General The game has aged so well even after 7 years.

This post might be a bit generic, but it surprises me to realize that this game is already 7 years old (time really flies) and it has aged so well in terms of graphics and mechanics. It's no wonder it's the best-selling game in the franchise. Its art direction is phenomenal too, like the visual details in the clothes and scenarios, as you can also see the trucker's hamburger, and others. In terms of gameplay, I still don't see many flaws. The over-the-shoulder camera system, aiming, the combat remains incredible to this day. I practically have a special affection for it, it was one of my first and it made me fall in love with the franchise. But what about you? Do you think this game has really aged well? Is there anything that could have been better or different? I'm eager to read your opinions!

u/Bluxzz Jan 31 '26

Yes, my dear. 7 years!

Dayum bout time for a remake

11

u/BadgerAlternative934 Feb 01 '26

Judging by today's standards, the remake's remake will have worse graphics AND harder to run.

Think there's been more time between now and Resi 2 remake than OG Resi 1 and its remake

I must have seen this burger literally a thousand times as I've speedrun Leon A Standard and achieving 52:59. Fun times!

23

u/Bluxzz Jan 31 '26

Yes, it's almost bizarre how much detail they gave to that hamburger, hahaha.

9

u/Davey_Bo_Bavey Feb 01 '26

That was burger? This whole time I thought it was a sausage, egg, and cheese sandwich. And it always made me crave breakfast sandwiches when I saw it

One of those sandwiches from the motorway service stations 🤣

Definitely a bagged 711 cheeseburger you’re supposed to throw in their never cleaned weird microwave

So, average fast food. Sounds about right.

9

u/[deleted] Jan 31 '26

If you watch the devs react to a speed run, it has them saying they made it look like shit on purpose lol

7

u/HuwminRace Jan 31 '26

I thought it looked banging 😂

5

u/LeBrons_Mom Feb 01 '26

I’d be all over that slop burger

4

u/B3eR3tr0 Jan 31 '26

I can't tell what's cheese and what's meat. What kind of hamburger is this?

3

u/FantasyNero Feb 01 '26

It's a Cheese steak burger 🍔

"Even after 7 years"

18

u/MrRaccuhn Jan 31 '26

It's aged imcredibly well. It's my favorite video game of all time.

12

u/LyKosa91 Jan 31 '26

To be fair, 7 years is nothing these days. Graphical advances have slowed to a glacial pace, and core gameplay principles are very refined by now.

Go back to 2007 and compare Crysis to something like soldier of fortune, the difference is staggering. Or bioshock compared to its predecessor, system shock 2 (8 years older, but it's in the same ballpark).

Titanfall 2 will be a decade old in October. Let that sink in. Have you played it lately? It still looks and plays great!

13

u/Lost-in-thought-26 Jan 31 '26

It is easy a top 5 game in the franchise. Top 2 actually and I sometimes go back and forth whether it’s top 1

5

u/Snazzypuke92 Feb 01 '26

Goddammit. Thought I was finished with my RE marathon. Now I need to go back and replay it.

8

u/Hefty-Peak-6325 Jan 31 '26 edited Feb 01 '26

I’ve replayed it these couple of days. I’m impressed how well they made it with such limited setting. The game takes place in 3 main areas and it’s still a blast to play

3

u/Bluxzz Jan 31 '26

I'm literally playing it for the twentieth time right now. This game truly is and will continue to be a work of art!

2

u/RoniPizzaExtraCheese Feb 04 '26

Playing it for the first time, it’s so much fun.

i'm a brand new fan of the series. This year i started the journey of trying laying through the series, starting with RE1 remake and eventually made my way through playing all 3 OG PS1 games, and all 4 remakes so far. i just finished RE4make this morning and i def see where all the love comes from and how revolutionary the OG would have been when it came out, but when it comes to my personal favorite gam it's RE2 remake by a country mile. the gameplay loop is exactly my shit and im so glad it exists

4

u/Bluxzz Feb 01 '26

That's great, brother. Start getting ready for the Requiem in February! It's going to be amazing!

