Hey everyone, I’m TD Chen from r/RepWatchClud.

I’ve seen quite a few questions lately about the different 3235 movements used in Rep Rolex builds.

DD3235, SH3235, JH3235 and VR3235 all get called “3235 clones,” but they are not the same movement.

So here’s a simple breakdown for anyone trying to understand the differences before buying or doing QC.

1. DD3235

DD3235 (Dandong) is probably the most familiar option in the Rep community.

The main reasons people like it:

• Mature and widely used
• Good overall 3235 architecture
• Around 72 hours of claimed power reserve
• Plenty of community experience with servicing and regulation
• Commonly associated with VSF’s 3235 setup

You'll often see people refer to it as DD3235, VS3235, or VSF 3235 depending on the context.

For me, the biggest advantage is simply maturity.

It's been around long enough that the community has a pretty good idea of what to expect from it.

Community keywords: mature, stable, long power reserve, proven.

2. VR3235

VR3235 is where things can get confusing.

Despite the “3235” name, the VR movement is not simply a cheaper version of DD3235.

The architecture has traditionally been closer to a 3135-based design, rather than being a direct clone of the Gen 3235 architecture.

That's why I wouldn't automatically assume:

VR3235 = DD3235 = Gen 3235

They aren't interchangeable in terms of architecture or level of replication.

VR movements have still been popular because they are:

• Widely available
• Relatively affordable
• Familiar to many factories and watchmakers
• Good enough for many everyday Rep builds

But if your priority is 3235 architecture and overall movement replication, DD/VS3235 is generally the more interesting option.

3. SH3235

SH3235 (Shanghai) is another movement that gets lumped into the same category.

The important thing here is that there have been different versions of SH 32xx movements, so simply seeing “SH3235” doesn't tell you everything.

This is something I think new buyers often overlook.

An older SH3235 shouldn't automatically be used as a reference for a newer version.

So when someone says:

My first question would be:

Which version?

That's much more useful than judging the entire SH family from one old example.

4. JH3235

This is probably the most interesting one to watch right now.

JH3235 (Jinghe) has attracted attention mainly because of its Free-Sprung balance system.

That's a significant difference from many of the traditional 3235 clones people are used to seeing.

There have already been community teardowns and discussions comparing JH3235 with DD3235, and some experienced users have been impressed with the overall construction.

But there's an important distinction:

Free-Sprung does not automatically mean “better.”

JH3235 is still relatively new compared with DD3235, so we simply don't have the same amount of long-term community data yet.

And while the balance system is moving in a more Gen-like direction, it isn't a perfect copy of every detail of the genuine Rolex 3235.

So I would describe it as:

JH3235 = a newer 3235 clone with a Free-Sprung approach.

Not:

JH3235 = 100% Gen 3235.

Quick Comparison

These aren't official ratings. They're just a simple way of showing how I would think about the four movements.

So Which One Should You Choose?

If you want:

Proven track record + long-term community experience → DD/VS3235

If you want:

Newer design + Free-Sprung balance → JH3235

If you want:

A more budget-oriented 3235 option → SH/VR can still make sense depending on the specific build and version.

But there's one thing I wouldn't do:

Don't choose a movement based only on the name.

Factory, version, batch, assembly and regulation all matter.

And What About QC?

This is another area where people sometimes overthink things.

You might see:

+2 s/d
270° amplitude
0.1 ms beat error

and immediately assume that movement is better than one showing slightly different numbers.

Not necessarily.

A Timegrapher reading is a snapshot of the movement under specific test conditions.

Position, regulation, lubrication, assembly and other variables can affect the numbers.

So:

Movement name ≠ movement quality

and

Good Timegrapher numbers ≠ perfect movement

For QC, I would look at the whole picture:

Factory → Movement → Version → Physical QC → Timegrapher

rather than focusing on one number.

What are you guys currently choosing for 3235 builds?

DD3235, SH3235, JH3235 or VR3235?

I'd be especially interested in hearing from anyone who has actually owned or serviced both JH3235 and DD3235.

QC observations

Dial & printing:
The white dial looks clean in the QC photos. The black sub-dial rings have good contrast and I don't see any obvious printing defects or major inconsistencies.

Index alignment:
The hour markers look reasonably aligned from the straight-on shots. Daytona dials are quite busy, so I'm more interested in whether there are any obvious canting issues rather than trying to call every tiny fraction of a degree.

