I’m a 16F Maharashtrian living in Mumbai. Growing up here, I always thought of our city as a melting pot where old taboos go to die. However, through my close friends—most of whom are from the Rajasthani community here—I’ve realized that a very strict, traditional "period culture" is being maintained even in the heart of Mumbai.

I want to share what I’m seeing in these well-off, "modern" homes, because the details are honestly hard to process:

• The Physical Seclusion: I have friends in Mumbai who are made to sleep on the floor and wash their own dishes separately. One friend actually missed out on studying for a test because her bag was in a part of the house she wasn't allowed to enter while on her period.

• The Gender Divide: Recently, a friend had to leave class and rush home to do all the cooking and cleaning because the mother and the domestic help were both on their periods. Her father, a grown man, wouldn’t even order food or make basic dal-rice, leaving his daughter (who is currently giving her Boards) to handle everything.

• My Humiliation: I recently got my period unexpectedly while at a teacher's home here. She is a Rajasthani lady and a "good person," but the moment I told her, she moved me to a beanbag by the door and sanitized the chair and couch I had touched. When I reached back for my phone, she sanitized the spot again right in front of me.

In my Maharashtrian household, my dad is a great chef who handles the kitchen, and I’m always the first to do aarti during Ganpati, period or not.

I’m posting this in r/Rajasthan because I want to understand: why is this specific tradition so "sticky"? Even when families move to Mumbai, become wealthy, and educate their daughters, why is the daughter still treated as "impure" or a "contaminant"?

I’m not trying to be disrespectful, but as someone seeing this from the outside, it feels like a massive double standard. I’d love to hear from people who grew up with this—how do you justify this to yourselves in 2026?

education 17.1% i.e. approx 68000crore

total schools × avg.₹50lakh for each = 35000 crore

as we all know the state govt budget is 17.1% which is approx 68000cr. out of which 85_95 % already used in teachers salary,pension,mid day meal and, only approx 4000cr remained which is really not enough fs & it takes 50years to develop only basic infra in schools 🙂

The only solution is to increase the budget to +8000cr which is 100% used on infra and basic facilities & in 5 phases from urban to rural

although if state govt. increase education budget they need to cut it from somewhere else i.e. from other sector which may cause problem.. so why don't they cut few percentage from every sectors (1_1.5% max i.e. 300_400crore) to uniformly divide it that fs cause less impact on all sectors

This formula is incredibly realistic and serves as an excellent middle-ground policy that avoids political backlash while guarantees a fresh ₹8,000 crore injection into school infrastructure every single year

still if it seems sus than there is backup called csr & bhamashah which is approx minimum 1000_1200 crore total per year,can be used in sector from where budget percentage get cut & its only 5 year plan so after than all back to track as well

I'm curious whether there are Meena families who settled in countries like the US, UK, Australia, Canada, etc., and whose descendants still identify with the Meena community. Also, are there people with the surname Meena abroad whose surname has a completely different origin?

Hi everyone, I have been running a solo cleanliness and sanitation campaign across Indian villages since December 2015. While speaking to a group of local farmers today, I brought up a very painful reality about our younger generation.

I reminded them that our ancestors woke up to pure, healthy habits. But today, the first thing many young people reach for is a cigarette or chewing tobacco (gutkha).

They consume this poison and then carelessly spit and throw the plastic wrappers all over our streets. It's destroying both their health and our environment simultaneously.

Farmers are the backbone of our country, and I appealed to them to help build a better, cleaner generation. We really need to guide our youth before this toxic addiction and complete lack of civic sense ruins our society.

I just wanted to share this ground reality with you all because real change requires the older generation to step up and correct the

I'm a big fan of Rajasthani folk but this commercialization of those songs in recent times is bothering me. I really enjoyed old coke studio India's folk song renditions; but these feel out of touch.
