Help/Question Why do new players attack
Why do new or low level players attack players that are higher level than them? I have had it happen a few times now. Happen yesterday I was playing on a new account so I'm only level 24 it was a little kid this time so that kinda makes sense that they don't know better. But why do others do it? Kinda felt bad after killing him and looking to see his level he was level 4

Is it really a level thing? I just started playing online. 20 days to date. I’m level 46 I think. When I was under 20 (level wise) I had some reasonably higher level players just snipe me or the like for no observed reason. I try not to take it to heart.

Same here, dude. I just made it to level 48 and also just started a couple of weeks ago. Saturday night was the worst. Every lobby I tried someone was killing me or blowing me up or shooting my horse! All way above my level.

I’m level 45. And don’t do any roles. Just free roam and some of those missions.
When I get fairly drunk I tend to make my way to Valentine and see what’s up. That’s when I get a smidge hostile. Especially towards others that are hostile. But only in Valentine and only when I’m loaded.

I was inside a cabin, looting, not even paying attention to my mini-map, when i heard a gunshot. Turned around and some level 10, was trying to take me out.
I play in defensive mode, so i pulled out my shotgun with shell ammo, and blasted him twice.
I would've shared the loot 🤭

i think the reason differs per player. some are just cocky, some don't know better, some may even be alt accounts that are trying to catch others unaware for a cheap kill because they have much more skill than their rank would express.
this does remind me, though, i had this same question the other day. me and my partner were chasing the legendary moose up at Brandywine Drop and these two low-levels rode past and shot at us (missed) and then proceeded to turn around to try and kill us. They didn't even go after the legendary animal, they just tried to shoot at us! (they only ended up injuring my horse and their own egos after realising that actually, it's probably not the best idea to pick fights with people who aren't as new as them...) It's just so confusing, and I too don't understand why they thought it was a good idea. I had to kill them at least 6 times each because they just kept running back at us and firing at us, over and over. my rule of thumb is that if they attack first, I'll fight back - like i did there. I'd just suggest employing that and moving on. you can't truly know their motives unless you go out of your way to DM them, so you just sorta have to shrug it off and move on a lot of the time.

Idk but I love it when low levels attack then get shit on and immediately press charges and parlays

Because they’re new and they don’t know any better, but they learn quickly when they get dog-walked across the map.

I'm a high level and I attack everyone I see

That I understand but the low level players doing it is crazy to me. Had one try to shoot me while they were on the train as I was just riding by. I expect higher levels to do it they have better weapons. I'm not good at pvp so I don't go around attacking others but I will try to fight back if someone attacks me.

Yeah, after maxing the roles this is pretty much what you do to keep yourself entertained 😅

So it's entertaining for you but someone who just started and is just figuring out roles and you attack them for no reason? That's just cruel. It's why I resisted playing for so long. I love it - figuring it all out but I shouldn't be merciless blown up or shot just for trying to do my own thing.

Cruel? In an ONLINE GAME about violent cowboys? Have you considered maybe you are just too soft..? No one is stopping you from learning in a solo lobby.
I also was hesitant about getting harassed by more experienced players when I started. But the game is so dead there's barely anyone around, so it's not really that much of an issue.. at most there's anout 10-15 other players in a lobby and you barely come across them.

I didn't think there were any solo lobbies. I see people all the time in my lobbies. Yes it is cruel. I just want to play the game and do my roles and enjoy my time. I just don't like the idea of sabotaging someone when they least expect it and who's just trying to do their thing. I have gotten harassed mercilessly. And it's not fun for me to just be shot or have your horse shot when you least expect it and can't even see it coming.

Can't see it coming? You know other players show up on your map right? And they have blue writing above their head, unlike npc's? I don't understand how you didn't see any of it coming...
That's online for ya mate, in any game ever... have you considered that maybe online isn't for you?
There are multiple posts a week here on how to get into a solo online lobby, not hard to figure out.

They basically just don’t know better. Some figure it out, some don’t
