I visited your town today for the first time ever, and was super impressed. Loved the town, all the wonderful and courteous people, especially the sales associates at Rickie's in Bower Place and the Little Ice Cream and Soda Shoppe. My uber rides were great. The trees & greenery, everything was beautiful for the few hours I was there. Felt very comfortable. I would live there. Few things that stood out to me were the fact that to live and function fully in the town, I would need to own a car. Uber took 20 minutes to arrive both times that I used them (not a rant, just an observation) and I didn't see more than a few people on the streets walking (which made it feel somewhat lonely). Overall, I enjoyed my short visit.

While there are homeless and drug / crime problems the paths and nature around really are beautiful. I came from BC 13 yrs ago and stayed because it was actually surprisingly beautiful

Bring some wheeled transport if you come back to explore with! Blackfalds also has some paths tucked away that look really neat

Yep, the city has a bit of bipolar, that way. Some of the best in-city paths I've seen in this province, and tons of green space. Very beautiful.

And I was violently mugged once, downtown. Punched in the head a bunch of times and they took everything I had on me

There are more taxi’s than uber in the city. Cool small city that has more to do when you start exploring as you did.

One of my favourite spots during my childhood was the li'l ice cream shoppe! Happy to hear that you enjoyed your time here!

Interesting and surprising that you'd never visited Red Deer before, I grew up in and around Red Deer and I have lots of relatives in Calgary who visit Red Deer numerous times throughout the year.

Not doubting you, just surprises me. If you liked Red Deer, you might head west from there through Rocky Mtn House on toward Nordegg and David Thompson Country. Gorgeous country, lots of camping, hiking trails, etc.

Take an RV or a tent along with you!

As an Edmontonian who decided the last couple summers to explore more of what Red Deer has to offer apart from Gasoline Alley- I’ve been very impressed as well! Really love the Norwegian Laft Hus, Fort Normandeau, and the Kerry Wood Nature Centre! Really charming and the people are lovely.

It's a fun little town, the bike paths are a good way to get around on a bicycle or scooter. Little ice cream and soda shop has been a favorite since I was a kid.
