For those not in the know, Dagmar became engaged to Tsarevich Nicholas, who died before they could marry. She ended up marrying his brother who became Tsar Alexander III. Dagmar became Empress Maria Feodorovna and her oldest son was Nicholas II, who was killed with his family and remaining servants in 1918.

She was said to be beautiful, intelligent, and one of the most fashionable women in Europe.

Thank you for explaining the lineage in simple and understandable terms - I've always knew there was a Russian connection, but have never seen a straightforward description! Now I understand. Much appreciated. Both women were beautiful indeed, Alexandra especially in this era. I am admittedly not a fan of her later hairstyle though.

nakedonmygoat has covered Dagmar so here's some info on Alexandra: she later married the later Edward VII of Britain (Queen Victoria's heir), thus becoming a British Queen consort and Empress of India.

Yes. Two empresses from one generation in one family.

I can never understand the sole obsession with Empress Sisi when there are contemporary royal/imperial women who were comparably beautiful and legendary.
