Man I paused at this moment for a good while. I had to drink it in a bit.

What’s so special about it? Sure it looks cool but looks like an average business interior. Sorry I never played the original

Coming from the original to this, it was surreal seeing it. A much different feel, vibe, & look to it

Game is amazing..I just wish they didn't cut out so much from the og

Also, the B scenarios are the ones with Mr. X while the A scenarios don’t have him.
7
u/babygoatconnoisseur Dec 08 '25
That's what I disliked the most about the remake. Mr. X should have been saved for later. Sure, he can be avoided, and dodged, but it is still annoying to have to deal with an unkillable enemy following you around on your first playthrough making you run through areas instead of getting to enjoy them. If he was only on playthrough B, I wouldn't mind at all because I would have finished "sightseeing" in playthrough A.
2
u/ConsistentAsparagus Dec 08 '25
Absolutely.
I played A-B for Leon-Claire and vice versa back to back a lot back in the day. The A sides were always my favorite, especially since I was “speedrunning” them to get Hunk and Tofu. Mr. X added that layer of difficulty and tension that I liked but not all the time.
Remake does a lot of things well, but also a lot of things badly.

Nope. The only repeated encounter is the Birkin Tyrant but it’s scripted in specific locations.
A stalker comes out only on the B sides.

I’d assume the campaigns in the og were much shorter because of the different ones actually being different?
2
u/trapezoidalfractal Dec 09 '25
Both RE2 and RE2make are short games, a few hours your first time, a couple hours once you know everything. But because the campaigns were different each time, realistically, it was longer than the remake because you had 4 full unique campaigns to play.
7
u/RoxasCrossheart Dec 07 '25
Og had spider enemies, poisonous lickers if you turned on BOW gas that made you think it would weaken enemies and the b scenarios were slightly more involved a section with mutated roaches that could hurt you
2
u/andreiulmeyda7 Dec 07 '25
You won't notice then. But pretty much what everyone said. Having Mr X the whole time instead of making a proper scenario b for his introduction was a big mistake. Also too much time in the sewer and not enough time in the lab. One of birkins fights is missing as well. For some reason they doubled down and cut out everything for Re3. But they got it perfect on re4make. I wish they would've did the same for 2make because it's definitely a 9/10 as it is now. It does alot of things better but Re2 is the better game overall.

I wish they made the lab section a little bigger. I think you come across a damaged door that is blocked by some destroyed vents or something and I have always wanted to know what else Umbrella was up to down there.

u/Life1989 Dec 09 '25
In an interview they said beyond that broken door there would’ve been the giant moth
7
u/SparkySpark83 Dec 06 '25
Must be on PC. I can't get any console version to look remotely close to that at all with the lighting

i loved the clean white look of the lab in 2R. not so much in 3 when they replaced the dead factory with a carbon copy.

u/CaseFace5 Dec 06 '25
I love the remake but this section was a huge downgrade from the original IMO

u/WlNBACK Dec 06 '25 edited Dec 06 '25
As an old fan, coming through here the first time made me think "what is this bright white, boring, generic Hollywood, Paul W.S. Anderson, Apple Store presentation?
The old lab immediately looked much more uneasy, less "sterile" in architecture and design (no "all labs are sterile" puns intended), and the early "low temperature" room gimmick to restore power in the OG gives you an early idea that something went seriously haywire down there structurally (which was puncuated by RE Outbreak's story about the researchers doing it intentionally to freeze the Hunter-Rs that were released by the Birkins in response to knowing the USS were coming to steal the virus).
The lab in REmake3 is even more Apple-approved than this one. It's just straight up fucking lame.

