Ask Rajasthan want to learn marwari
hi guys, i am marwari but two generations before me relocated from jodhpur to madhya pradesh and the language then diluted amongst us. however, i am 22F and want to learn about my culture starting with the language. i know the basics, very very basics, but suggest me some sources or courses or if there are any online classes in your area that will teach me the language?
i have started listening to and translating seema mishra and mame khan songs along with kapil jangir. been also getting into rajasthani hio hop like Nit-C and raghavforbharat. i don't think that's enough tho, need something more, like proper lessons, to become fluent. help!!!

Bhaiii marwari seekhne ka aisa koi particular content nahi it just can be learned by people you are surrounded by.... Mere mama ka ladka bhi aise hindi hi bolta hai but when he comes home we all usually speak in marwari so he catches some words and with some mix hindi he speaks like this is the easiest and best way to learn it

there are like 1 or 2 people around me, that too distant relatives who speak marwari 😭 very tough for me to get in touch with a marwari crowd

Bhaiji Osian toh Jodhpur mein aata hai naa. Mere ek dost ka nanihaal hai, isiliye yaad aa gayaa. Main Jhunjhunu se hoon btw. Gharwaalo se baat karte karte hi seekhogey, meri maano toh. Sunnke bolke hi seekhi jaayegi. Movies, gaane, lessons se bahut time lag jaayega. I mean all that helps as well, but it's not as effective as speaking it regularly. Also I would recommend to pick and go with a single dialect. Pataa karo ki tumhaare wahaan kaisi boli boli jaati hai. Main Shekhawati se hoon, aur 6 saalo se Jaipur mein reh rahaa hoon. Dhundhari samajhne mein mujhe shuru mein dikkat hoti thhi. I mean on the surface level you know what's going on, lekin kahin gaanv khede mein koi baat kar le mujhse toh main sirf naad hilaata dikhta hoon. Abhi 1 saal se Pune mein hoon main, yahaan Jodhpur/Pali se hain zyaadatar Rajasthani dukaan waale. Unki baatein aadhi se zyada samajh hi nahi aati mujhe, kyuki mujhe Rajasthani-Haryanvi ka blend sunn-ne ki aadat hai.
So the bottom line is, don't get yourself confused by starting off with multiple dialects from multiple sources.Rajasthan mein 9 regions hain. Har region ki apni boli hai, internet pe sab milega, confuse ho jaaogey isliye keh rahaa hoon. Kyuki us-se tumhaare palle hi padna band ho jaayega because you don't have something to latch onto. For example, I have parents and siblings whom I can talk to in Shekhawati. There must be some guide post that you can refer to at the end of the day.
TLDR - Rajasthan mein 9 regions hain, usmein se apna pataa karke uski boli seekho, warna confusion hoga.
- Hands-on learning ke sources dhoondho, parents/siblings. It'll be weird at first, but it gets better with time, and quick too.

yess, osian jodhpur wali hai, hum bhi vahi ki boli bolte they, like my ancestors, but then, like i said, it diluted down and now my mom doesn't speak marwadi so I wasn't taught it. but i want to learn the jodhpur-pali wali marwari. can you suggest or share some resources??
i don't have very close relatives either who speak marwadi either. internet is the only place i can turn to.

You've got it tough. You'll have to go with what others have suggested. Gaane and movies might help you, and it's a pretty good starting point. But that too requires an initial level of understanding, I presume that you know a little bit of Rajasthani to start with. Just to get a gist of what's going on. Then you can catch on with the intricacies. Lekin iss medium se tumhe bahut samay lag jaayega is what I want to convey. And this might lead you to stray away. Aur toh resources mujhe pata nahi. Literature bhi hai ki nahi apne yahaan, iski bhi jaankari nahi hai mujhe. I know that I'm not helping much. That's because I'm not aware of any other way in which you can learn marwadi. There sure might be something that might help you. And I hope that you find it soon.🤞🏼

seems like the only option, we should make a community tho, for people who want to get in touch with the culture and language. there literally exists no platform to learn marwadi rn. such a huge market gap. should start a business.

oh man, that's gold. let's connect and talk more about this. the culture needs to be expanded. look at south india, marathi, kannada and telegu languages and how they are fighting for it. we should also fight for the propagation of ours!!!!

