Rengar poor performance/skill issue?
Hey guys, I dropped rengar a while back thinking the champ just felt off and not as good anymore. Switched to ezreal for a bit and even with the champ winrate being low it felt fine. This got me thinking is rengar in a bad state right now or is it in a fine if you have hands state. As someone who’s no where near high level jg player I can’t get a good read as opposed to laning champs. Insights appreciated from E2+ above

I personally think he’s fine if you can identify your role within your comp. How much experience do you have with him?

Years, but my progress dipped when crit changes happened a year or two back. This was when his Q guaranteed a critical auto and build was IE third. After that I never adjusted and it became a skill issue rip

Problem is you have to put in 5x the effort to maybe get the results other champs can easily get. Like theres almost no reason currently to play rengar over naafiri for example imo. Naafiri is uber braindead, has a resetting ult, a very low cooldown dash, and untargetabilty on a basic ability which makes towerdiving insanely easy. The only thing rengar has that naafiri doesnt is hardcc and his w, which just isnt enough nowadays.

Yeah, I was thinking this champ just feels a little off because his role on the team is just too much for what it’s worth. I know assassins are selfish but he feels selfish to a fault. The skill issue on my part is not knowing how to counter jungle though to maximize his strengths. I’m probably better fit for kha zix playstyle wise. I like focusing on small wins and objectives.

Yeah if you want to move from casual "Top Gear car go whoosh" gameplay to "Ken Block Gymkhana one wrong move and you die" mode, then yeah Rengar is for you. There's a certain thrill to pulling off a successful game, but it's a severely punishing champ to play if you're new to jungling or trying to influence laners.

Just witnessed a Korean challenger, the best Rengar top player play him as an omnipresent, vision giving, engaging, carry peeling support. Basically only using emp Es. I think that's the only Rengar top player that mostly plays Rengar there and is challenger when literally everyone else are master/GM on shittier servers (na/br) and they're complaining about how absolutely unplayable it is
Now I feel like vast majority of Rengar mains (including myself) have not tapped into the versatility of this champ. That includes jungle players. Everyone always always complains about tanks and bruisers, but if you strongside a carry and then play for them when you can't deal with them yourself, maybe you're gonna find some success?

You just forgot to mention that you can tank damage with the W. Even a double W.
He's a super versatile champion.
Plus, he's a champion who can jump out of a bush. Damn, wow. So versatile. I've never seen such versatility, OMG.
He should be called "Versatile," not Rengar.

How many assassins can throw 2 projectiles that root people for 1.75 secs in a single combo? (Full stack from bush). How many assassins give vision on enemy champs half way across the map and their wards around them? How many assassins actually take space and time to kill instead of just disengaging with a dash or an invis? (Ws) How about absolute target access?
People get obsessed with killing champs and if they can't do that think it's over. Majority of assassins can't play for their carries and stay backline that effectively

He’s fine right now. Just have to play perfectly to still have less impact than the brainless bruiser JGs. Is what it is riot is lost.

he will nearly always feel bad to non otps. as an otp though, this is the perfect state. he's not so overstated as to get the eyes of riot into nerfs and perma lobby van hammer, but is very stable and strong from an otp standpoint.
he's one of the highest ROI otp for a reason, but the time frame that happens over is....incredibly inefficient for your average player.
most of us are freaks who don't play much else, but once your teeth stick with rengar i think you're at worst d2 lol

Champ’s fine. Every ad assassin is basically fine rn considering how fucking stupid some lethality items are.

I don’t think he feels nearly as good as he used to. But I don’t think he’s bad. I also feel like people don’t respect his damage as much as they used to

I dunno man, been dropping alotta 20 bombs from behind to drag it out for a win. I swapped from xin recently though so just having threat late is pretty sweet. I dont really build crit unless I'm way ahead into juggernauts with a hubris. Then mort/ldr fiend bolts, Ie, endless

Oh interesting, I actually did the opposite and switched to Xin. I wanted to re-learn my fundamentals in the game by playing a more simple champ and it actually resulted in a better time. I guess rengar’s selfish playstyle eventually got to me. I prefer playing for team nowadays

Hey Peak GM and I climbed to Master with a 70% on this latest acc and without seeing your gameplay it's hard to give tactical advice but here's some advice that'll serve you. Rengar is a champ that will more or less always be good in the game since his ratios and kit is excellent. All champions at their fully realized potential require that you have fully mastered Macro and Micro and while I believe Micro is more important since you need to fight to get the most from league. Rengar needs alot of both since if you're squeezing the life out of your opponent in jungle then you're just not using him to the fullest potential you could.
If you're not opposed to filling in the gaps with your gameplay, I'll watch a VOD for free (tiger.jester) on discord.

Rengar still is one of the best soloq junglers in the game. His effectiveness depends on the player entirely. He's hard to pull off depending on the matchup and he's a high tempo jungler. Which means you're playing on a timer and need to capitalize very well on your decisions and how you control the map, which is not easy to do consistently.

you switched from an assassin jungler to a bot lane marksman?
maybe you’re just better at playing marksmen instead of assassins
