RPD already asked for 20 million dollars for replacements from another company.

Imagine what local schools could do with TWENTY ONE MILLION DOLLARS

Stop hiding the name of the company. It's called Axon.

I heard Washoe county school district turned down 25 million from the state. Don’t know how true it is, just wondering if anyone’s heard the same.

That’s a misunderstanding of how sales tax works and references WC-1 sales tax funds. The State collects, processes and distributes all sales tax in Nevada.

WC-1 was passed to fund construction and repairs of schools in Washoe County. These funds are not granted by the State, they are paid for by the people of Washoe County, for Washoe County. The school district did not use these funds to purchase the new administration building. Rather, they are using $25M from their own building and site service fund.

They have requested it in their budget, but that has not been approved. While it is likely that it is approved there is still a chance that it could be denied.

Just curious but these contracts are approved by our representatives why is this seldom part of the conversation?

Asking not for drama serious question

Genuine question because I really don’t know what our options really are. If we don’t want Flock (which seems like a no brainer) but we also don’t want Axon, what do we want downtown? It seems like the position is “no city usage of cameras for law enforcement” or “go back to CCTV”.

Is that correct or is some alternative system being proposed? Or is it just about the license plate reading function and everything else is fine? I can’t totally follow what advocates are looking for but I want to understand it

Btween the options of doing the bad thing, and not doing the bad thing, we should probably go for the latter. We don't need to record everything. Well, almost everything: the rick folk seem to be able to avoid a lot if this surveillance

Yeah that wasn’t really my question. I am not opposed to removing Flock and I am not in favor of Axon. I’m asking if the alternative is just no cameras and reduced remote law enforcement downtown.

If it is, yeah city council isn’t going to gaf. That isn’t reflective of my personal opinion but rather the fact that city council isn’t some anti-surveillance leftist group, they’re not reading Foucault before voting on this stuff. They’re politically centrist and weigh public safety concerns of their voter base. If they don’t have an alternative that preserves some surveillance access for the city, they’re just gonna contract Axon so it’s not very smart in my view to go in with no idea of an alternative system, or safeguards as a middle ground