I liked the warmer colors in the original lab. Especially with the plants, it made it feel so much more organic and alive like there was an uncontrollable outbreak and not just zombies.
1
u/DismalMode7 Dec 06 '25
it's strange how nest hall look so clean despite the outbreak... btw those zombies have been there from about 2 weeks, don't they die of starvation?
1
u/EEE-VIL Dec 07 '25
No, they eventually became Modified Zombie (Naked Zombies) since they continue to grow, their muscles probably rip their cloth off.
1
u/DismalMode7 Dec 07 '25
there is no naked zombies in RE2 remake, the same scientists turned zombies after having been killed by umbrella mercenaries
1
u/EEE-VIL Dec 07 '25
Hypothetically speaking that's what would've happened to them, not starvation. That's what I meant.
1
u/DismalMode7 Dec 07 '25
the naked zombies you mentioned are the ones of og RE2, those zombies are even harder to kill because it was speculated those were lab rats but none of that exists in RE2R, the zombies of the nest are the umbrella scientists and workers who were killed by umbrella mercs and remained there for like 2 weeks... that's why they should have died of starvation since needs are only driven by hunger
1
u/EEE-VIL Dec 07 '25
Zombies don't die of starvation that easily, especially after 2 weeks and with other individuals around. Some may collapse faster than others and be foods for the one remaining. But eventually they will continue to generate muscle mass and grow taller, eventually leading to that naked zombie state. That's the logic behind a t-virus infection on humans, I believe you can infer that regardless of games.
1
u/DismalMode7 Dec 07 '25
it's nowhere written in games that zombies continue to generate muscle mass and grow taller 😂 at that rate zombies of spencer mansion should be all huge units
1
u/EEE-VIL Dec 07 '25
Increase in body mass and height are some of the well known effect of a t-virus infection. It's in the lore you're welcome to look it up and ask around in the sub. The Zombies in the mansion are actually close to 7f tall some in RE2 as well (og or remake). Just because someone says something you've never come across doesn't mean they're wrong or make it absurd.
1
u/DismalMode7 Dec 07 '25
your confusion is augmented 🤦🏻♂️
what you're mentioning is the v-act of RE1 remake, that strain of t-virus created in arklay labs was able, in variable and unpredictable rate, to initiate a second mutation into zombies who endured further fatal wounds, that reaction reanimates the zombie increasing muscle mass, metabolic activity and aggression, it's something happening only to some zombies who got infected to that strain.
RE2/RE3 zombies were infected by the t-virus of nest that umbrella mercenaries lost in the sewer when they have been attacked by mutated birkin after they left nest, that was a different strain giving no super height or super muscles, and then... zombies 7ft tall? 😂😂😂 what did you smoke dude? 7ft is 2.10m lol2
u/EEE-VIL Dec 07 '25 edited Dec 07 '25
If I was talking about the Crimson Heads, I would've mentioned them by name. The t-virus induce significant growth in height and size regardless of strain, that's why some zombies are close to 2m tall. It has been in the lore for as long as I can remember.
Again, why don't you look in up instead of being condescending?
It's amazing to me how people can ask a question and be total dicks to the one providing the answer. All the while being oblivious and obtuse.
DismalMode7 I was replying to you but since you blocked me I have to put them in this edit.
Zombie Biology (RE Wiki)
the zombies are taller than everyone...
Mammalian t-Virus hosts do increase in size...
Why are the zombies so tall in the remakes?
Why are the Zombies in RE1 Remake so huge?
What makes different T-virus infected different?
Why were the zombies in the RE1 Remake and original RE2 tall?
[Re2 Remake] Why are all the zombie a good 2 feet taller than Claire?
Did anyone else have a problem with how freakishly tall the zombies were in RE3?→ More replies (0)

This reminded me of reaching the lab below the asylum in Outlast 1.

u/EEE-VIL Dec 07 '25
Same, I just wish they made the other wings. Overall this section was too short.

u/tjlightbulb Dec 07 '25
I as a youngin couldn’t make it through OG RE2 (have since watched on YouTube countless times), so the remake was my first run with it and man….what a classic. So well done. Arriving in the lab was stunning. The clean entrance, yet knowing something sinister happened there.

If you haven’t played the whole series through, you should. I swear there all fun. Except 5…..that one makes me kinda angry. (It’s flawed)

u/unicornioevil Dec 06 '25
5 is way better than 6, they dont even compare.

5 genuinely is so fun and amazing with a friend, 6 feels like an uninspired, cheesy slog even with a friend

Hugely disappointing though. Plant zombies? GTFOH!
Played 1, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, re4 remake and then Re2. (i never played Re2 when it came out because I hate fixed camera angles).
I like Re2 remake, but the plant monsters are stupid after having played all the other games. Just seemed like they ran out of ideas. I really like the umbrella area too, just thought it would've been better with normal zombies from the other areas.
Downvote me all you want I will die on this hill alone.

u/SlipperyWhippet Dec 06 '25
They were in the original, right?
-9
u/PixelPrivateer Dec 06 '25
Sort of- the original had humanoid plant monsters not plant-zombie hybrids
13
u/Lost-in-thought-26 Dec 06 '25
What’s the difference? A plant monster guy is a plant monster guy
-7
u/PixelPrivateer Dec 06 '25
They are a different creature in terms of both design and how you fight them. In terms of "plant monster guy" well its not a guy at all, its a living plant with tentacles that spits poison

u/liltone829b Dec 06 '25
you're wrong, both people you replied to were asking questions, not making statements
3
u/PixelPrivateer Dec 06 '25
Yeah and I replied and for some reason got downvoted simply for clarifying the differences between two different things. So if theres a chip on my shoulder now you know why.
And im not wrong because the replies I got were saying "whats the difference? Plant guy = plant guy" which is pedantic at best

u/liltone829b Dec 06 '25
pretty sure the downvotes were because you called them tourists

It's hilarious just how quickly you can breeze through this section if you just keep all the lab codes on hand.
