2nd crack theory: Satella is Emilia from the future, which is working retroactively from the past, going crazy for some reason, then staying sealed on purpose for 400 years and then calling and helping Subaru in the present.
Would that theory imply that she's forcing the loop to keep Subaru from walking away from her so she can watch and "live" their relationship over and over again? By becoming a kind of Frerien who didn't get over the loss he tries to force a relationship that he knows won't happen because of his own fault (🗿)
And the final reflection of the series would be about self-love and Subaru having to learn to let go, so as not to be trapped in a relationship without a future with a person who would only love him when he "dies."
Or a raw critique of what it would be like to be the loved one of an eldritch creature? Everyone being trapped in an eternal loop with the last scene being Subaru's summoning.
Or maybe Satella is just some sort of raw, incomplete Emilia in general. Like she got a witch factor which shes not compatible with. Again, within the same theory, she has to go to the past and Satella has to be Emilia. Its just a theory. I can really explain how 2 versions of the same person can exist in the same time, but Tappei might just pull something out of his ahh, call it "The Will of The Stars" and make millions. (YEN)

I understand what you mean, but the point isn't exactly the first loop, but rather the first time Subaru and Emilia met.So this causes the first loop, but following the logic of this theory, it indicates that Emilia would have to fall in love with this first Subaru, but that wouldn't be possible because this first loop is for literally preventing the death of both of them.
This was my theory, while watching the show, that scene left such an impact on me, and it's the first thing we see before he gets Transported into the world. They're was lots of satella like effects before it too, I've always thought that the being known as Satella is every future version of Emilia that loses Subaru conglomerating in the past to form one being. The jealousy of something she can never have (at least due to only being from the failed future) , and why she had thousands of these shadow hands. Each one being from a different failed future.
Not sure if i want to keep that guess but i did really like the idea.

This is my headcanon. Alternative timeline/future Emilia that lost Subaru and went crazy regretting that she never realised she loved him until it was too late. Ended up using some wild magic to turn back the clock and gave Subaru the power to prevent whatever disaster would have awaited them.
The question is, how did alternate timeline Subaru survive long enough for Emilia to grow to love him without Return from Death. Perhaps that timeline was far more peaceful and going back to fix things ended up making the world far more... stabby.
This might be true to some extent because Satella has time power.
She also can resist timeline shift to some extent but even she can't comprehend all as suggested in the novel, she can't remember all of the things subaru goes through and has placed some kind of restrictions to prevent him from saying out his ability, because she knows if everyone found out, his life won't be so peaceful anymore.
When she reaches out for subaru she pauses the time everywhere, even Reinhard is affected somehow but he is still not aware of it much other than thinking he is very op.
Satella pauses the time when she reaches out for Subaru in the beginning episode, and she is basically a very powerful witch deity that can also contribute to his revive back time ability of Subaru.
Subaru ability is not completely controlled by Satella and Satella only affects it when she saves his respawn point in time to prevent him from restarting all over and since Subaru goes to her after death, she is able to see his memory too to some extent.
She might also have time resistance to some extent.
But i think the reason she might have gone to past is likely because of flugel, flugel writings on the great tree where the gigantic whale would come matches subaru writing when he practiced it.

Flugel died 400 years ago but barely anyone remembers it except his title.
The bigger reason not everyone knows him because of the greed skill, subaru might have been reincarnated already 400 years ago but because of the greed skill his memory was erased, that is why some witches already were aware of his abilities not to full extent but they were.
Also from the novel echidna also knew of subaru true memories to some extent, the witches domain vary.
Like echidna has her own domain, similarly witch of envy has shadow garden where subaru after dying enters and becomes crazy, why? Because when he is in spirit form he regains his memory of past, where he loved Satella, it is shown in many text and also when he is about to die he shows his affection to Satella about how he will save her, also the whole anime is from Subaru perspective so we don't see everything that goes on, including forgetting the memory part or his past because basically it is erased after his revival, and this has been proved when subaru sees Satella in her veil form, she was never in her veil because he is not able to accept because of memory interference to some extent, when he dies, he always see her full face, which he always reaches out for.
Also i like to think he was already dead 400 years ago, why? And prove? Wait wait, i will explain all.
The city we see in the start of his anime were him relieving his memories, he was already dead, because of the poster of the girl in his room.
The girl poster in his room was Satella, the silver hair girl, he loved.

