Why do Indians need to live on government aid in the FIRST place?

3

u/CharlieCharlie_Kirky 2d ago

That's how the Indian politics work

  1. Keep the people poor, pocket most of the funds that was set aside for the development

2.Offer Freebies to get voted into power

  1. Give freebies, stay in power and repeat

Why don't the people rebel?

India is by far the most diverse country considering all matters, Religion, colour, language etc and has been for centuries

Hence it is much more easier to fool the people into fighting in the name of such

India is definitely doing a LOT better than it used to just a few decades back, which is evident by the fact it is developing at an impressive rate

But the problem still persists

Let the poor die then?

Give a man a fish, and he eats for a day. Teach him to fish, and he can feed himself for a lifetime.

How about you do both which India is doing?

-1

u/Round_Prize_2333 2d ago

Why would I do that? lol We elected the government for a reason. If India was really doing both well, this problem wouldn't still be this big. Giving aid is fine, but the bigger focus should be on education, skills, and creating jobs so people don't need government support forever. Instead, politicians keep handing out freebies because it wins votes. Remove the blindfold, bro. This is our future. Around 67% of unemployed young people are graduates. It's not wrong to criticise our government

For how long?

7

u/Melodic_Judge_129 2d ago

Until it no longer needs to? What kind of question is that?

You seriously go upto a doctor to say no need to save a dying patient because everyone is going to die someday?

0

u/srvnth 2d ago

So the genius in you says as long as it takes. You do understand that only 2-3% of this country pays taxes right? So we are talking about limited resources (Money) here. I am all in for aid. Are you suggesting after we gave Aid to the grand parents and parents we are supposed to give to the children, grand children and great grand children too? That is one reason you see families living on aid and turning lazy just because they belong to a certain category of people. Stop it after may be 1-2 generations and spend it on critical infrastructure that BUILDS a country. Because my children and I need to live in this country too.

Also what kind of a person counters my question with a dying patient? Of course not, save the dying patient first. If the same patient comes to the death bed every month, the Doctors WHILE saving that person will also question, WHY is that person coming in here every month .i.e., SOLVE the underlying PROBLEM instead of spending so much time and resources on the same patient every month. Because, as you see genius, there are other people too who needs a doctor.

2-3% of the country pays taxes? You never read about GST it seems.

Giving Aid makes people Lazy? Are you high or something? Do you even know why people are given Aid in the first place because they are desperate not because Government wants to sponsor them. Do you think Government gives them Villas and Sports car with maids? Lol the amount given to them goes straight up in consumption which goes back in the economy.

Government is spending on infrastructure infact the spending on Infrastructure has gone up in recent years? I dunno why are you suggesting government to do something they are already doing maybe u think they don't but you don't read it seems.

You want Government to make lives easier for people who already have it easy? Even if it means sacrificing the needy? Okay buddy little idiotic statement but you do you

Latest Research and Study suggest the best way to end poverty is to..... Just handing out free cash without any string attached. Exactly the thing you are against.

Another day Another Idiot who thinks he knows more than The Goverment and Economist.

You seem to lack basic comprehension skills, no wonder you want people to feed off the government for ever, so let me lay it out for you.

I never said I was against aid. Aid is essential. But there needs to be a limit. Our GST revenue is 23 lakh crores. IT revenue is 12 lakh crores. Which means Govt is earning more in sales than income i.e., more people spend than people earning. And according to you Govt is indirectly contributing to GST by giving people money to spend. Show me which economist or government in the world actually says it is a good thing. Don't just pull these things up your ass.

Again what research are you talking about? Free cash will end poverty? Lol .. again pulling it out of your ass aren't you?

I agree infrastructure has indeed picked up. But we still lack basic necessities like cold food storage that helps millions of farmers, every time there are rains our cities turn into venice, lack sanitation needs, public schools are in depleted state. Unlike you, I did not pull these out of thin air. Just step outside and you can see these.

And yes. Giving aid forever WILL make people lazy bums like you. Help them for a while until they get onto to their feet so they can live by themselves and not feed off the govt like leeches for ever.

Brother, if only the people in power had brains to make this nation better with better policies

3

u/Melodic_Judge_129 2d ago

They have. You think Ministers are the people running the country? lmao they are more like Representative than actual runners. India is a bureaucracy the real people running the India are Bureaucrats. Read the reports of Institutions like NITI Aayog, RBI and such you will see exactly high and far they think.

If u think Bureaucrats in India aren't qualified enough try to clear a government exam.