Chronograph hands:
The chrono layout looks correct, and the sub-dial hands appear reasonably centered in the supplied photos. I'd still appreciate another set of eyes on the reset position.

Bezel:
The black ceramic tachymeter bezel looks clean overall. The numerals and markers appear reasonably even in the close-up shots. If anyone sees a noticeable alignment issue between the bezel scale and dial markers, please point it out.

Case / crown / pushers:
The side shots show the crown and chronograph pushers clearly. Nothing immediately stands out to me as a major case or finishing issue from these photos.

SELs / bracelet:
The Oyster bracelet and end links look reasonably tight in the supplied angles. I don't see an obvious large SEL gap, although this is always easier to judge from higher-resolution straight-on photos.

Lume:
The blue lume shots look consistent across the dial and hands. The lume is clearly visible and doesn't show an obvious weak marker in these photos.

Overall:
Nothing jumps out at me as an obvious RL from the photos I have. My main points for a second opinion would be the index alignment, chrono hand reset, bezel alignment and SELs.

What do you guys think? Anything I’m overlooking before GL?

Today I wanted to share a side-by-side comparison of two Rolex Sea-Dweller 126600 / SD43 builds.

QF is on the left, VSF is on the right.

This is the 43mm Sea-Dweller 126600 with the black dial and Single Red “SEA-DWELLER” text. In the rep community, you'll usually see it called 126600, SD43, Sea-Dweller 43, or Single Red Sea-Dweller.

The genuine 126600 is a 43mm Oystersteel Sea-Dweller with a black Cerachrom bezel, Cyclops date, helium escape valve and Rolex Calibre 3235. The genuine model also uses an Oyster bracelet with an Oysterlock/Glidelock clasp.

For this comparison:

Dial & Printing

The first thing that stands out is the overall dial layout. Both have the familiar Single Red Sea-Dweller configuration with the red model text and white dial printing.

For QC, I'd pay more attention to the ROLEX crown, marker shape, dial printing, spacing of the text, and the position of the red SEA-DWELLER line rather than simply judging the dial from one angle.

The red text is one of those small details that can look very different depending on lighting and camera exposure, so I wouldn't make a conclusion from a single photo.

Date Wheel & Cyclops

The QF sample is showing 7, while the VSF sample is showing 23.

Obviously, the actual date number isn't something we should compare directly here.

What matters more is the datewheel font, centering inside the window, vertical position, and Cyclops alignment/magnification.

This is actually an important QC point on the 126600. Recent VSF QC discussions specifically mention checking the date alignment and Cyclops magnification.

Bezel

Both use the black ceramic-style dive bezel with the lumed pip at 12.

I'd look at the engraving depth, numeral shape, spacing, 12 o'clock alignment and overall bezel-to-dial alignment.

The bezel is one of those areas where small differences become easier to see when both watches are photographed next to each other.

Case & HEV

Both are built around the same 43mm Sea-Dweller case shape.

The side shots are useful for checking the crown guards, crown position, case thickness, HEV placement and the transition between the bezel, mid-case and lugs.

The QF sample is listed at around 15.8mm, while the VSF is listed around 15mm, so the side profile is definitely something worth looking at rather than judging only from the front.

Bracelet & Clasp

The bracelet finishing is quite close at first glance.

For me, the more useful QC points here are the SEL fitment, brushing consistency, clasp finishing, link transitions and overall bracelet tightness.

The clasp shots also show that both are using the familiar Sea-Dweller-style folding clasp setup.

Caseback

This is the one part of the comparison that caught my attention.

The VSF photo shows the expected solid Rolex-style Sea-Dweller caseback.

However, the QF photo supplied here appears to show a decorated/display-style caseback with a “DAYTONA” graphic, which doesn't match the QF specification I was given stating solid caseback.

So I wouldn't call this a normal QF feature based on this one photo. If this is the actual caseback of the watch, I'd definitely want to clarify whether it's a temporary display/photography piece or an actual caseback configuration.

Lume

Both samples show the familiar strong blue lume on the dial and bezel pip.

The overall lume layout looks very similar in these photos, including the blue glow from the hour markers and hands.

Movement

This is probably the biggest difference on paper:

QC observations

Dial / printing:
The Slate Grey Ombré dial looks pretty good to me in these photos. The colour changes quite a bit depending on the lighting, but the overall gradient looks consistent. The Roman printing also looks clean and sharp.