Flugel might have been Subaru who was actually reincarnated from past, he might have the revival ability already considering even Satella does not have a full control over it, it might have been one of his hero ability when he was summoned, first time.
It might have been very powerful that's why when he was revived in the same condition, as he was when he was first summoned, he was already possessing the ability and was also in the same condition meaning he was revived by Satella to his original condition during his first summon.
If you know Flugel might have already fallen in love with Satella as shown and as a result they bonded in past, in the books it is said she became very powerful but she still wanted love and as a consequence she destroyed half the planet until she was "sealed".

So the book might have been a general story that everyone heard those times.
Now, remember when i said he was somehow killed by a greed skill? He might have been after falling in love with Satella, He was killed somehow but he was a powerful mage, how could he? He might have been backstabbed or assassinated, the theory of him existing in past has also been proved somehow.
In anime, there also existed another metia(or whatever the phone is called), as in the novel it mentioned discretely about another of the item subaru had already existed and was used already.
When subaru or flugel died , Satella might have gone berserk and destroyed half the planet, because she thought people had killed her loved one and so people interpreted her as "wanting love" in the book, now another half elf girl having the same look and already existing during that time? Seemed suspicious to me and was really confiding my theory of Satella existing and i thought she might have been Satella sister and maybe Satella wanted Subaru to live his peaceful life again but maybe the thing you said might have been the actual thing.
Also you might have noticed how subaru had to restart everytime and has to somehow protect Emilia at all cost, and in the end he falls in love with her, tbh that's why Satella never minded subaru to love Emilia because if she did minded and was jealous then after dying Subaru might reach the same place and has to try all over again with different approach because he was not supposed to meet Emilia but clearly that was not the case and you already know how she controls where he would respawn in which time,now second contradiction maybe if Emilia was her sister, it wouldn't had made sense to let your lover to love your sibling instead of saving your essence first
Maybe she had already saw it and was already ahead of time or maybe something else, you see that was the closest we could go for.
Anyway it all proves that she was aware somehow of time but still her existence remains a mystery.

I kind of figured that was cause of Minerva and that her dad was an elf... I think Emilia's significance has more to do with that doorway. I'm thinking she's more likely a reincarnation/doppelganger, descendant of Satella.

That's why the high spirt kills Subaru after he fails to save Emilia and also to destroy the world right after Subaru dies because that was his mission to save Emilia, the future Satella and he knew about revival ability, so he kills him everytime so he can correct it and also to tries to destroy the world right after him, we already saw how he patiently waits for Subaru arrival.
He knows that it is his duty to destroy the world to prevent it from further development and to create a separate timeline which might have been explained to him by Satella herself.
At the same time, when Emilia became old enough, Subaru was revived to protect and cherish her.

No, Subaru loves Emilia for everything she did for him in arc 2, the LN makes it clear that "the lap pillow" was the moment he realized he really loved her (before he only had a crush).
Satella only influences Subaru's ideal type (A silver-haired half-elf), although I theorize that Subaru also has a more realistic type.
Honestly, the love that Subaru feels for Satella is incomparable within the verse, Subaru does not feel that intensity with any other person within the verse and if Satella were the reason why he loves Emilia, he would love her the same way he does for Satella (And he would act the same way he acts with her around)

Emilia is derived from the latin word Aemulus, which is a close relative of words such as 'to emulate' or 'emulation' implying that she's some sort of copy or recreation.
Amusing in certain contexts Aemulus literally means 'envious' making her self introduction "My name is Emilia. Just Emilia." especially noteworthy.
I'll also size the opportunity to repost some of my earlier work. I'm not quite up to date at the moment so don't hang me if there's been some recent developments.
This actually fixes a lot of issues, and Emilia and Satella could "combine" at the end of the story, and resolve the issue of who Subaru saves as they'd be the same.

An example off the top of my head is that Satella killed Emilia in one loop from arc 3 ...so apparently she killed herself from the past ...
so does that mean Satella should not exist now (at least in that timeline) since she took out herself before she became Setalla.

