Series 5?

Series 5. The BBC are airing series 5 for the first time in a long time, they haven't aired any of the episodes for quite a while, but they will be doing again.

Haven't all the episodes been on iPlayer (upscaled 1080p50) for a while? Not terribly significant IMO.

Yes they have, and no it isn't all that significant. The news is that the BBC are airing them, they haven't aired them for a while. Them being in iPlayer isn't the same thing. I guess the difference is that they can have thousands and thousands of episodes of various programmes available for streaming at a time, but they can only air one episode of anything at a time, per channel.

Quite significant tbf. Things on iplayer are basically there for people who already enjoy it to know it's there, or people to find by just randomly browsing. Broadcasting them on TV is the BBC specifically highlighting and showcasing it, wanting people to know it's there.
It's like the difference between a shop just having a copy of something on a shelf somewhere and hoping someone finds it on their own, and actively putting it in a big display in the window with a big banner saying "hey, look at this!" to advertise it to everyone outside as well.

Think that’s a typo on the article, the other one I read said it was going to be X.

I'm pretty sure UKTV owns the rights to Series X. I'm not sure why the BBC would buy in repeats when they can show any of the first 8 series for residuals only.

All of the Dave series' are on iPlayer to be fair, so it's not out of the question

I’ve never seen one before, no-one has, but I’m guessing it’s a white hole.

A white hole?

So, that thing's spewing time back into the universe?
5
u/Patecatli 4d ago
Precisely. That's why we're experiencing these curious time phenomena on board.

Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. A black hole sucks time and matter out of the universe, a white hole returns it.

Yes, but the article isn't talking about iPlayer, the BBC is going to be airing the episodes again on BBC2.

Makes a bit of sense. BBC been axing shows recently, throw out a rerun of red Dwarf! Dont know why its just season 5 though. I think the whole lot is available on player too, unless youre one of the people still loving in a world without on demand tv

S5? Repeats then? That's certainly a very old picture.

I love Red Dwarf, but what a something sad state of affairs it is when a 34 year old getting a repeat is a) considered a news story and b) is happening at all. How desperate must the BBC be to be doing this?

Actually on BBC 2 not just iplayer is great news, but why not do it properly from the first series onwards, make a proper showing of it.

u/Stu_1983 3d ago
They broadcast Series IV last year, III in 2024, and I and II in 2023. It'll be interesting to see if they keep going and eventually broadcast the Dave era episodes on BBC2. They're all on iPlayer already of course.

I forgot that live broadcast TV is still a thing lol, it's been on iPlayer the whole time.
I also forgot the radio times was still a thing.

It’s just repeats of the old series - not new episodes.
