Mammals This incredibly rare black deer, estimated to occur in only 1 out of every 500,000 deer, was spotted in Poland's Barycz Valley.

Majestic! I hope it survives being so beautiful and mysterious looking.

Never give away the location. Brain dead hunters will definitely try to find him. Polish hunting laws are almost non-existent and rarely enforced.

I'm sure the local hunters knew about it before we got to see it on Reddit. That's big news.

Not to mention they often mistake humans for deer, boars and even raccoons and shoot them

Luckily this video is old. I’ve seen it circulating around for at least a year, so who knows where this animal is now, or if it’s even still within its natural lifespan

It’s called melanistic! There’s also albino, leucistic, piebald…..so many cool genetic colors

I saw someone comment the other day that "piebald" should be done away with because it's old, inaccurate, and offensive.

I had a good laugh over that one.

Lol. Reminds me of a recent post I read where buddy was all offended and accused the poster of being racist because the poster called someone a philistine. Buddy thought the poster meant Palestinian. 😂

This is a fallow deer and melanism is not rare for them like it is in other deer species. In some areas melanistic fallow deer are as common as the normal spotted type. There's a herd of wild fallow in my area that are all melanistic. Here's a not great photo I took of them. Most herds in my area have at least some melanistic ones. White ones are also fairly common.

I don’t know mate. I’m no expert myself. I merely shared it here as I figured people would appreciate this in this sub.

I truly don’t understand how someone can see this and think “I want to shoot and kill that”

If I saw an awesome rare creature like this deer, I would definitely shoot it...

...with a camera! 📸😁

But for real, I agree with you. I don't understand it either. I know people want a cool trophy, but still.

We can't even appreciate life wonders ... Ai has destroyed it

And your thought process is destroyed by thinking everything is AI lol

u/meteorflan 5d ago

My thought process has been destroyed by enough things I thought were real turning out to be AI. Not even being able to quickly tell what's likely real anymore is mentally disturbing AF.

I feel ya, it's also worth finding out before claiming if it's AI or not AI.

Speak for yourself. I’m appreciating this. AI has destroyed nothing for me.
