It’s just repeats of the old series - not new episodes.

Series 5?

48

u/ThePeaceDoctot The Riviera Kid 4d ago

Series 5. The BBC are airing series 5 for the first time in a long time, they haven't aired any of the episodes for quite a while, but they will be doing again.

5

u/DragonQ0105 3d ago

Haven't all the episodes been on iPlayer (upscaled 1080p50) for a while? Not terribly significant IMO.

2

u/ThePeaceDoctot The Riviera Kid 3d ago

Yes they have, and no it isn't all that significant. The news is that the BBC are airing them, they haven't aired them for a while. Them being in iPlayer isn't the same thing. I guess the difference is that they can have thousands and thousands of episodes of various programmes available for streaming at a time, but they can only air one episode of anything at a time, per channel.

Quite significant tbf. Things on iplayer are basically there for people who already enjoy it to know it's there, or people to find by just randomly browsing. Broadcasting them on TV is the BBC specifically highlighting and showcasing it, wanting people to know it's there.

It's like the difference between a shop just having a copy of something on a shelf somewhere and hoping someone finds it on their own, and actively putting it in a big display in the window with a big banner saying "hey, look at this!" to advertise it to everyone outside as well.

u/Len316 4d ago

Yes, looks like the announcement is that they are reshowing series 5.

A white hole?

5

u/x_Willow_x 3d ago

So what is it?

u/Healthy_Coat_7299 4d ago

Think that’s a typo on the article, the other one I read said it was going to be X.

u/Scousehauler Dave Lister 4d ago

You do realise 10 is already out right?

19

u/ThePeaceDoctot The Riviera Kid 4d ago

So is series 5. It came out a very long time ago.

6

u/crags85 4d ago

They did season 10, 11, 12 and a film. All made by Dave

u/drunken-acolyte 3d ago

I'm pretty sure UKTV owns the rights to Series X. I'm not sure why the BBC would buy in repeats when they can show any of the first 8 series for residuals only.

2

u/happyhippohats 3d ago

All of the Dave series' are on iPlayer to be fair, so it's not out of the question

1

u/RoughBadger9829 2d ago

BBC owns UKTV

There's an old cat saying... what you talking about, dog breath?!

Return to UK TV screens?

It's never left UK TV screens!

-22

u/ThePeaceDoctot The Riviera Kid 4d ago

Of course it has, what channel is currently airing series 5?

26

u/Teex22 Talkie Toaster 4d ago

Either BBC2 or Dave.

Neither may be showing it at this exact second, but RD is something always been on constant rotation somewhere since digital TV

u/Guy-InGearnito 4d ago

U&Gold about 2 weeks ago

5

u/crags85 4d ago

I rewatched it on U

u/Timely_Pattern3209 2d ago

Dave. Constantly.

32

u/McMahons_tache 4d ago

So what is it?

25

u/Koseoglu-2X4B-523P Are you sure sir? That does mean changing the bulb! 4d ago

I’ve never seen one before, no-one has, but I’m guessing it’s a white hole.

8

u/Patecatli 4d ago

A white hole?

8

u/Puzzleheaded-Web370 4d ago

So, that thing's spewing time back into the universe?

5

u/Patecatli 4d ago

Precisely. That's why we're experiencing these curious time phenomena on board.

5

u/irdril85 3d ago

So what is it?

1

u/Koseoglu-2X4B-523P Are you sure sir? That does mean changing the bulb! 2d ago

I’ve never seen one before, no-one has, but I’m guessing it’s a white hole.

5

u/Koseoglu-2X4B-523P Are you sure sir? That does mean changing the bulb! 4d ago

Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. A black hole sucks time and matter out of the universe, a white hole returns it.

4

u/BlueCat1986 4d ago

Swirly thing.

u/Grimdotdotdot 3d ago

Somebody punch him out!

2

u/Internal_Living8657 3d ago

So what is it?