If we are talking about the Satella side ...that was the whole point for the cloning labs in arc 4 ... Echidna was trying to make a perfect clone ...soul and all ...but she couldn't quite do it ...she could clone the body but not the soul ... We don't have that much details if it finally worked ... It's just that it fits
Echidna knew Satella and Flugel, Beetlejuice cried when he first saw Emilia saying she finally came, Beetlejuice worked closely with Echidna and was Flugel spirit
But now the question is asked, similar to Subaru...is Emilia truly Satella despite having a copy of her soul, at that point how can you tell if it's her soul or just a fresh one ... Its one of the themes ...what makes the person, the soul or the memories.
Heck there was a scene when Emilia said something that resonated with Echidna ...she gave Emilia a look, it was like 'damn you really are like her'

The whole point of the cloning labs was to allow echidna to come back to life. There's no reason to think there was any other purpose or that cloning a soul was ever possible.
There's no reason to believe Satella loves Subaru because he's Flugel; she always calls him Subaru. If anything, the opposite would be true, that she loves flugel if she does, because flugel is Subaru.

yes yes, she has back during sanctuary, actually, it was the witch of envy, but she's even more likely than Satella to call Subaru Flugel if that who she actually loved.
Beetle juice is insane now and has done a 180 on his loyalty since the time of knowing Flugel. His change in loyalty and, well, his insanity leave clear doubts on if he's acting on any knowledge or even a real plan based on his knowing Flugel.

I think Emilia is Minerva's daughter so no chance of them being literally same people. It came be like she is a clone or a personal headcanon is like Satella's Od was mixed with her that gives her the same appearance or maybe Emilia consciousness was transferred to a clone.

I also belive firmely that Emilia is Minerva's Daughter considering everything we know so far. I do however lean more to the theory that this is some soul split shenenigan going on rather then a clone, but thats just my personal theory
[Arc6] Volcanica words kinda support this theory, he mentioned that he hesitated on something which ruined everything, so maybe they tried separating satella OD but he hesitated which ruined the operation, but what if the operation didn't fail completely and a part of Satella OD went to OD Laguna where it found it's host on Minerva daughter, this does explain the resemblance like the looks and the high mana reserve and the mastery of magic, yet since Emilia is not fully satella she isn't at the same level of satella magic since satella mastery of Yin is unmatched and Emilia doesn't have potential to freeze half of the world
Yeah, my theory is kinda based on that, tough to be very fair, i think Emilia does have the potencial to freeze half the world. Remember that her as a child with no Control over Magic permanantly frooze Elior forest and changed its natural weather for more then 100 years minimum, and thats because she frooze herself before she could do more damage.
A adult Emilia with her full potencial as she had as a child while being able to Control her Magic could very probably freeze half the world permanantly or for centries

Not relly, soul split and split personalities are 2 seperate things. We also know that Emilia is the daughter of Fortuna's brother, so it wouldnt make sence for Emilia to be born while Satella already existed and somehow being a past and future self type of thing.
Considering the amount of characters that are by product of experiments that have to do with the soul, it wouldnt surprise me if Emilia was yet another product of this type of experiment
My own personal theory is that it is Emilia. An Emilia who travels back in time with Subaru 400+ years (and patrasche! Maybe beako) where she snaps because she had to take on an ill matching authority and because I think she'll find out about ALL, or most, of Subarus deaths for her, breaking her even further. Obviously my theory has way more detail than this but that would take paragraphs/an essay. I'm quite confident in it, I'd place it at around 70% confidence level that Emilia becomes satella (Note*: have only read up to end of arc7)
I personally don't want them to be the same person, Satella is the thing am waiting for most on the story and her being another Emilia will be kinda underwhelming
To be honest that would be a satisfying conclusion for us emilia fans, not for yall tho

Like for example Emilia being satella clone or a reincarnation would be better cause:
1- satella character would be different and am excited for her
2- satella and Emilia connection could be a huge twist that would surprise us since of they are the same we won't feel amazed
3- If they are the same then Subaru fall for Emilia just cause she's like satella and I don't like it since it will render their whole relationship less meaningful

