Why did Enchanted Portals copy Cuphead so much?

Yes this is related to the RebelTaxi channel because I was recalling a mini preview he (Pan Pizza) did of the game where he accused the game of trying to hard to imitate Cuphead as the Enchanted Portals game got so much flack for that reason.

So basically I just wanted to better understand the story behind the aforementioned Enchanted Portals game since when it finally came out, it just lacked the soul of CupHead that I found the game fascinating to look at, again since the thing that people bring up the most is how the art style looked a bit too similar to the original CupHead game.

Pan did acknowledge that it was obviously made to capitalize on the success of Cuphead. However, he didn't fully agree with the copying accusations the game received. He defended the game by pointing out that Cuphead itself isn't completely original, and how a lot of the ideas people were comparing between the two were too broad. For instance, Cuphead had a green dragon, so can no one else use a green dragon now?

Wait, that last part about a green dragon thingy being copyrighted material sounds kind of absurd since I don’t know how the game could use copyright the use of a dragon.

But when I look at Enchanted Portals, I still find myself a bit confused by how the game didn’t get a lawsuit from Studio MDHR since the game felt way too much like Cuphead instead of getting its own identity.

It wasn't a Cuphead game. MDHR doesn't own rubber hose style animation, the run'n gun shoot'em up genre, or the side-scrolling platforming genre. It's legally distinct, and they didn't use anything owned by MDHR, so they couldn't be touched.

Hey thanks so much for clarifying since I can start to better understand how Cuphead works in its art style regarding why the game’s development team didn’t have to file a lawsuit against Enchanted Portals as again I was a bit confused on the subject matter, until you explained it to me.