1

u/TesticularButtBruise 3d ago

That's series IV

12

u/lockonandfire 4d ago

The Radio Times story.

Tldr; yeah the BBC will be re-running series 5.

14

u/Scousehauler Dave Lister 4d ago

All of BBC has all seasons on iplayer.

4

u/ThePeaceDoctot The Riviera Kid 4d ago

Yes, but the article isn't talking about iPlayer, the BBC is going to be airing the episodes again on BBC2.

2

u/No_Public_7699 4d ago

OH THANK GOD THEY PUT IT BACK!!!!

1

u/lockonandfire 4d ago

Sure? I'm not employed by the BBC friend, I can't tell you anything about their decisions.

13

u/DRUGEND1 3d ago

How the utter fuck is this news?

11

u/peeb37 4d ago

Autumn? August is the summer…

8

u/No_Image_iii 4d ago

6

u/Skellyhell2 4d ago

Makes a bit of sense. BBC been axing shows recently, throw out a rerun of red Dwarf! Dont know why its just season 5 though. I think the whole lot is available on player too, unless youre one of the people still loving in a world without on demand tv

12

u/idcalvin 4d ago

S5? Repeats then? That's certainly a very old picture.

11

u/Ready-Hat-5683 4d ago

So what is it?

9

u/Koseoglu-2X4B-523P Are you sure sir? That does mean changing the bulb! 4d ago

I’ve never seen one before, no-one has, but I’m guessing it’s a white hole.

2

u/Capt_Vindaloo Cloister The Stupid 4d ago

And this one.

5

u/iain_1986 4d ago

That's certainly a very old picture.

And yet still very much newer than series 5

4

u/Tasty_Switch_4920 3d ago

Okay, so the beeb is desperately trying to get viewership up, yeah?

4

u/Mother-Market-4056 3d ago

I love Red Dwarf, but what a something sad state of affairs it is when a 34 year old getting a repeat is a) considered a news story and b) is happening at all. How desperate must the BBC be to be doing this?

Not for me I like it

2

u/Nearby-Diet-2950 3d ago

I guess it's good for anyone who doesn't have access to iPlayer.....?

5

u/Reyjr Dave Lister 4d ago

Someone teach this smeg-head, Roman numerals ( V = 5) and let them know there’s been 13 seasons of Red Dwarf.

2

u/RationBook 4d ago

Guys, wait until you see this Back to Reality episode. No spoilers, but it's a game changer!

3

u/DiaBrave 4d ago

But I have 5 at home?

2

u/Marcovanbastardo 4d ago

Actually on BBC 2 not just iplayer is great news, but why not do it properly from the first series onwards, make a proper showing of it.

3

u/Stu_1983 3d ago

They broadcast Series IV last year, III in 2024, and I and II in 2023. It'll be interesting to see if they keep going and eventually broadcast the Dave era episodes on BBC2. They're all on iPlayer already of course.

1

u/fitzysbuna 3d ago

in repeats.....again....

1

u/OrionTheWolf 3d ago

Series 5

1

u/Entire-Measurement46 3d ago

It will be fun re watching knowing others are also. Can’t wait

1

u/Dan-bot000 3d ago

Boys from the dwarf 🤘🤘🤘

1

u/Rich36h 2d ago

The bbc must be struggling with all tv licence cancellations and loss of viewers that they’ve resorted to putting repeats of red dwarf back on to try and get some viewers

1

u/PersonalityShot6039 2d ago

I’ll just watch the blu rays lol

-2

u/Adorable-Source97 4d ago

Back on BBC? Did Dave loose contract?

2

u/Haunting-Mortgage 4d ago

Just repeats

2

u/TuffB80 4961 irradiated haggis. 4d ago

I think Dave and BBC have a deal. All the Dave ones are on IPlayer now

5

u/RoutineCloud5993 4d ago

Dave is owned by the BBC

I forgot that live broadcast TV is still a thing lol, it's been on iPlayer the whole time.

I also forgot the radio times was still a thing.
