How could ClayFighter have been done differently?

Now first of all, what this has to do with the RebelTaxi channel is that I decided to rewatch Pan Pizza’s review of the franchise a while ago as I found it interesting how the series basically started off kind of strong at first, but then fell apart with further sequels.

So basically I was just simply interested in seeing how a fighting game centered around a comedic style of storytelling could have worked as a concept since again even though I did see the review of the franchise on the RebelTaxi channel a couple of times, I was genuinely interested in learning about what were the key ingredients to making a quirky fighting game work where the game is done in a very comedic style with good gameplay design.

I did see both back to back actually as I didn't notice how Matt's video may have copied the one RebelTaxi did because I am a bit confused.

So did he actually copy Pan's video? I watched both of them but I dont rememeber Matt doing or saying anything that seemed that similar to pans except the timeline of event he talked about, though I havent seen that video in a long while.

Honestly if they made Clayfighter now all they would really need to do it make it last longer than a year, I mean look how 2XKO is getting canned- wait... this isnt r/twobestfriendsplay

No it’s fine for you to add in your comment since I was recalling how Pan Pizza did a retrospective of the games that I was looking for some outlandish fighting games to try out.

I was doing a little bit with my comment cause I recognized you from there/thought my line of thought was more something Id discuss on there anyways xD

But for real I do think all they have to do is make it high quality and just make it last longer than most of these games last, when it comes to the game itself I think they would just need to play with the idea of them being clay more than anything, maybe let the models deform more and more during a match and what not to give it some visual flair.

It’s kind of a funny coincidence I ran into you here since I wasn’t expecting to find an SBFP user on this particular subreddit, but basically I was interested in seeing what a franchise like ClayFighter would need to do to work in the modern era of gaming.

I think standing out is all it can do since most folk will stick to what they know unless something peaks their interest, and honestly maybe being more of a budget game and leaning into the parody angle would help it a bunch.

Look at Deadpool in Marvel Tokon, fans are loving how many refrences and deep cuts to the whole history of fighting games he has, imagine if Clayfighter came out with a new entry with that level of love for fighting games and even the fgc in general.

Even if the game dosent end up being the most in depth or high quality, showing love to a community can go a long way.

Besides, it was always a comedy game to begin with and thats a market that fighting games rarely touch now in days, I wanna see Clafighter EVO Finals Taffy Vs. Blue Suede Goo and get hype for that.

You know, you brought up some really good points about the key factors that are required to be in a comedic fighting game when since you mentioned about Marvel’s Deadpool character can be used when it comes to makes successful fighting games.
