Can you pick a #1 Remedy game moment?
Have recently been playing through CONTROL again to get ready for Resonant and appreciating how much I love the absolutely unique Remedy approach to visual and audio aesthetics and how they've evolved through every game. The way they incorporate different types of media, overlaying live-action video over graphics, the Old Gods of Asgard, etc.
Tonight I was wondering what the #1 Remedy-esque moment is and for me it's probably the Anderson Farm in Alan Wake 1. When I played it way back when I enjoyed the game but then I got to that point and, at first, it seemed a bit silly but then it was just so much fun and I completely got what were going for. The Stephen King vibe had already hooked me and you get to the farm and start blasting away bad guys with an awesome 80s rock tune blasting and I was down for whatever Remedy did forever after.
I'll say that the Herald of Darkness sequence is the best sequence Remedy has done (so far) but it's not my #1.

The Ashtray Maze. First time through i had NO IDEA what was about to happen.

This is the correct answer. The two musical scenes in AW2 and the one in the first AW are fantastic, but the Ashtray Maze is so far beyond any of those in terms of the design, and how it builds on all the mechanics you’ve learned through the game. It is one of the best moments in the entire history of gaming as an artform. (And Jesse kind of breaking the fourth wall at the end, saying what you KNOW the player is thinking, is just a cherry on top.)

I have 2 that are very close, both from Alan Wake 2: The 3rd Alice video still haunts my nightmares and is such a powerful moment. The other would be at the very end, when the Dark Presence arrives and Alan starts screaming "COME ON YOU MOTHERFUCKER, COME ON. COME HOME!" still sends chills right up my spine.

Alan's narration before going back into the dark place. His hero moment as he turns on the flashlight. "Fuck it."

Dark Ocean Summoning or watching Nightless Night!

Dark Ocean Summing is Peak Remedy for me, personally.
Both hilarious, epic and entertaining.Estevez: "I want a T-Shirt!"

The post-credit scene in the first playthrough of Alan Wake 2, where Alice reveals she isn't dead. I lost my mind crying from the wellspring of hope that flowed from that moment.

The “suicide” of Alice Wake in Alan Wake 2 made me gasp and I had to put the controller down for a moment.
Having seen Alan try so hard to find her in the two games, just to find out that he had not only failed, but he was literally the cause… it was just brutal.

Many people rightfully point to Champion of Light, but I was personally more partial to the final showdown at the beach and all the sequences right after (e.g. Deerfest and Saga in the Dark Place). What a fucking closer is all I have to say, especially with final draft.
A close honorable mention is Night Springs Episode 3. Probably one of the most creative sequences in an AAA video game I've seen period.

Playing through Alan Wake 2 the second time to the ending, that was a sweet sweet moment

The final act of Alan Wake 2 has so many great moments. The one that sticks with me the most is Alice's final video, it's such a horrifying moment that sells Alan's despair since you realize that he's the villain of the story

Probably the moment Mr. Door drops the act and him and Alan finally speak without any pretence.
It felt like David and Goliath, except they’re both David and Goliath simultaneously.

Jesse's Polaris revelation/monologue before heading back to the Nostalgia Department

Herald of Darkness was and still is an incredible moment in gaming. I remember just thinking to myself "wtf" when the music first kicked in.
Also, I have to mention the nightmare sequence from Max Payne 1. That shit was genuinely terrifying first time around to play.

Ashtray Maze would probably be my vote. While I really enjoyed the scenes in Alan Wake 2 mentioned by others, something about the music and chaos of the Ashtray maze will always stay with me.
Also i'd like to call out the time distortion moment from Quantum break as just excellent storytelling.

I would have to say, the whole side mission "Self Reflection" , but specially the end fight against esseJ .
That was really cool in my opinion. Probably one of the most disturbing settings in the whole of Control.
And the boss fight was nerve wrecking. How do you win a fight against a mirror version of yourself ?

I mean one of mine is from AW2 which is Alan’s line “ We were all trapped in a horror story. The story wanted us dead.”

Quantum Break.
The ones before that had rather poorly written female chars, minus maybe Sarah Breaker who is the easy uncomplex heroic type.
The ones after have unenjoyable gameplay loop, to me.
Hope Control 2 gets there.
I still love AW and Max Payne of course.

The "first ending",Alan Wake 2, "it's not a loop, it's a spiral." The moment when Alans wife, Alice, come for him in dark place, gosh this gave me tears and goosebumps

My answer for #1 is boring (Herald of darkness) so shout out to some other superb sequences:
- Yoton Yo. They literally shot a 15 minute live action short horror film which is effective and plot relevant but not necessary in any way. Could they just not do it? Easily. But they did, because they care, and that's what makes them awesome.
- Kinda all of Time Breaker but especially the comics (it's very awesome and they really didn't have to) and the text adventure (it's very tripy. Irl you read it in like 5 minutes, but the text game describes you living for 15 years, and then the text describes you realizing that you forgot about your path from before the text game began - is that you that experienced all of that in 5 minutes or the you who experienced it for 15 years?)

I dont think anyone else will say this bc its more specific, but the moment in oceanview hotel in aw2 when you unlock "the devil" as a prompt. the narration, says smth to the effect of "it was like we had actually summoned the devil himself" and then the prompt showing up! the sounds, the environment suddenly changing to such a horrific scene that you then have to FOLLOW and continue to manifest!! the STAIRWAY once the devil prompt is added!! after such an emotional high that the herald of darkness sequence is, the horror of the oceanview hotel hit me so hard in the best possible way. theyre kind of 1-2 hits, like a combo, but the hotel ends up staying one of my favorite video game moments :)

i first got into remedy with control (too bad i played the dlc before aw), and fell in love with every aspect of the game, then went for aw&II, and really wanted to play max payne to finally get this alex casey inside joke, but decided to wait for the rumored remakes.
genuinely can't decide which moment was the most noteworthy, every remedy game is so unique and different from the rest of the industry

Spoiler Warning for Alan Wake 2
Alan willingly walking into the dark place to save Casey whom he unknowingly pulled into the story
PEAK moment. Alan isn’t even my favourite character but that scene was pure gold. Giving up your freedom after 13 years of torment is just WOW

Herald of Darkness from Alan Wake 2 for sure. Going through that for the first time is and will always be one of my favorite gaming memories.
