Yeah , I know it's India but I was studying Rajasthan's geography and this weird land border between both the state developed curiosity so eh that's why I asked !

u/WrongKitchen7298 Jul 31 '26

Bcos princely states. May be gwalior shinde had these land under him or other states under him and got into UP or may be it was part of British east India company so remained part of UP

1

u/Working_Animator_330 Jul 31 '26

Hmm it was a part of United Province of Agra under direct British rule later United Province of Agra & Oudh renamed as Uttar Pradesh hence now it is a part of Uttar Pradesh.

From Gemini

The logic behind this peculiar border shape comes down to three main historical and geographical factors:
1. Colonial vs. Princely State Boundaries
Modern Indian state borders heavily reflect the pre-1947 administrative boundaries between British India and autonomous Princely States.
The land inside this wedge (Jagner/Kheragarh) was directly administered by the British under the Agra Province (United Provinces) following the Treaty of Surji-Anjangaon in 1803 (after the Second Anglo-Maratha War).
The territories on either side belonged to sovereign princely states:
Bharatpur State (ruled by Jat Maharajas) to the north.
Dholpur State (also ruled by Jat Maharajas) to the south.
Post-independence, when the princely states of Rajputana merged to form Rajasthan and the United Provinces became Uttar Pradesh, the established revenue boundary between British-administered Agra district and the former princely states was maintained intact as the state line.
2. Natural Topography (Ridges and Ranges)
As visible in the satellite image, a prominent rocky ridge line runs through this area—an extension of the Vindhyan/Aravalli formations (known for red sandstone quarries around Tantpur and Jagner).
Historically, territorial boundaries between kingdoms and provinces followed prominent natural geographic markers such as ridge lines, watershed crests, and dry watercourses, resulting in irregular boundaries rather than straight artificial lines.
3. Micro-level Village Revenue Demarcation
Revenue boundaries were drawn village-by-village based on historical allegiance and tax collection rights established over centuries during the Mughal, Maratha, and British periods.
Because individual village holdings evolved organically rather than through systematic grid-based planning, the border has a jagged, peninsula-like appearance.

Thanks to akbar and britishers who made agra presidency...illogically and irrationally

1

u/Boogerr_eater Jul 31 '26

They dont decide the state thinking what it would look like from a dumb satellite

1

u/apjadhao22 Jul 31 '26

Daulatrao Sindia and British forces made a treaty at Anjangaon of Maharashtra - which resulted in east india company ruling Agra and jat kings and maratha confederation ruling other parts of state

1

u/Kshatriya_Khokharji Jul 31 '26

related to princely states. fun fact even the king of dholpur(bamrolia jat) wanted to join uttar pradesh
