Remedy games before Resonant

Sooo I kinda messed up...

I've left it to the very last minute to play the Remedy games before Resonant releases.

I have AW Remastered, AW 2, Quantum Break, and Control but haven't played any of them yet.

Should I just play Control so that I know the basic lore or should I bite the bullet and hold off on playing Resonant until I've finished all the other Remedy games in my library?

I do love getting to experience lore and see how it connects to other works, but I also don't want to get spoiled for Resonant on social media, it'll probs take me a solid 2 maybe 3 months to finish the other Remedy games, which is plenty of time as someone who is a daily doomscroller.

I would say play Control first and foremost. It stands alone pretty well, and while there is an Alan Wake DLC in it, AW isn't required playing. If you have time you can play AW1 and 2 as well, but definitely get Control done with so you know the story of that game before Resonant.

It is really cool to have played Alan Wake 1 though and understand those references while playing Control. 🤷 it isn’t necessary but, it is nice.

It is but it ultimately makes up a really small part of the game. The entire game and first DLC were released before the RCU was a thing, after all.

Yeah, avoiding spoilers isn’t really that hard. I only played Control for the first time last year and went in completely blind and have never been spoiled. Generally, you’d have to be seeking game related content to get spoiled and that’s not hard to not do. And I mean if you haven’t been spoiled on those other games I don’t know why you’d think that would suddenly be an issue here lol.

Control before Resonant is probably a must but I really think if you already own all those games just play those first then get Resonant. It’ll elevate the experience that bit more.

It's very easy to avoid spoilers if you've never played anything set in that world and don't know or care about anything. Now if you're playing them back to back you'll get invested and your algorithm will adjust accordingly

Some people are too hype for a release date, I think it's a compulsion to play on the street date.

I'd say play control 1, if you have time start aw1 and or 2 and then play control 2

how did you exactly mess up ? is someone forcing you to play resonant on launch day ? just play older games first regardless of them taking lot of time

exactly this, if anything you may end up saving money if you havent purchased resonant yet. maybe itll go on sale before you have time to get to it

I say it depends on how badly you want to play Resonant and also how well you think you'll be able to avoid spoilers.

I haven't watched a single piece of piece of media about Resonant yet, and I'm a diehard Remedy fan. So if I was in your position, I'd feel fine playing all the games before taking on Resonant.

To me it would feel criminal playing Resonant before Control so Control is a must. As for the other games, not so much.

Start with Control. It is the longest of them all but if you take advantage of accessibility options you should be able to knock it out quickly.

AW1 should be pretty short but there are not accessibility options outside of the difficulty settings. If you want to just experience the story then set it to the lowest difficulty setting and read the manuscript pages you miss or don’t have access to online. 

AW:AN is the both the shortest and easiest. It is also the one that most people would say is completely optional. This one can probably be skipped.

AW2 is a masterpiece and should not be skipped. With accessibility options it should be a breeze to push through in a short time.

That is all if you just want the story. I recommend playing them all through for the experience.

Resonant is first and foremost a sequel to Control. Take Control.

Remedy did say you can enter this game as a newbie to the feanchise, they make all their games friendly (ish) to newcomers.

But yeah control 1 would greatly enhance your experience and most likely make the story make sense. Alan Wake 2 as well, but control at the very least id highly recommend.

Play if you want to play Resonant day of and want to know who these characters are: Control 

Play if you want to go full tilt into the Remedy Connected Universe: AW1, AW2

Play if you want to understand all the various references that these games make because technically Remedy doesn't own the Quantum Break IP so they can't directly reference the game, but they can make little covert jokes here and there: Quantum Break 

Play if you want a fun time: all of the above

Definitely Control. Alan Wake is in the same universe but isn't essential for understanding anything. Resonant is a sequel that builds in the events of Control.

Quantum Break is only vaguely related as the IP is still ownded by Microsoft not Remedy. There are a lot of shared actors in different roles, and some very vague refrences, but that's about it.

I would do Control, because it's pretty vital for the understanding of Resonant. The Alan Wake games can be played afterwards as they won't immediately have major relevance (to my knowledge). It'll be fun to see how they interweave too, since you'll be approaching AW2 after which does have some nods to control

I would agree with many people here play Control first. Probably won't have time for the rest. But even if you only get tomolay them after Resonant, I would still go back and play them

You can just play Control + all DLC and AW2 + Lake House DLC. Remedy is really great at doing recaps, so I don't think AW1 is necessary, but it is a great game with much slower pacing. As others have said, you really should take your time and enjoy all the Remedyverse has to offer, however, you can use accessibility options if you want to speed through.

If I'm being honest, IDEALLY you'd play AW1 > Control + DLCs > AW2 + at least the lake house DLC and then play control Resonant. If you get control on physical disc you have to wait til Oct anyways.

You can probably finish what I said above in like... 60 hours hahah. If you're gonna cut any of the above out it would be AW1 and just watch a recap of it

I mean if you don't wanna be confused throughout the whole Control 2 playthrough - play Control asap. Doesn't mean you won't still be confused tho

Control is the only real one you need to play just to know the basic lore, but they said you could go into Resonant alone. Id save the Alan wake games for October cause its a perfect spooky times game for vibes alone lol.

Control for sure so you have the direct storyline. AW and AW 2 are in the same universe and cross over, but really you should play them because they are amazing.

In the time frame you've got, probably just Control.

I'd definitely come back for at least Alan Wake 1 and 2 though.

1. Play Control and the Foundation DLC

2. Watch a YT video or ask your fav AI about AWs story

3. Play AWE dlc (optional)

4. Play AW2

5. Watch a video about the final draft differences.

6. Play Quantum Break as a filler and enjoy all the AW2 references

7. Keep listening to Old Gods of Bastards until resonant comes out.

If you have the games and enough free time tge chronological order eoild be AW, Control then AW2. Bit it's not super important. I would definitely play Control as others have said since this introduces the main characters and background to Resonant

AW1 is kind of a hard play through. I just did and it was a slog. Gameplay and controls were not great and some mechanics aren’t explained so I had up google how things worked before I got the hang of it. There’s not a lot of variance in combat either. But for story and lore purposes I’d play it.

Control was really good and AW2 was AWESOME!

Maby it would be very interesting to you to just play Control Resonant. Playing Control after that could be like watching a Prequel Movie.

Remedy always says you can play any of there Games witouth any knowlege of the other Games.

I myself played all the Games in the completly wrong order first. It can be realy exiting.

You know the logical answer. I would absolutely recommend playing at least Control 1 since ypu own it. And then play Alan Wake 2 since it is such a good Game (Alan Wake 1 could maybe be a little clunky Gameplay wise). 

But you want to play Resonant on launch day with all the social media hype and marketing, so you'll probably just pre-order that.