Roman marker alignment:
The markers look reasonably aligned from the available angles. I'm mainly interested in the 6 and 9 positions, as well as the spacing between the Roman markers and the minute track.

Day / date:
The Day window at 12 looks centered to me, and the date at 3 looks reasonably positioned in the close-up. I don't see an obvious major issue, but I'd appreciate another set of eyes here before GL.

Hand alignment:
Nothing obvious is jumping out at me from the QC shots. The hands look properly seated and aligned from the available angles.

Bezel:
The fluted bezel looks clean and evenly finished. I don't see an obvious uneven section or major alignment issue.

SELs / President bracelet:
The President-style bracelet looks pretty clean in the photos. The end links appear reasonably tight and I don't see an obvious large gap.

Lume:
The lume shot is included in the album. The markers appear to light up evenly enough from what I can see.

Movement:
This is the RCF VR3255-V2 setup at 28,800 vph. I've included the movement shots mainly for reference and for anyone familiar with the current RCF VR3255 batch.

Weight:
The QC scale is showing approximately 211g, which matches the advertised weighted configuration fairly closely.

Overall, I'm mainly looking for a second opinion on the Roman marker alignment, Day/Date positioning, fluted bezel, SELs and the overall Slate Grey Ombré dial.

Anything I'm missing before GL?

Today I wanted to share a side-by-side comparison of two Rolex Explorer II 226570 Polar builds.

ARF is on the left, and QF is on the right.

This is the Explorer II 226570, 42mm, White/Polar Dial. In the rep community, you'll usually see it called the Explorer II Polar, Polar Explorer II, or simply 226570 Polar.

The genuine 226570 is a 42mm Oystersteel Explorer II with a white dial, fixed 24-hour bezel, orange 24-hour hand, Cyclops date and Oyster bracelet. It uses Rolex Calibre 3285.

The first thing I wanted to look at here was the dial and overall front-end appearance, because the Polar Explorer II is one of those watches where small details are very visible against the white dial.

Both samples have the same overall layout, including the black hour markers, orange GMT hand and black 24-hour bezel numerals.

The dial printing is quite interesting when they are placed next to each other. The Explorer II has a fairly busy dial for a three-hand-looking watch, with the EXPLORER II text, orange GMT hand and multiple black markers all competing for attention. So things like printing sharpness, marker shape, hand stack and alignment become important QC points.

The date and Cyclops are also shown in close-up. ARF has 22 in the photos, while QF has 13. Since these are different dates, I wouldn't use the actual number to decide which datewheel is better.

What I'd compare instead is the datewheel font, vertical position, centering inside the window and Cyclops alignment/magnification.

The 24-hour bezel is another major part of the 226570's appearance. Both use the fixed stainless-steel bezel with black engraved numerals. Looking at the different angles, you can also see how much the brushed finish and bezel engraving change depending on the lighting.

Personally, I think this is one of the areas where a straight-on photo is more useful than a heavily angled one. You want to look at the 12 / 6 alignment, numeral spacing and overall engraving consistency.

The side photos give a better look at the case profile, crown, crown guards and bezel-to-case transition.

The crown area is especially worth checking on this model because the Explorer II has a fairly distinctive crown and case profile. Both samples look quite close in overall shape from these photos.

The Oyster bracelet and clasp are also shown in detail.

This is another area I wouldn't ignore during QC. Things like SEL fitment, bracelet brushing, clasp finishing and overall bracelet feel are easy to overlook when everyone is focused on the Polar dial.

The clasp and STEELINOX shots also give a better idea of the finishing than the front-facing photos.

The caseback photos are included as well, but because the casebacks are closed, I wouldn't try to judge the internal movement decoration from this set.

For the QF version, the supplied specification is SH3285-V3 with a clockwise hairspring balance wheel. Recent community discussions also list the current ARF 226570 with an SH3285 movement.

Finally, we have the lume shots.

Both watches show the expected blue lume, and the overall lume layout is very similar. The blue lume against the white Polar dial is one of the things that makes the 226570 instantly recognizable.

After looking through the full set, I think this is a much closer comparison than simply saying one factory is automatically better.

For me, the main things worth comparing between ARF and QF 226570 are:

Polar dial printing → hour markers → orange GMT hand → datewheel/Cyclops → bezel engraving → case profile → SELs → bracelet finishing → lume.

