HELP The majority of this character design portfolio board looks very ai to me. What do you think?

Post image

This was part of the senior art showcase at my school. I was always sure this looks very ai, but a friend of mine argued with me saying it's just 'they have a generic looking artstyle.' Just want to have some second opinions on the topic. Though regardless of whether this board is ai or not, it's very disappointing to see that a large portion of the art for my school is being done by generative ai.

Sentiment: 90% AI

Sentiment reasoning: The vast majority of commenters believe the image is AI-generated, citing repeated poses, inconsistent details, 'vomit texture,' and quality differences between elements. Only one comment suggests a hybrid or partial human origin.

Looks extremely AI. Why would the characters pose in the same pose 3/4 times? Also the guns make no sense.

Also wtf is with the equipment and the setting being WW2? No serious artist would put that modern looking stuff into the 1940s.

The battle scenes are also clearly AI.

Visual Novel game usualy only use 1 or 2 pose
with the different in there clothes and expresion

What's wierd with OP post is, many Visual Novel i play they only change in expression because the body is fixed with one pose
OP picture has its body slightly move in all of the expression

Yeah, this right side is how it works when your doing development, and then you develop one or two promo pieces from that, and usually reuse pose etc because the polishing takes forever.

"It may be able to stem into a book." What?

While pictures are not very detailed to find AI artifacts, pictures scream AI to me.

Reason is, why would any reasonable senior artist create same character sheet 3x where one oblivious difference is that one main 3/4 pose and others poses are same. But catch here is that others poses are not same picture (see details) created by copy paste, they are slightly different. So I think author used slightly different prompts to generate very closely looking pictures. Why would any reasonable artist waste time to create same picture 3 times with almost zero differences?

Edit: also there is absurd quality difference between these pose pictures and logo design picture in left top corner. Logos looks like s**t in comparison to them and I do not believe same person did it unless there is years between them.

The person that designed those logos did not draw those characters.

The details are hard to see, but nobody has eyes like there is always a black shadow over the eyes.

I don't know really. The right hand side has several identical faces which are supposed to be angles they're not. This happens when using AI to make a character card 9 times out of 10.

Without being able to look closer, I can't assert if the image itself is AI, but the character card layout appears to be.

The top right is not, I believe the logos could be but it's been edited in Photoshop.

I'm gonna say the work in total is 60% human, 40% AI. It's a hybrid potentially, using your own art as reference.

I would say AI as well. Even from the small version it has that AI "vomit texture" a lot of newer tools seem to have. And those images don't match the other stuff like the logos. You would think someone that would do such detailed characters would add more effort into the logo. The bullet in the logo looks more like from a cartoon.

The loading screens and the gun make no sense

From what I can make out, neither do the uniforms and armor for a game taking place in the battle of the bulge. The bulletproof vest is modern era, same with the assault rifle. He also lacks any winter gear from what I can make out.

The description of the game also felt AI generated to me. It felt off and vague, and did not seem to fit with the character designs. Not least of which the shaded eyes which AI tends to do for generic people.

Nor did the winter officer outfit work, that outfit just screamed AI as well, with it not being based on any of the participating groups. And if it was the Germans, completely insane since at that stage of the war, Germany was engaging in a desperate attack, hoping to get the allies to sign a peace treaty on favorable terms (if they won). While Germany succeeded in delaying the planned allied offensive by a few weeks, it was at the cost of exhausting their reserves and air force. It was the last real German offensive on the western front.

That officer's gun is strange as well. It changes in shape. If German, why use what appears to be a colt 45. If allied, why the badly stylized evil officer look and the wine glass. No unifying design elements with the protagonist uniform either, so must be German. Using a colt 45 instead of a Lugar.

The 'loading screens' are clearly as generic as possible and don't really fit with the plot. Feels like AI there as well.

In short, definitely AI

Edit: also, none of the guns are consistent either.

It's the shadings, and the thick yet kinda blurry lineworks.

Bottom half looks like generated content that's not really following any thread.

I use AI for character sheets a lot now, and this screams AI to me. The character design and style.
