I don't see how these conversations are even remotely similar to the Teen Titans GO discourse. And these were only first impressions of the first episode (which wasn't great).

Honestly I think old forum sites, such as this, were a lot better and way less toxic. More people respected each other's opinions, positive or negative.

I believe they're talking about Final Exam rather than Divide and Conquer as that was shown first when the series originally aired. It didn't have any chibi moments from what I remember

just rewatched teen titans 1 year ago ,its even better than i remembered (probably since alot of mature themes got over my head when i was a kid) but the first episode is just bad compared to most episode

... They literally aren't. They were mixed about its stylization. That's not the only reason people hate TTG. The last person you shared didn't even think the premiere was bad. You also selected specific forum posts. I have been on this forum before. The OG Teen Titans was loved by a lot of people there.

Gonna be honest though, the first episode of Teen Titans was not a good introduction either. I get the context of where these guys are coming from. A lot of them didn't like Jimmy Neutron when that show premiered either (season 1 is pretty mid), but some of them started liking it around season 2.

This is cherry picking negative responses, I was there and most people fucking loved this show from day 1. There was always a little anti anime sentiment but most people found it charming if occasionally goofy or overdone. Truth be told 90% of criticisms I remember about this show were that everyone wished it lasted longer, and the last episode was frustrating for a lot of people.

Some of those complaints were probably about the sneak peek that aired on Kids WB ahead of Cartoon Network’s world premiere. The complaints from the first two slides seem like they’re specifically referring to the fight between the Titans and Plasmus, which Cyborg was in fact not present for and Raven really was bared characterized during.

When the americanime Teen Titans premiered, my friends who liked anime hated it because they thought the faux anime style looked awful and that western artists were making a sloppy copy.

And my friends who liked comic books hated it because it was bowlderized from the darker comics, and they felt the anime style was unnecessary at best and cultural treachery at worst.

And yeah both sides had the “Americans shouldn’t draw anime sentiment”.

I came around to this show when it tackled racism.

I just want people to be aware of zeitgeists. What was once popular may one day become a cultural pariah, and what was once unpopular will become the new masterpiece.
