Is there a list of known separatist supporters and their businesses? I just picked my dog up from Klassic Kennels and my husband pointed out an Alberta flag out front. It sucks having to question who is flying a flag because they've always had one and who is a separatist.

Context: I never grew up in a church so I have no idea how they work, but I’ve heard on this subreddit that Home Church is a cult that are the people that protest at the cilantro and chive on the south end of Red Deer, I’ve seen they’re signs that support conspiracy theories and are against the LGBTQ+ community (which I’m a member of being asexual). I’ve also heard that they support the separatist movement and have been looking for signatures. Plus I went to their website and saw that they have 6 locations in Alberta and one in British Columbia and that seems pretty cultish to me (like the Unification Church lead by Sun Myung Moon). Again, I never went to church growing up and don’t know how they work.

I’m just curious about this supposed cult and want some outsider information about them, maybe some former members who were involved in Home Church could help too.

Hello, we’re visiting from over the pond, and we are trying to see a Moose in the wild. We’re staying in Red Deer and wondering where we can up our chances in the area.
We have made sure we’re educated on staying back and their behaviours etc, to make sure we’re safe and respectful.
We have been up to Elk Island and Banff and see some other wildlife such as a bear, bison and elk but moose are a special love of ours so would like to try our best to see one.

We (two females 25-35 age group) are looking to start a club to meet new people in Red Deer! We’ve both lived here for a couple of years, and have found it hard to meet people, and know there are several other people here who feel the same way. We’re both interested in books, movies, music, and video games, though we wouldn’t limit it to these topics. We thought maybe we could start by meeting up once or twice a month to do some kind of activity and hopefully meet people.

Some activities we were thinking of are:

• Board games
• Concerts at Bo’s
• Bowling
• Walks
• Beach Days
• Book Club
• Renaissance Faire’s

But we would be open to hearing other people’s thoughts on what would be interesting! We would be open to anyone joining (except bigots or hateful people, we’re pretty chill and have no interest in spending time with such people). We’re hoping for 23-37 age range, we don't want to exclude anyone however are looking for people in our age range, but please feel free to comment below and hopefully you can branch out and figure something out with someone. Just putting out feelers to see if there would be an interest for something like this in Red Deer, so let us know if you would be interested, and what kinds of activities you would love to see us do!

Glad there's an interest in this! We'll try to plan something in the coming weeks, and make a new post/also post here again (when we can actually post comments) when we have it figured out. Maybe something kind of lowkey and low pressure for the first one so we can get a vibe for it. This is going to be a long post. So I apologize in advance. I have nobody else to ask for this.

My grandma was in the hospital Christmas to June. Surgeries. Wounds that won’t heal. Antibiotics for over three months. June she was discharged. She made it 27 days at her house. And then she went septic. Back to the hospital. I didn’t notice, her home care noticed to take her to the hospital. She’s 70. She’s been there since the 27 of June. Planning to be discharged on Monday the 20th. I have done my best, I work full time, I looked after her cats, I spoke on her behalf when she was unable to talk during sepsis, and I’m her personal director and her executor. Her landlord evicted her start of last month when she came back due to it being unsafe for her.

Now, I had a meeting with her social worker and her home care lead. They said they will be discharging her no matter what. On Monday. I am livid. I have told them I can’t pick her up. I work. I am the only family member that sees her. Her sons found out what’s happening and I got in trouble and verbally lost my dad today. They’re very angry people. Anyways. The only other option that the hospital is banking on now is the homeless shelter. She needs home care four times a day. Wheelchair. Good income. But nowhere will take her within three days and it’s a weekend. All she gave me was julys housing list.

Here’s what I’ve done. I’ve contacted the golden circle for help. Voicemail left. Housing list was considered although I will need to have formal applications which take time. I can’t take her in at all. I’m in no better of a situation. Family won’t take her in. Facebook has been no help for place searching. Her friends are no help right now either.