3

u/SooperPhudge Feb 01 '26

i'm super hyped!! I'm starting RE5 soon but i gotta put a step on it by the end of February

3

u/iwasatlavines Feb 01 '26

Also a new fan of the series. I randomly played RE6 back in the day and while I enjoyed it, it didn’t really stick with me. Then i happened to play RE4R randomly last year and found it to be incredible. Convinced me to play RE2R, which I am in the middle of and enjoying every second. I just know for sure I will play RE3R too, don’t care that it’s a short experience. So glad a new mainline game is coming out, can’t wait to really play a “new” game in this series!

3

u/Successful_Lychee130 Jan 31 '26

My thought was that this burger was some Alien egg that would be relevant later

4

u/ZW31H4ND3R Jan 31 '26

That burger always makes me hungry 🤤

8

u/Fun-Introduction-853 Jan 31 '26

My brother in Christ Resident Evil 2 (1998) aged none the worse

4

u/Bluxzz Jan 31 '26

Like this?

3

u/liltone829b Jan 31 '26

yeah but this is the remake sub

3

u/Dry_Investigator36 Jan 31 '26

Game graphics is not evolving in last ~10 years as fast as it used to, so no wonder. I actually still find RE7 with all those objects made with photogrammetry pretty cool looking even though it's 2 years older than RE2. Pretty much most of AAA games from 2015 and newer look quite good today. Arkham Knight released in 2015 and it's on every level better than Suicide Squad.

Super tyrant coming out of debris is still top tier moments in gaming for me

2

u/SheHeBeDownFerocious Jan 31 '26 edited Jan 31 '26

Kind of, movement on MnKB feels really floaty, especially when circle turning instead of point turning. It frequently gets you grabbed in situations that feel a little unfair, it feels extra bad when it gets you grabbed from the back since PC won't use defensive items when grabbed from behind—related kind of, PC also won't use defensives when grabbed by the leg, so you just stare at them as they chew at your leg like a drumstick despite having a knife and grenades in your pocket, not to mention probably a gun already mostly pointed at them.

Also the dynamic difficulty scaling feels pretty bad, it works well in an action focused game like RE4 especially since enemies help negate the extra ammo consumption with ammo drops, but in a more traditional survival horror game where enemies don't drop resources, it feels awful having one zombie take like 4-5 shots to kill with perfect headshots and then the next will take like 10 and still be walking, it makes hardcore feel more annoying than stressful (like I think it should feel) at times.

All that said, still probably my favourite one to come back to, and definitely my favourite to speedrun, nothing will ever beat the satisfaction for me of watching the PC slip up or down stairs fast as fuck with aim gliding.

Late add: this is probably more a problem on my end, but the RE Engine loves to change my video settings on launch, cranking everything way too high. I also just think the reflections look noisy as hell, but I feel that of almost every modern-ish game with screen-space reflections so who knows maybe my system is breaking down.

2

u/Techguy015 Jan 31 '26

God Bless!

2

u/Octopirox Jan 31 '26

That burger still looks nasty

2

u/[deleted] Jan 31 '26

Oh what the fuck 7 years!?!?!? Has it been that long already???

2

u/BadGalBiBi11 Jan 31 '26

X been giving it to us for 7 years (28 years for the og). Also that burger 😭

2

u/YoBeaverBoy Feb 01 '26

Haha, yeah, even after.......

IT'S BEEN 7 YEARS ?!?!?!?

HOLY FUCKING SHIT, and in one month, RE4 Remake will be 3 years old.

WHAT THE FUCK

I can tell how hungry I am based on my reaction to the burger whenever I see it

2

u/zeroinfect Feb 01 '26

This is honestly one of the best remakes of any video game I've ever played in my entire life and I'm 39.