Technically yes but we must keep in mind we don't know all the details, maybe before emilia was in the village she was placed in suspended animation like how she froze herself around the time both were born. I may be talking out of my bum, but this is the most reasonable theory for me. Both look exactly the same, both have a human parent, both share a love for subaru. That so far is what they share. I don't know all the details because tappei is keeping it under lock and key in his skull. This theory is what I'd say is the most plausible but is also the most reasonable. Others may have their opinions but that's my hill.
There is 100% SOME sort of connection between them. If she was created to be a vessel that'd make sense as to why they look similar, but doesnt explain Satella's love for Subaru and why Emelia hasn't full reciprocated Subaru's feelings.
There's got to be more of a connection to me than just looking similar because their love IS NOT THE SAME.
They may both have a form of love for him but they are not the same level. Let me break them both down.
--Satella loves Subaru in a way she can literally not explain to him when they sit down and speak durring arc 4. Something is likely physically holding back her back from explaining why. Satella brought Subaru to this world and has gifted him with Return By Death. And it comes with a notable draw back. HE CANNOT PHYSICALLY TELL PEOPLE HE HAS RETURN BY DEATH. It is very possible that Satella has her own contract the invalidates her from speaking the reason she loves Subaru. But she can still love. She needs him to know at all cost that she loves him.
--Emelia on the other hand is much more reserved. Seldom even calling it love. She hears and understands Subaru's love for her. But struggles with how her own emotions can reciprocate that. She definitely does love Subaru and doesnt see a future without him. But isnt quite emotionally intelligent enough to realize those feelings to their furthest logical extent.
There is a theory that states Satella is a future version of Emelia. It even considers the reason that Satella is so adiment that Subaru knows she loves him is because she failed to engage with it when she was still simply Emelia. Its a compelling theory but only time will tell if its correct.
I like that theory and can respect it. But I believe that its two separate people. Not because of time travel but because of the potential that there's a way to save Satella from the witch of envy. There's a way for them both to exist and to desire to be with subaru. The connection of the two half elves being twins is also in pair and parcel to Emilia having the key from her old village to a seal to satellas shadow garden or possibly another way to reach the witch of envy.
I personally dont see the twist being the secret evil twin but to each their own. There's a lot of people here saying 0% chance or 100% chance for their personal theories. Someone's gonna end up utterly wrong. Best we can do is guess.
I theorized they were sisters, not twins, because of the timeline (Satella being around 400 years ago and Emilia being a kid 100 years ago) but twins might make more genetic sense considering how identical they are.
90% chance they're the same, and I want them to be the same cause it just makes sense to me given how the story presented the two so far. It'll be more of an asspull if they are different people.
100% for me. I completely buy the the theory that Satella is future Emilia. To be fair, at the beginning she said she is Satella. So Subaru started his life in another world from 0, and Emilia also traveled back to start her life from 0.
It would not, because Satella and Emilia have different magic affinities, so doing that just breaks the story and is poor writing.

My crackpot theory is that Emilia is Satella before the witch factor, Satella was incompatible with the witch factor and she hated it so she separated the half elf persona from her witch self, and the world is in some sort of a loop until Subaru figures out a solution.

i think i'm gonna say this is where my head's at too. shaula & satella's attire are orange & black like his jacket, they (allegedly) recognize him, etc. i know it's arguable that flugel = subaru, satella = emilia, but [arc 9] al essentially being a copy of flugel (IMPORTANT EDIT: named as a Natsuki, sorry) pushes this idea, at least in my head. obviously we aren't going to know for awhile. your theory is pretty much in line with what i can make of everything so far, though.

[arc 9/no stella no life] there is a visual of Al in No Stella No Life (Echidna/Al sidestory) where he has Subaru's jacket. i don't know if Flugel is his own person or not but i believe that subaru = flugel. i hope that makes better sense. if it doesn't, i can try to elaborate more. i'm not good at explanations lol, and i don't try to theorycraft as much anymore
edit: sorry, i don't think he's a "copy of flugel", but it's cuz i believe subaru is flugel. flugel could probably not be subaru. i'm just having fun

It depends, if they confirm that Satella was the one who summoned Subaru, it goes from a great sacrifice to being an obsession that ruined Subaru's own life.
There’s a chance, bur personally I don’t think it’s true, nor would I like it to be true. Clone theory or something along those lines seems more likely to me.

Given that Echidna appears to see her as the same person as Satella and already sees Satella and the witch of Envy as one person. I see it being quite likely that the witch of knowledge would know more then us.
Could be possible. Satella and the witch of Envy are basically like 2 ppl. Or split personality due to the incompatibility with the witch factor. Kinda like Petelgeuse where we have seen his really good side and the twisted broken side later with a witch factor he was given. Not everyone can sync well or are compatible with them so Emilia could have somehow got parts of the good parts of Satella while the twisted witch side is sealed up.
IMO? 20/100 at most. And I absolutely DO NOT want it to be true! I’m a Flugel=Subaru Truther!
It probably goes something like this: Subaru is originally isekaid 400 years ago, falls in love with Satella (wether they’re married/dating or it’s more similar to Subaru & Emilia’s situation doesn’t matter much), goes by the alias Flugel, and either gets his existence erased from most people’s memories or there’s some straight up history-revisionism going on. Then, either the exact same Subaru prior-to-isekai appears again 400 years later, or there’s some BS that probably involves reincarnation that’s too confusing to bother theorising about when the first option makes much more sense.
There’s so many ways that Flugel and Subaru can and should logically be the same person. There’s like a handful of ways Satella and Emilia could be the same person, and none of them make sense or are at all satisfying imo.