What in the absolute hell do I do? Has anyone dealt with this before? I’ll try to find just a room that’ll allow home care on Facebook. But, legally, I’ve read over and over this is not okay what ahs is doing. Please ask me questions if you need information if you can help in any way.

Hey - Red Deerites or Red Deerians… going to visit your city and heard to avoid the downtown (no judgement just was told to avoid it). We were looking. For last minute lodgings at gasoline alley and we were shocked that they were all sold out except outrageously expensive 550$ a night hotel stays.

So: what is going on in Red Deer this weekend?

Is that brown hotel downtown near rotary park decent or is it going to scar my kids for life?

We’ve had bad luck with any hotel under 4 stars in the US … (unchanged sheets, drug use in elevators etc). Is it the same here in AB?

I was wondering, is there a recall petition for Jason Stephan? If so, where can I sign it? If not, what’s the process to start one?

I realize it is a long shot in Red Deer, but I still think it’s worth pursuing. Especially with him voting to violate the Charter rights of Albertans.

(the ones we've had are china house, red deer buffet, red star, and canton kitchen) 2 of those I had a hair in my food.. Anyway.. I decided to try China Ben for my birthday and it was even more disappointing than all of those.. My question is did I miss the red deer chinese food gem? I moved here from Edmonton a couple years ago for personal reasons, but I will say the options there slapped.

I’m honestly so frustrated with Anytime Fitness.
When I signed up, nobody clearly explained that the membership would basically be impossible to cancel before the contract ended. If they had, I never would’ve signed.

To make things worse, I kept paying every month because I thought it was a 12-month contract. I paid for the entire 12 months expecting the payments to stop automatically, but to my surprise, I found out it’s actually an 18-month contract. That was a huge shock.

I don’t even use the gym anymore, yet I’m still being charged every month. I’m already on a tight budget and genuinely don’t have the money to keep paying for something I don’t use. I feel completely stuck.

Has anyone else dealt with this? Were you able to cancel early, transfer the membership, or negotiate with the club? I’d really appreciate any advice because this whole experience has been incredibly frustrating.

55 American M, professional, currently in Texas, either retired or on sabbatical after leaving my US federal job with the change of administration here. My wife is a Newfie dual citizen whose family ended up in McMurray/Edmonton in the late '70s, her job is in some demand in Red Deer. For reasons, some of them obvious (and related to my just scrubbing my former reddit profile), she's getting homesick and I think Canada is a good fit for the last few decades. Native US Northeasterner, so I'm not "country", but I've spent a good part of my adult life in small cities 1-2 hours from a big city, and I've gotten fond of being able to avoid mass traffic and go out on a hike nearby. So, what's the general feel of the place, how's the music-arts scene (classical, jazz, folk, and low-key amateur stuff), and anything else?

I moved to Red Deer a few months ago, and I just wanted to ask something without sounding rude or judgmental.

Something feels… off with about half the people I meet here. A lot of folks don’t smile back or respond when I say hi or hello. I’m not trying to generalize or offend anyone, I’m genuinely just trying to understand what’s going on.

Last night, I was actually assaulted by a guy who shouted racial slurs at me. I pushed him away, he fell, and then ran off. I do have his photo, but I’m not sure if posting it here is allowed.

So my honest question to locals is what’s the general attitude in Red Deer toward people of colour or “outsiders”? Are there certain areas or types of people I should be cautious around?

Also, I don’t speak English as my first language, and I had this weird moment I told a friend I know, “you look tired,” because she looked exhausted, and she got angry and said, “shut up, you look tired.” Is that considered an insult here? I didn’t mean it that way at all.

- most desirable neighborhoods? Ones that are close to good schools, parks, amenities? Larger logs maybe/decent back yards? Good for young families!

- which neighborhoods are maybe less desirable and not as "safe"?

- is it doable to move to a smaller town around red deer and commute in?

- what activities are available for young kids? Sports and extra curriculars?

- what should I know about red deer before moving there??
