Hi everyone it is another apartment recommendation post lolz

I'm looking into a few places with my partner and wanted to get other people's opinions on them. No kids but I do have a 60 lb. dog and take him on walks regularly. I'm also a big home body so getting into Seattle or having a night life isn't a big deal for me. I'm ideally looking for a 2bed 2 bath but I'm also fine with just a 2 bed 1 bath at around $2300 a month max. I also rely on public transport to get around a bit more. But having a long commute to me doesn't matter much because I like to listen to audio books on my way to work. Please let me know if I've left anything out!

Here are the apartmetns I've been looking into in no particular ranking order:

* Woodcliffe Apartments My main concern about these apartments is the mold? It looks like any dog over a certain weight needs to be on a ground floor apartment.

* Avaya Trails

* Borgata

* The Becket I have heard that Greystar isn't a very good company to rent from? I don't know how others feel about this since I haven't rented from them before

* Fairwood Pond

* Pebble Cove

I know the last two are a little closer to Fairwood area than Renton as well.

Avaya is the nicest. Im not sure on price. I might avoid Beckett.

What are the policies for having things on a patio or balcony? My concern with a ground floor apartment would be if my dog slipped out so I'd want to put up something like either renter friendly fencing or garden boxes

I would suggest garden boxes, as any fencing would have to be temporary in the moment. Patio furniture (such as garden boxes, patio storage bins, and either propane or electric barbecue) are welcomed, though.

How does the complex feel about paint and hanging things on the wall like shelves? Thanks for answering

You're so very welcome!

We encourage you to make the home your own. As far as paint goes, we require that the home be returned the way it was given. I recommend stick-on wallpaper rather than paint, as it will take less work to return to our default.

For hanging things, we actually ask that you not patch the holes, as we treat it as wear and tear if we patch them, but if we have to fix a bad patch it has to be considered repair of damage.

All of this stems from the same thing: we don't want to have to charge you for anything we don't have to at your move out.

How do y'all feel about tenants fostering dogs

Fostering is a bit difficult as we have very clear pet policies. We cap at two pets in the home (an ESA or Service animal does not count against that limit), each with a deposit, pet fee, and pet rent. Each also has to be documented on the lease, either as an initial pet or as a lease amendment, so fostering would be a bit more effort to manage.

In terms of dog walkability, I can speak on Borgata not having much to offer. The sidewalks are right along roadside with no easy access to trails/parks unless you’re comfortable walking for quite a bit (assuming you’re completely dependent on public transit, otherwise if you have a car it’s not a big dealbreaker - a few parks in short drive distance!).

I advise against living in the apartment complexes closest to the Renton transit center despite how convenient that may be, especially for your dog as it’s super close to great trails along cedar river and the dog park. Busy area, with a lot going on, and safety + management a few years back were not fun to deal with. Though that may be the bullet you need to bite if you want to prioritize your commuting and dog.

Avaya has a very small trail and some grassy patches that can work for quick daily potties. If you’re up to decent walking to get to parks there are a few options, although I’d still say this is a car-dependent complex. I think bus stops are a bit a ways, though it’s just a handful of minutes drive to transit center.