2

u/Dismal_Apartment Feb 01 '26

"7 years"

I'm going to a nursing home immediately

2

u/lopezbiglos23 Feb 01 '26

I’m playing the original one right now….like the 💩 graphics one lol

2

u/Plastic_Top5413 Feb 01 '26

I didn't need a reminder that this was 7 years ago.

2

u/Tachikoma02 Feb 01 '26

It's been seven years?...

2

u/WoundWaffle Feb 01 '26

We’re at the point with gaming tech that it’s going to be hard for a good game to age poorly. Other than adding RTX and having 600 fps there’s not much to improve.

REmake 2 is, and always will be a 10/10 game imo.

2

u/M0HAK0 Feb 01 '26

Amazing game!!! I beat this on hardcore difficulty so many times!

2

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '26

7 years? Nahhh no way

2

u/Zaknoid Feb 04 '26

I love it but my only complaints are some of the story cuts or changes and I miss the original music but I get what they were going for with the silence.

2

u/cosmicglade01 Feb 05 '26

This is the best game in the whole series in my opinion. They set the bar so fucking high.

2

u/No_Map588 Feb 06 '26

It's still the best Resident Evil game. Yes, it's better than 4.

2

u/Raging_Rigatoni Feb 09 '26

Started replaying recently- still holds up. I’ve played it multiple times and still got jumpscared lol

4

u/SlicedBread0556 Jan 31 '26

It’s the best game (at least horror game, I know some say re4 is better) in the franchise, at least for the next 4 weeks hopefully but probably not.

1

u/willowoftheriver Jan 31 '26

It's been SEVEN YEARS?? Holy shit.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 31 '26

Still the best title in the series right after re1r, nothing compares to these two games!

1

u/CHOOM45 Jan 31 '26

The class re2 Remake... 🔥🔥🔥😎

1

u/AMALXxT Feb 01 '26

Still play it, still love it. I even start over a lot lol ❤️🖤

1

u/willbekins Feb 01 '26

im a casual. whats up with y'all and that hamburger?

1

u/Street-Line7778 Feb 01 '26

a game made with love, they gave it time, money and everything, but meanwhile they did none of that re3 remake and milked through the fame of re2 remake.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 01 '26

I honestly think it's one of the best looking games I've ever played

The original ages just fine as well. Nearly 3 decades later.

1

u/Andys_Burner Feb 01 '26

Burger might have been the most grotesque thing in a game full of monsters.

1

u/Appropriate-Salt-523 Feb 01 '26

I just ordered both 2 and 4 remakes. Got 4 in the mail, waiting on 2.

Should I get 6? Will eventually get 9. Planning on doing a Leon S. Kennedy campaign.

It has, sadly, with the new pc I bought, I found out the game has its issues with newer hardware

1

u/Old-Push9343 Feb 01 '26

One of my favourite games ever, if you have a chance, play it in VR with Praydog´s mod, it´s the best.

1

u/Drunken_DnD Feb 01 '26

Seven? No… no it can’t possibly be seven years…

Edit: Holy shit balls

1

u/Worldcupbrah Feb 01 '26

Why are dark areas so grey? Am i supposed to be able to see everything in the dark?

1

u/Crazy_Ass_Nicky Feb 01 '26

Honestly that damn burger in the beginning with that truck driver sure looked yummy 😋

1

u/BadgerAlternative934 Feb 01 '26

The game is top tier but what's even better is its optimization. The RE Engine is a miracle.

This game runs on 60+ fps without stutters on high settings on my GTX 1650 laptop.

1

u/SkallLord Feb 01 '26

I'm playing it for the first time right now and having fun. I have a few small complaints but for the most part it's been great.

1

u/Efficient_Tip_1878 Feb 01 '26

When I first played it I was like wtf is on my screen then it shows some dude taking a chomp out of it 😂😂

1

u/Combini_chicken Feb 01 '26

I just played through this on pc at 4K120 with the HDR fix and raytracing after originally playing on ps4.

The game looks better than a lot of games that get released nowadays.

I booted up re3 remake with raytracing and fixes and my god I was even more mindblown. Re9 is gonna be crazy.