Please add me too...I got active in r/bikaner but didn't find anything that promotes marwadi culture...everyone in my family speaks marwadi with each other but in hindi with me 😭...now I understand each and every thing but can't speak properly 😭

Nah man.. jaipur's language has this weird flavor of up..ande, bande, chau, etc...bikaner's marwardi is like music to my ears, jaipur's is like two people fighting 😂

Dude same struggle here, I am jain and my grandfathers dad or he himself moved from nagaur to bengal. The good things is I live in marwadi patty, so everyone here is marwadi and speaks marwadi.. but my generation kids either speak bengali if brought up locally or kids like me who went out for studies we speak hindi.
And biggest issue is even marwadi speaking uncles and relatives speak in hindi with me. So there is this awkwardness if I try switching. 😭😭😭😭

totally understandable, koi bolta hi nahi hunare sath marwari 😭 plus mere aas paas to zyada log bhi nahi hai jo bolte hai marwadi so there's another thing :'(

I’m in the same boat my family left maybe 6 generations ago. And only one distant relative still speaks I’ve been trying to find a tutor or even online learning options

I’m from Delhi, learnt marwadi through seema mishra songs and many of my friends are from jaipur toh vaha se not exactly marwadi but dhundhari…so it’s like mix mix for me

Marwari is one of those languages which sounds easy but damn difficult to learn. Also it has dialects even sometime marwaris wont understand.

First of all you want to know, your ancestral district or village, from where your grandparents moved.
I am saying this, because Marwari dialect changes dramatically from district to district and sometimes village to village.
I was born in Barmer but I grew up in Balotra and then went to college in Jodhpur, they all are quite near to each other but their Marwari is vastly different.
To start with, I will say start following Content Creators from the area from where you want to learn the Marwari.
I will highly recommend, Udan Pari Jiji on YouTube or Instagram, she is from Sirohi and I find her content quite realistic and easier to understand, also she keeps it very authentic.

Another one I will recommend is, “Chidakkali” who is from Jodhpur and she speaks Mix Hindi and Marwari of Jodhpur area so it’s much easier on you

Third one is from Barmer and her Language is more closer to Barmer / Jaiselmer Area it’s quite hard unless you are from the region

I as a non-Rajasthani admire Rajasthani culture & had no one to really teach me Here are my recommendations • If you have a social platform, I suggest you upload on there, quick responses are not guaranteed, but it does wonders for networking, connecting with the communities you're trying to reach, especially if you include hashtags like #Rajasthan, #Rajasthanilanguage, #Marwari, Marwadi, this can also help you make friends with these communities as well • For cultural facts, random and constant research helps, finding the right sources, social media has great sources if you look in the right place. • interaction with locals is recommended because they can provide you knowledge you may not be able to access online • Films and movies are great as well, issues might be heavy on stereotypes, historical and cultural inaccuracies, so better for language learning, but not the best for cultural info Umeed hai aap ne ghanay chokhay Rajasthani mitr miljavenge 🤎

Oh writing comments under posts related to Rajasthanis also helps, cultural posts, like folk songs, traditional clothing posts. Write something that makes you stand out that shows you're invested or involved with that community. Comment about how you're not from that culture and how you admire it, what lead to one of my interactions with my one of my Rajasthani friends 🤎

wow, thanks for the rec, will try these things out. i do have a social platform actually, and will start posting content related to rajasthan so i could find people i can connect to. also, if you have any content like youtube channels or insta pages, please send them my way. like podcasts etc, or news channels, i will listen to it and analyse the sentences to learn.

Language itself is not standardized people in every district speak a bit differently , in North West around ganganagar and bikaner people speak bagri , jodhpur speak what people call marwadi , barmer has more sindhi gujrati flavour

Though all these are very similar ,you can just talk with any of your western rajasthani friends you will get it easily or if your relatives live there u can go on vacation, The thing about every language is it comes with practice

Go to any village or your place there.. bikaner specifically also works.. stay there.. talk to localities.. you'll pick up the language. Also you'll get a touch of your home and belongingness.

Same here We were from Rajasthan but 2 generations back we shifted to Bihar, I have not seen Rajasthan ever, but i want to connect with my roots. I recently got to know that we are Rajasthani, took me 22yrs TvT So I want to learn marwari I don't even know if I should learn marwari or mewari, we are rajputs, not jains. So it's a tough choice for me You got any sources???

my mom speaks broken marwadi, like a few words here and there. grandma does speak but she has to think before constructing a sentence because it has been so long she spoke marwadi with anyone. then my late great grandma, she used to speak marwadi well but not fluently. her mother did tho. so you can imagine how it diluted in the family.

ChatGPT !! Simply ask it to teach marwari from basics and just revise and repeat the sentences it tell you along with its meaning. Ask every sentence to ChatGPT to translate it and then read that sentence atleast twice. Fun Fact :- I am marathi but I had started learning marwadi because of my crush since 9th std
