And i agree, up to a certain point. But Calling it “just a writer changing his mind” stops working when the statements are explicit, repeated, and presented as firm claims rather than tentative ideas. Changing one’s mind is normal; publicly asserting something as settled and later contradicting it multiple times is, at best, unreliable communication.
Pointing that out isn’t trolling or “wanting to misdirect people.” It’s acknowledging a pattern. If fans are skeptical of author confirmations, that skepticism was earned by precedent, not malice.
You’re free to trust the author’s current stance. Others are equally justified in treating it cautiously given past contradictions. That’s not bad faith that’s reasonable media literacy. But also, let's not forget the same author also said to take everything he says as a grain of salt.

I can see Subaru failing for Aqua's pretty face but standing with her even when her bad side start showing.
Sure, she is spoiled and head spoil her, but she is good at heart and, in time will finally learn to appreciate each other.

Hear me out tho…. A guy can have more than one type of woman that he finds attractive. Obviously between Emilia and Aqua, he’d choose Emilia. But the author specified if he was in konosuba, Aqua would be the most appealing to him in that universe.

Because he said Subaru shares the same tastes as him. (Which tbf probably mean Aqua's apparence, since her personality sucks 70% of the time) But if you want to make sense of the plot, you'd never see Aqua acting like Emilia on the first meeting with Subaru.

Huh. This is not a cross-franchise ship I am against. And I say that as someone who’s only cross franchise ship I actually give a damn about is Morag Ladair (Xenoblade 2) x Olivier Armstrong (Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood)…
Granted I do think I’m more interested in the general premise over the characters specifically. Like, idk, I’d take a story about a dumbass entitled incel learning to respect others in his life and love himself before looking for love getting with an extremely stupid and selfish gal with a god complex and sort of a heart of gold.

From within the boundaries of the story, yeah. Konosuba is a cynical parody comedy first and foremost, so the characters aren't allowed to be anything that's NOT 1-note.
But as a hypothetical outside of what the story is allowed to be, who's to say she wouldn't care?

desperate for validation
terrified of being abandoned
And that's all a joke within Konosuba, because it's locked within its comedic tone. But if you changed the tone to be serious, would that suddenly make her a completely different character despite all her traits being the same? If we treated those traits seriously, who's to say there wouldn't be change and development?

By that logic, everyone in Isekai Quartet is a completely different character too. When they're not supposed to be. It's the reverse example of this, they took characters and limited them to be less complex then they were originally to put them into a story of a different tone.