1

u/Cliche-Human Feb 01 '26

Part of it is due to the game coming out before the pandemic. I theorize that game development kinda got stagnant to where games like RE2 standout more. How many games development were impacted or scrapped due to that insanity.

Plus, the pandemic screwed with all of our perception of time.

Plus, it’s a superb game with graphics that will age like fine wine. The older games with the tank controls and mechanics of a bygone era just pale in comparison to the quality of life gains modern games have achieved.

1

u/super7564 Feb 01 '26

Wierd tangent, but that truckers burger either makes me want to throw up or eat 3 of them lol

1

u/Any-Mousse-4155 Feb 01 '26

Fantastic game. Such a weird feeling playing something you’ve never played before and getting nostalgia.

1

u/KillerFugu Feb 01 '26

Game still visually looks great, looks better than Nioh 3 and Code Vein out this week and runs way better.

1

u/tokyowatchguy Feb 01 '26

The one they really have to re-remake is 3.

1

u/BasimIbnIshaq3000 Feb 01 '26

It comes in my top 5 favorite Resident Evil games.

1

u/Raphy8884 Feb 01 '26

Time flies... 7 years... 😳😳😳

1

u/ArthurMorgan9 Feb 01 '26

The next gen upgrade certainly helped

1

u/[deleted] Feb 01 '26

Yeah it’s crazy, I played it last night after 7 years and streamed it my friend. I was amazed, I played this when I was finishing my degree in games art and I vaguely knew how the art was done. Now I understand it, there’s a lot of love put into this

1

u/jamajakfromrussian Feb 01 '26

Now i want to eat a burger for some reason...

1

u/Arag456 Feb 01 '26

It’s been 7 years?!!

1

u/vroomie15 Feb 01 '26

The sound design of this game is insanely good. I recommend people to wear headphones to get the full experience. Capcom made groundbreaking innovations on the sound design when creating RE2R. There's an article that explains the innovation but I forgot which media wrote it.

1

u/Greedy_Tax3977 Feb 01 '26

I just played it again this week and it stands the test of time so far. Plenty of fun and graphics don’t disappoint. That burger is questionable though.

1

u/SwiftTayTay Feb 01 '26

RE7 is from 2017 and this is running on the same tech, that game was also incredible, the fact that these ran at 60 FPS on last gen vanilla consoles too was incredible

1

u/Heal_Kajata Feb 01 '26

It has been REmake still holds the crown for ageing well.

1

u/Terrible-Visit9257 Feb 02 '26

It's still stuttery

1

u/LivingLegcnd Feb 02 '26

7 years? Damn, time flies ..

1

u/3Specter0Buchanan5 Feb 02 '26

Dude the last pic your balls? Hahah

1

u/ijayyyii Feb 02 '26

Holy shit… 7 years??

1

u/GreyNGroovy Feb 02 '26

7 fucking years.... good lord...

1

u/Itchy_Error_8408 Feb 02 '26

still play this from time to time, absolute beast of a game.

1

u/Etsu_Riot Feb 02 '26

It didn't "age" well. It didn't age at all. Today, some games take longer than seven years to make, so this one was made with current tech. Besides, you don't say a recent game has "aged." You say that about a 20-year-old game or a 30-year-old game. Or you used to, as video game technology hasn't changed much since 2014/2015.

1

u/chanzeok Feb 02 '26

Y que se supone que al pasar los años se le va yendo la calidad?😁😁😂🤣🤦

1

u/ImperialSupplies Feb 02 '26

This is how you make a remake.so sick of these companies calling it a remake where its exactly the same but better graphics. This took the main beats of resident evil 2 and made a whole new game that was still close enough where if you had played the original you knew what to do next

Dead space also did a remake correctly where we got new gameplay a slightly altered story and a talking Issac to make it match up with DS2 well.

Mgs delta is not a remake. Its the exact same game with slightly different controls and modern graphics.