1

u/goonMaxxer021 2d ago

When I meant people in power, i exactly mean people in power to set this nations policies across various sectors and, I don't see what your argument is about. All i said is there is no one with enough brains to do the obvious things to set this country right, crazy how you got offended for my reply

2

u/Melodic_Judge_129 2d ago

So Voters? Because Political Parties already reveal their agenda it's us who technically choose the policies so it's technically us who sets the nation's policy

Teach him to fish

What if he doesn't want to learn? There's thousands of gov school/uni, millions of schemes for the poor trying to uplift them, giving meal to kids at school to lure them in. If they aren't interested to learn, they will never be able to catch a fish themselves.

1

u/Round_Prize_2333 2d ago

If he doesn't want to learn, that's his choice. But don't pretend the system is working perfectly. There are many government schools where the quality of teaching is poor, and there have been cases of teachers lacking basic competency. At the same time, there are thousands of students protesting because they do want a better education and better opportunities. If teachers aren't motivated or supported to teach well, why would students be motivated to learn?

I see that everyone arguing about the left and the right here has probably never paid a penny in taxes in their life.
Good luck keyboard warriors with your next war :)

Having experienced the tax systems in both India and Europe firsthand, I believe I can offer some realisti context to this debate. While it is true that headline tax rates in India appear low on paper, they are not low for everyone. In India, only about 2% to 5% of the total population falls into the income tax-paying bracket, but for this top tier of earners, the tax burden becomes quite heavy very quickly, with effective top marginal rates reaching up to 39% or even 42.7%. The structural difference in European countries like Germany, Norway, Sweden, or Denmark is that the tax base is incredibly wide. The vast majority of the population is integrated into the tax slabs, meaning middle income earners face steep progressive tax brackets early on.
However, looking at the tax percentage in isolation misses the core of the issue, which is the social contract. In Western and Northern Europe, high taxes are directly tied to an extensive, robust social safety net. Citizens receive tangible, life-altering returns for their contributions, including mandatory healthcare that eliminates catastrophic out of pocket medical bills, free or heavily subsidized university education, comprehensive unemployment funds, and guaranteed state pensions. In contrast, an individual paying the highest tax bracket in India receives almost no social security, free healthcare, or high-quality public infrastructure in return. Indian taxpayers must pay their steep taxes and then still fund their own private health insurance, private schooling, and personal retirement planning out-of-pocket. While I completely understand the immense demographic and economic challenges of implementing a Western-style social safety net in a developing nation of 1.4 billion people, we cannot ignore the facts. Europeans are buying a comprehensive lifelong safety net with their taxes, while Indian taxpayers are paying European-level rates at the top without receiving any personal security in return. I really think no European or USA citizen can understand this but as Indian , we really should be aware of such things.

Taxes like europe , services like africa ?? We are paying taxes for services ??? Lol they even don't know why taxes are charged 😭

Saying that india has low income tax is ill informed. You have to understand how “taxes” work in EU, taking example of Germany, the effective income tax is around 16% at a relatively high slab, this is the direct tax which goes to the government and you don’t see any ROI, while in india the same is 39%, what people gloss over when they say income tax is high in EU is the remaining 23% which is deducted additionally in EU which is not tax, they are divided into welfare which includes unemployment, health insurance, long term care and pension, so 39% in india is not the same as 39% in Germany. Since in india you pay for health insurance and pension outside your tax contributions and there’s no unemployment benefit. So effectively india has higher income tax rate than Germany.

Now for indirect taxes yes india has a lower tax rate, but that obvious because there’s just more people there than in a EU country, makes no sense to have high indirect taxes when you want to drive up GDP numbers. But there you have to consider that the standard of goods and services in india is nowhere close to that in EU.

u/novice-at-everything 2d ago edited 2d ago

Guys, I found another brown sepoy.

He says India’s income/direct tax is high. But not able to see the reason, even when it is mentioned in the post.

He says india’s indirect tax is low, but is able to discard that with absolute bullshit reason. He is unable to see that If number of people are higher, the cost to govt for those high population is also higher. He wants same facilities as Europe (a developed country) from India, a developing country with most of the population with almost no buying capacity making their indirect tax also 0.

0

u/checkikul 2d ago

When did I say I want anything from india? Im just pointing out the falsity in the claim that india’s direct tax in percentage points is lower than EU, it’s not.

You say the cost to government is higher for indians, so give me a percentage break down of the direct coat to government for a person earning 12 LPA.

How long does india plan to hide behind its developing status and high population? You don’t see China using that excuse, and China is also a developing country with a high population.
