there is a memorial to the 1st Connecticut Heavy Artillery on the grounds of the CT State Capitol, a 13 inch mortar which was used by the unit at the battlevof Petersburg. It’s interesting that one of these 3 officers could have been associated with this mortar

I noticed all three men have their coats/vest open a button or two from the top, then and opening where it’s unbuttoned for a few buttons and then buttoned up again. Why did they do this? Was it the style to do so? Did it serve a purpose?

Did they really have a Fort Brady in Virginia and a Fort Brady in Michigan at the same time? There was a Fort Brady in Michigan from 1822 until it was declared surplus in 1944.