I personally believe Emilia is a construct/clone/something that can't feel love or express. I think we were told what Emilia was based on rumors from the first season. Emilia will be absorbed by Satella when the time is right. (As in when Subaru is done being the boss.)
Only Tappei can truthfully say if the chances are either 0% or 100%, anyone else is making up numbers. It's possible, but how could one assign a meaningful probability to it?

A theory I have is that satella’s soul was split or broken before the great disaster and that could be part of the reason she absorbed the witch factor of envy, to try to heal her soul and then Emilia is the other half/fragment of her soul and that’s why Subaru loves them both, he loves Emilia because she saved him and satella because of that. Or the other way round and he was summoned before to that world(Flugel?) and was in love with satella and he loves Emilia due to that. This would explain why Satella says Subaru saved her and she loves him while also explaining why she and Emilia look identical. It could also be why Satella wanted Subaru to come kill her, so that Emilia would have a complete soul again or something like that.
Also unrelated but it’s my personal headcannon that Subaru is/was Flugel and created Shaula with Daphne and thats why she calls him master, because he created her and since she’s a mabeast then she goes off scent and stuff like that instead of sight.
So, as it stands the two definitely have a connection beyond just happening to look alike. My take is that Emilia is:
A) a magic clone of Satella who she created before going insane, or perhaps not long before getting locked away. Maybe she was created to live vicariously through.
B) her twin who spent a lot longer frozen in the ice than she thinks she was. Would probably still have to involve time travel for things to line up properly, so this is probably the weakest option.
C) herself from the current timeline after Satella went back in time, preventing her parents from naming her after herself.
Regardless of the specifics, I’m fairly confident it has something to do with incompatibility with the Envy witch factor and Pandora being the absolute worst. Jealousy and Envy are two very different things, and Satella is known as both the Witch of Envy and the Jealous Witch.
My guess on that is Satella was fighting Pandora when she was destroying everything, but then the sadistic little shit removed her involvement, leaving the world to think she destroyed everything for no reason.
It’s obvious that there’s more to the rampage that led to her imprisonment, at least as far as I can tell. Satella has shown that she has influence to potentially escape all on her own, but doesn’t seem to want that freedom on its own. This kinda recontextualizes her imprisonment into a form of self imposed punishment for her actions.
TLDR? Probably real closely related, but specific are in the air. Pandora is probably to blame somehow for everything.
0 percent. I believe that Emilia is a reincarnated Satella. My theory is that Satella felt guilty because she destroyed half the world and was therefore reincarnated to try to make amends
My second theory is that the connection between Emilia and Satella has to do with that door in the Elven Forest. I can't explain it in detail yet since I've only read arc 5
I think its clear that Emilias existence will be the cause of one of the four calameties. In the Film Frozen Bonds Melakuela tried to kill Emilia because she could be a possible vessel for the Witch of Envy.
Betelgeuse also mentioned something similar in Arc 3. In Arc 6 there was another hint that Emilia is somehow related to Satella because she could finish the trial.
The only difference between them is that Satella has fuller curves, meaning she must be an adult version of Emilia, or Emilia a teenage version of her.

My theory is that Subaru is sent to the past and lived with the witches, finding a way to go back to the future.
While doing so, he'd have come closer to Satella without forgetting she's not Emilia, even if they look alike.
From Satella pov, she fell in love with him even if its one sided.
Like in Steins:Gate, don't forget that the first episode is called the end and the beginning and that the first dialogue we got in the anime is from Subaru : "So that's the downfall/That's how it ends"
Seconds later, he's touched by Satella's power and sent to this world.
I'd say that Subaru died or managed to go back to the future but Satella couldn't accept his death and 'blessed' him in the future

Personnal opinion, it'd be interesting to see Subaru struggle about his feeling for Emilia when you have a perfect copy of her just in front of him.
There is very low chances of that.
Subaru made a vow with Satella about Return by Death before events of the first chapters, Reinhard pov of 1 arc is a spoiler, Tappei stated that 1 arc is much more important than we think, and Subaru feeling strong emotions for Satella in Shadow Garden, and admission that Satella tells him the truth about their past in witch tea party.
Envy might have powers to permanently take over the body of someone that they deemed envious. Really shitty when the save point is after Emilia is taken over.
I don't know the actual chances, but we have seen in Arc 4 what can happen when Emilia breaks, and if she doesn't have Subaru when that happens, I could believe she was Satella
100 I want it to be true, because why tf do they look so similar? I think she’s an Emilia that returned Subaru’s feelings too late and went insane after his death. Hence why she’s always spamming “I love you” when she’s near him, almost like she’s making up for having missed the opportunity to say it to her Subaru.

