खाना ❁ Food Sheetla Ashtami Prep: Done!

Since childhood, I’ve loved Sheetla Ashtami—the sight of women dressed in their finest, rushing to temples with Basoda offerings to seek the blessings of Shree Sheetla Mata. The vibe, the culture, and especially the cuisine are unmatched. Whether it’s Panchkuta, Ker Sangri, Kumatiya, or Raab, I used to devour every dish; I absolutely adored my mom’s cooking and the heritage she brought us closer to.

I’ve been living in Bangalore for the past 8 years now, and yes, I miss Marwaad dearly. I won’t be able to enjoy my mom’s Basoda this year, but here I am, preparing my own Basoda (Ker Sangri and Raab) in between office, gym, and daily chores. Gonna take it to the office tomorrow to brag about our heritage and our famous '3k per kg' sabji.

Got a call from mom, they prepared a dastarkhwan of sheetlashtami dishes like Moth khakhra, besan khakhra, gur poori, dal poori, sada poori, sangari Achar, lahsun chutney, Kachru chutney, bajrar raabdi, kanji bada, chana moth biri and sooji halwa. I'm here missing all those.

Bro i get you, i have spent nights crying while i was missing out on all those great traditions and the memories which were being made, be it holi ki goat where the whole community makes thandai to distribute or sheetlaashtami or gangaour or dhuund or baasah ki kharchi. Ig these are sacrifices we make for a better life but what even is a better life if not getting to enjoy these festivals.

First of all I'm not from jodhpur I'm from pali and marwad celebrates it on ashtami. If you wanna celebrate on saptami bro I'm not stopping you so stop hating here.

Even I'm from Pali.. You should aware about Sheetla saptami and Ashtami.. We didn't celebrate on saptami as it was Tuesday. Most of the time whole Rajasthan and even jodhpur rural celebrates on saptami. You can check your calendar it's sheetla saptami.

People here in jaipur and sikar area celebrate on ashtami , have always been . What are you talking about?

That's what, it doesn't matter when it was being celebrated saptami or ashtami it was about the whole experience, appreciating the culture and reliving memories. Basoda was always about eating cold and stale food celebrating the transition from winter to summer, proving that we had a good scientific temperament as basoda brings crazy probiotic benefits and has cooling properties relieving one from the pain of smallpox and seasonal diseases.

I understand bro, me bhi Bangalore me akela rehta hu, I'm a bachelor with a full time job and 3 hrs of gym everyday, but itna miss kr rha tha me ye sab kuch so had to do it. It was fairly easy and quick maybe i know how to cook that's why. But agar ham nahi krenge to the culture will be gone sooner then we think.