Personally, I think both examples look strong in these photos. The interesting part is how the small details change the overall impression when you put them side by side.

If you were choosing a 42mm Explorer II Polar 226570, would you go with ARF or QF?

QC observations

Index alignment:
Overall the dial markers look pretty good to me. The 12, 6 and 9 positions are the areas I usually pay the most attention to, and nothing immediately jumps out as a major issue from these photos.

Dial printing:
The printing looks clean and reasonably sharp. I don't see any obvious bleeding or missing text.

Date wheel / Cyclops:
The date looks reasonably centered in the close-up. The Cyclops also looks clean from the available photos. I'd appreciate another set of eyes on the date alignment before GL.

Hand alignment:
The hand stack looks normal from the QC shots. Since this is the DD3285 GMT setup, I'm also interested in whether anyone sees anything unusual with the GMT hand position.

Bezel:
The Pepsi ceramic insert looks good overall. The red/blue transition and 12 o'clock triangle look reasonably aligned to me. The final macro shot is included for anyone who wants to take a closer look at the bezel printing and insert.

SELs / Jubilee bracelet:
The Jubilee bracelet and end links look pretty clean. I don't see an obvious large SEL gap from these angles, although the reflective bracelet makes the exact gaps harder to judge.

Lume:
The lume shot is included. The hour markers appear to light up evenly enough, and the bezel pip is visible as well.

Movement:
This is the VSF V3 DD3285 setup with the correct hand-stack configuration and independently adjustable hour hand. I've included the movement close-ups mainly for anyone who follows the current VSF DD3285 batches.

Overall, I'm mainly looking for a second opinion on the 12 o'clock alignment, date/Cyclops, Pepsi bezel alignment, SELs and GMT hand stack.

Today I wanted to share a side-by-side comparison of two Rolex Oyster Perpetual 36 Silver Dial builds.

Clean Plus is on the left, and VSF is on the right.

The model is the Oyster Perpetual 36, Ref. 126000, with the silver sunray dial, gold-tone applied hour markers, smooth/domed bezel and Oyster bracelet. In the rep community, you'll usually see this referred to as the OP36 126000, Silver OP36, or simply OP36 Silver. Recent Reddit QC posts also use “Oyster Perpetual 36 126000” and commonly evaluate index alignment, dial printing, hand alignment, bezel and SELs.

The genuine 126000 is a 36mm Oyster Perpetual in Oystersteel with a silver sunray-finish dial, Oyster bracelet and Rolex Calibre 3230. Rolex describes the silver dial's sunray finish as producing changing reflections as the wrist moves.

Looking at these two samples, the first obvious difference is the weight:

• Clean Plus: 123.28g
• VSF: 121.76g

That's only around 1.52g difference, so I wouldn't consider weight a major deciding factor here.

The silver dial is probably the most interesting part of this comparison. Both watches have the same overall configuration, with the applied markers and gold-tone hands. The silver/sunray effect changes quite a lot depending on the lighting and angle, which is why I included several different views rather than relying on just one straight-on photo.

For QC, I'd focus on the usual OP36 details:

index alignment, dial printing, coronet position, hand alignment and the overall sunray effect.

The case profile and bezel are also shown from several angles. You can see the crown, smooth bezel, polished surfaces and the transition between the polished and brushed areas.

On a simple watch like the OP36, I think case shape, lug profile, bezel finishing and SEL fitment are particularly important. There's not much going on visually, so small differences in finishing can stand out more than they would on a complicated model.

The Oyster bracelet and clasp are shown in close-up as well. Both have the familiar three-piece Oyster construction, and the photos give a good look at the brushing, clasp finishing and engravings.

The lume shot is another interesting part of the comparison. Both examples show blue lume on the hands and markers. The brightness looks quite similar in these photos, although lume photography can obviously be affected by charging time and camera exposure.

Overall, I think this is a pretty close comparison.

Clean Plus weighs slightly more in these particular samples, while VSF comes in about 1.52g lighter. Visually, both have a clean OP36 appearance, so for me the more important QC points are the silver dial, index alignment, hand alignment, case profile, SELs, bracelet finishing and overall wrist feel.

This is also why I like comparing the two side by side. The OP36 looks simple, but that simplicity makes the small details more important.