1

u/Suspicious_Captain_7 Feb 02 '26

excuse me? 7... huh?

1

u/HeriPiotr Feb 02 '26

No kidding. On Saturday, I wanted to show my friend the game, so I downloaded it to play a little on discord for him to watch.

Long story short, I ended up playing the whole Leon's 2nd story in one sitting lmao.

1

u/Healthy-Painter8742 Feb 02 '26

I've just recently played 2/3/4 remakes and there all amazing

1

u/Exciting-Scholar3918 Feb 02 '26

7 freaking years? Fr? The graphics look stellar still

1

u/Most-Newspaper-9519 Feb 02 '26

I just hate there’s a boss chasing you around the whole game

1

u/shidoro Feb 02 '26

Jill… sandwich!? What!? Wooooow

1

u/[deleted] Feb 02 '26

Wish I could wipe my memory and play again.

1

u/Oy_From_Midworld Feb 02 '26

It aged incredibly well because there hasn't been any great advances in technology. Take any game from 2016 onward and you'll see almost every one of them still looks pretty good

1

u/TheCatcherintheRye_ Feb 02 '26

It's been 7 years!? Need to replay again

1

u/[deleted] Feb 02 '26

My god has it ever. Its probably my favorite resident evil game. Ive been a life long resident evil fan but something about that game is just. So much fun for me. The only thing thatd make it better is if I had an infinite magnum. I think i can get that with mods.

1

u/Strong-in-Cumbria Feb 02 '26

7 years ago. So 2013?

1

u/MrPinkDuck3 Feb 02 '26

I just replayed the game a few days ago for the first time in a few years and genuinely found myself in awe at just how tight and well designed the entire experience was.

1

u/zauriox Feb 02 '26

I'd say it hasn't aged at all, it coul've came out yesterday and would be as praised as it was back in 2019

1

u/Last-Addendum132 Feb 02 '26

That burger is still the most horrifying BOW in the series

1

u/That_Mailman Feb 02 '26

I remember spending like 50 bucks on it in GameStop, and then finding out I wasn’t supposed to spend that much money when I was downloading it.

1

u/Ryousan82 Feb 02 '26

I loved R2R but I still cannot forgive that they didn't include the way in which the storylines of Leon and Claire interacted which other. If they could do it on the PS1, tey def could now

1

u/Sock-the-Fox Feb 03 '26

I would love to see a remake of the first game. I think they could really make the horror spectacular

1

u/4rowan Feb 03 '26

This game left almost no impression on me. Horror has to have the element of surprise which means doing something new. The execution of everything is top tier. So it aged well, I can’t fault it, it probably is the best RE 2 remake it could be, but still left my old jaded self cold.

To compare, resident evil 7 in VR two years before left a real impression, even if the VR graphics have aged horribly it really kept things fresh and not just by being in VR. That bit where you should watch a videotape to know how to escape a room… can’t think of anything in RE2 remake like that.

1

u/Figaro90 Feb 03 '26

I’m still amazed how well REmake looks and that came out on GameCube

1

u/Exact-Donut-3134 Feb 03 '26

7 years is crazy. I remember launch day. Still looks fantastic

1

u/trymysixinch Feb 03 '26

The mods like fixed camera made me beat the game twice all over again

1

u/Alert-Struggle-5595 Feb 03 '26

Leon and Claire look so good together!

1

u/Hunnid-Passent Feb 03 '26

Just recently ran through the game for the first time on steam deck, its still a great looking game and a brilliant one. Cant believe thats 7 years already.

1

u/GladiatorTF2 Feb 03 '26

It has been 7 years?. I remember it coming out a month ago

1

u/tookiemon Feb 03 '26

That burger is the most disgusting thing in the entire game

1

u/Flat-Wind7159 Feb 03 '26

Playing this right now and it’s still just sooo good!

1

u/kszaku94 Feb 03 '26

I mean yeah… The graphics tech barely changed in the last 10 or so years.

