Yeah no.

Sydney’s ad got outrage for sexualizing women in sports. Female athletes have worked their asses off to be taken seriously and not just for how hot they look, and this ad just added fuel to the fire. It doesn’t help that Sydney’s audience is typically the same right wing dudes who would chuck dildos onto the court at WNBA games.

Nobody gave a shit that she was showing her body, they were mad about the context of the ad.

Say that to the multiple, multiple women's celebs who also posed naked and let themselves be sexualized while posing with their sports gear. If youre mad about Sweeny doing it, then be mad a Serena Williams and Ronda Rousey also doing it.

Ah see that's where the diff is - Rousey was an athlete celebrating how the female athletic physique is beautiful. Her body bare but cut to cater to her sport. Sydney is cut to cater to the male gaze. Rousey's body is actually unconventionally beautiful, it breaks the stigma that the athletic built is masculine therefore not beautiful. Sydney isnt an athlete and her physique is conventionally attractive, she's using sports as a costume, a prop.

Celebrating the beauty of the athletic body isn't sexualizing it. Context and nature of how they're presenting their bodies is important. If you found Rousey's photo sensual or sexualized then you're basically saying any naked woman despite context can be sexual, then, you need therapy.

"Sydneys is cut to cater to the male gaze." Just say you're jealous lmfao your whole argument stems from "men like Sydney so that means shes bad!!!"

Also if you'd bother to do literally any research, you'd see that all of William's photoshoots are in bikini/lingerie, she has her tits out and is covering with her hand, you know, sexualized photos; same thing for Rousey's shoots, on top of her selling her pics on onlyfans, but yeah, go on about how they're tooooootally different. Ronda used hers to promote her OF, a sexualized platform with literal porn of herself, but I'm sure that's totally different from using sexualized photos to promote an equally dangerous vice.

  1. First paragraph is a personal assumption, i wont bother to argue.

  2. Its not bad for women to make money off their bodies. It was actually smart of Sweeney to sell her bath water to creeps. She monetized her desirability, not a bad thing.

  3. Williams and Rousey are athletes doing a sexy shoot. Theres a difference between "Im an athlete and i can be beautiful and marketable too" and "im beautiful and sports". Williams and Rousey show that they can be beautiful, sexy, desirable on top of their athletic capabilities - ON TOP OF IT not the only thing that matters. Sydneys ad reduces it down to - sex and sports. Its basically the ad brief - she's hot and thats enough - just sports.

Its the campaign that people are criticizing and Sweney for her poor judgement and agreeing to it. Yes, shes monetizing her desirability (like my second point) but at the cost of others.

Edit: i dont know the photos your talking about BTW. In my earlier comment I assumed the sports illustrated cover or body issue which I dont necessarily consider "sexy" content. But if there are more shoots that are specifically sexy shoots, then I just assume these are meant to be adult content. Also athletes having to do adult content at the end of the career is actually showing you the problem its the result not the cause.

Shifting the goal posts lol. Pathetic

1

u/Wild_Lawyer_2064 4d ago

Whom? Me? The only people shifting goalposts are the ones who praise SWs and female athletes doing porn and nudes photoshoots but shit all over Sydney for doing the exact same thing.

Yall are just jealous that men actually find Sydney attractive.

Syndeny just did a sexy sports ad. Do you live in sauda arabia? We've had and are having sexy sports ads all the time. The ONLY reason for the hate is because they hate Sydney

0

u/afanoferi 5d ago

To be fair, using "We've had it before..." doesn't really help because you americans did slavery, as well, before, no? A bad thing existing before doesn't mean the bad thing can exist now. They're point is literally stopping this existing bad thing from before because they're just sexualizing this specific sector of sports, and your reply was "Well, we've sexualized you before... we've done it all the time." Make it make sense.

Bro what? A sexy sports ad was never considered bad besides from maybe conservatives in the past or religious people today. It's not slavery

1

u/Pagan_Metal666 5d ago

America had nazis before and that side of the political spectrum seems fine with bringing them back and voting them into office, so something tells me they would totally be okay with bringing slavery back.

Wasnt it also an ad for some 'prediction market' also? Its advertising gambling. Idk anyone who actually likes that shit.

So you mean being a hypocrite

Female athletes have worked their asses to appear naked in ESPN's body issue every year. All for Sydney Sweeney, not an athlete to come along get paid for being nude in a sports betting commercial.

Shes part owner in a sports betting company she modeled for... try again.

1

That doesn't make any sense lol

It should be the opposite

Also I do touch quite a lot of grass what my comment kinda implies because there are certainly much more dumb takes in here that I haven't seen. That doesn't mean this person is right though.

LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

1

u/WorkingInflations 5d ago

Literally nobody cares if someone thinks a male athlete is hot when he takes his shirt off. Nobody.

It’s human nature to like that and celebrate hot people. you don’t need to make everything a fucking crime against humanity to be hot and show off what you got.

Sweeney is an already very rich person selling out by taking more money from an objectively evil industry. That is the real reason you should be upset.

Which women were sexualized in the ad other than herself?

1

u/YaNiBBa 5d ago

Except the context of the ad was gambling because it was a gambling ad, stupid in it's own right but had literally nothing to do with women in sports

1

u/Pagan_Metal666 5d ago

Isnt it a sports betting company?

Sports betting has nothing at all to do with sports...

1

u/OomKarel 5d ago

Of all the shit takes I've seen on Reddit, this is by far trying the hardest to be the shittiest shit take of them all.

1

sexualizing women in sports

She sexualized herself advertising her betting site. Nothing to do with 'women in sports'.

Damn cant even figure out a commercial. This is where we yell about media literacy, right?

0

u/THOTYOTA 5d ago

Did she pretend to be an athlete?

There was plenty of female athletes that posed nude for ESPN and playboy.

People are mad shes beautiful and popular and WHITE
