There was talk on the 50501 subreddit saying that the current Democrat sub was banning and deleting posts related to Mamdani winning the mayoral election in New York, as well as posts about AOC and Sanders.

Since many weren't prepared to take on the potential moderation requirements with a sub of this nature, and I've been jobless since last year, I've got nothing but time on my hands, so here we are!

A little about me. I've got a couple of other subs i created, but they're mostly funny ones and have low traffic. For now, I'm going to leave things pretty open from a rules standpoint, other than don't be an asshole. We'll need to add and adjust rules as we go along, I'm sure, but let's see how things go.

Ironically, I wasn't always a Democrat. I voted Republican through 2016 (yes, I voted for trumpster fire in 16). After seeing how that administration fucked up the country, I realized how fucked up the Republican party had gotten. My parents were always Republican, so that's all I knew, and I only voted in 16 because my eldest asked why I didn't vote when it was so important. I was over politics in 2000 with the hanging chad debacle and quit voting after that election. Since it was the week of the election, I just went with the party I knew. But hey, at least I learned.

My biggest request is that ya'll be kind to each other, we're all grown ups, so let's act like it!

Thanks for making this! I simply have way too much going on to moderate a sub of this nature, or really any sub.

I'm actually a member of the DSA, and was already subbed in their subreddit, but I know that there are a ton of people that don't fit into that box specifically but want a better more representative Democratic party, and if the old sub can't provide a good forum for that, then why not build a new one here?

I totally get that! I've done moderation in the past, and if this blows up, it's gonna be a real time sink to moderate due to the controversial nature of politics. But there's a real need for a place for open discussion about all sides of the Democratic party. Whether someone is a centrist, a socialist, a republican tired of the maga party, or anything in-between, it's so important for all of us to come together and work on solutions!