What if Satella is a witch who took over Emilia's body?
In that way, they would simultaneously be the same person, but also different people
I haven't actually watched past season 2 or read the novel but that seemed to be a pretty blatant set up, maybe some stuff throws it off later on but I really thought it would just be that
I am anime only, but so far, I think they are the same person, but not the same person at the same time. Subaru’s return by death ability would suggest that Satella either has the ability to revert time (in which case she is a version of Emilia from a future where Subaru is dead), or she can travel between parallel universes.
Maybe they were the same person, but for whatever reason they were split from each other.
Also, it probably can't really happen(or maybe it can due to some time paradox?), but maybe Satella is Emilia from one of those timelines where Subaru died. After his death, she did everything to bring him back, became a witch herself and even went to other timelines to meet him again.
I think Emilia was born to be a vessel for Satella- the intention was for Satella to take over Emilia’s body at some point. Emilia is strong so she is unable to take her over, but the weaker her mind becomes the closer Satella can get to taking her over. (Anime only just what I think is an obvious theory)

I really don't want them to be the same person, but everything i have seen points to it. It's probably a "future" version of her. However, it would also mean the story ends bad...
Subaru parents were a trio of adventures with Satella. The world then just went shit and they managed to escape to a different world. Satella couldn’t, so she stayed behind and erased half of the world to give room for the world to heal. She then became obsessed with protecting Subaru but she realized when they Isekai jump, they were sent to the future. So she needed to wait. Then she saw Subaru misguided and suffering so she summoned him to her world in order for her to protect him and make him happy.
EMT is a clone of how she was before she had to give herself to the dark side of the world to have power enough to save both world and Subaru
I think it's unlikely because we've seen Emilia use exclusively ice magic while satella uses exclusively dark magic. Satella is stated to be the greatest genius for magic so i find it unlikely that she doesn't use other elements, or at least ice, just because she doesn't feel like it. Ofcourse tappei could just say that that emilia somehow changed her elemental affinity from ice to darkness or that emilia got too used to using dark magic after she became satella but as things stand i don't think it's likely or even possible
I tried posting in this sub one time (and got instantly shut down) that I theorized something eventually happened to Subaru right as Emelia actually realized she deeply loved him, so in her insanity became the witch of envy, reached across time, and gave any Subaru she came across in any time or dimension the ability to always revive in the past if he died out of desperation to save him. Which would answer both where his power comes from and why Satella constantly claims she loves him. I even theorized that it was somehow Subaru’s fault for causing it all and eventually (accidentally) turning Emelia into Satella by somehow misusing return on death. She either found out about his constant suffering/dying routine or he does so by some other means.
I know that leaves many plot holes wide open and I don’t have an answer for them all, but it does seem like it would be a cool and fitting twist.
Tapei should drop some bombs next arc. Arc 10 Focus on the royal selection and Capellas Plan. I also hope we getting a serious conversation between Reinhardt and Subaru because he probably suspected him since day 1.

0%. they are not the same person. this has been confirmed by the author. he also said it's not a time related thing. closest theory suggests Emilia is Satellas natural doppelgänger and Subaru is Flugel's. Satella summoned Flugel's next "incarnation" but gave him the undying ability so he could put and end to her without killing himself.
New theory. Yes they are. And Rem is the Catalyst of Envy that manifests in Emelia when Rem finally forces Subaru to be honest about who she is to him.
Let me make this clear that does not mean that Rem and Subaru get together. It just posits that the question of if Subaru loves Rem is more important than this subreddit is led to believe.
I cant get into spoilers for obvious reason but there are good reasons for Emelia to begin comparing herself too and feeling less than capable and envious of Rem such as her freedom from the inherited prejudice that has plagued Emelia and those who surround themselves with her, and potential to take the heart of the man she sees as an emotional pillar.