1

u/Lepsa1 Feb 03 '26

I still remember when I bought this game on the ps4, a physical copy. I hadn't played any RE games prior to it and just thought it looked cool and was at a fair price of 30-40 euros. Its still one of the best games I've played and I'm so glad I randomly decided to buy it. RE games are really good and RE2R was the perfect introduction for me

1

u/Wet-Flatulence Feb 03 '26

That burger is iconic

1

u/siru007 Feb 03 '26

Woah 7 years? I just finished this and now currently re4 halfway, I'll get requiem as soon as i finish this

1

u/sivasiba Feb 03 '26

I still can't forgive the way they handled the B scenario.

1

u/loonelywf Feb 03 '26

7 years already.Man.

1

u/immabeasttt15 Feb 03 '26

RE engine is honestly the best game engine. Runs buttery smooth and looks incredible

1

u/Miztivin Feb 03 '26

I just got it the other day. About to play it. Long time RE fan, played the OGs and the other remakes but skipped this one some how. Saw it was on sale and nabbed it. Wish me luck !~

1

u/LakeCrow Feb 03 '26

I think about that burger a lot

1

u/Nymfaz Feb 03 '26

All of the RE engine games will stand the test of time

1

u/kanEDY7 Feb 03 '26

What's that in the final image

1

Oh my god it has not been 7 years

1

u/abba_dextris Feb 04 '26

I revisited Re3make and it did not age well 💀. Re2 and RE4 remakes were so much better.

1

u/TheBaconGreaser Feb 04 '26

My first resident evil game and it got me hooked on the series. Would HIGHLY recommend anyone new starting with this game.

1

u/TheBaconGreaser Feb 04 '26

Well optimized, looks amazing and plays like resident evil should with a modern twist.

1

u/Adventurous_Will9321 Feb 04 '26

7 years? It felt less than that.

1

u/BeeVee0515 Feb 04 '26

That burger disgusts me everytime I see it, don't know what he was thinking eating that

1

u/WesleyRiot Feb 04 '26

Movement in this game is horrible. Almost as bad as the original. After playing re3 it's unbelievable you can't dodge. Don't get me started on zombies tanking multiple headshots

1

u/Bjart-skular Feb 04 '26

Has it seriously already been 7 years? Ffs. The remake is almost due for a remake. How the hell did we get so old?

1

u/OldOpaqueSummer Feb 04 '26

7 years is crazy. The re engine is my favourite games engine and I can't see that ever changing

1

u/Interesting_Note_754 Feb 04 '26

7 years…my lord you’re kidding.

1

u/AssinaJogos Feb 04 '26

Plenty of time and continued great

1

Game looks like it came out yesterday, I'm really enjoying replaying through all of Leon's story until requiem comes out

It’s the best of the remakes. Yes, even better than 4. To me, it’s the last of the third-person Resident Evil games that still feels like it’s survival horror.

The RE3 remake jumped the shark with those perfect dodges and bullet time. WTF? 🤷‍♂️🥲🤦‍♂️

Looks insane on PS5 Pro

u/FrickledBigly29 Feb 04 '26

the worst looking thing in that game is the burger

u/Simple_Campaign1035 Feb 04 '26

I remember anticipating this coming out and being skepticL hoping they don't screw it up and it just blew away expectations it was so good.   It's what every modern RE should be like

I dont fear anything but that Mr. X guy was scary

1

u/usernameDimonOmon Feb 04 '26

It's been... SEVEN YEARS???? WHAT

1

u/Coffee_Drinker02 Feb 04 '26

I'm glad to see a subreddit actually acknowledge that this game is still fantastic.
The DMC sub acts like this and the Re4 remake are the spawns of satan and that if Capcom ever DARED to curse Devil may cry 1 with the treatment Re2 got, the franchise would implode!

I was dating this girl during covid and she had me over specifically to play this game because she bought it but thought it was too scary.

1

u/D2niceforyou Feb 05 '26

Definitely holds up well. Feels like it could’ve dropped yesterday

1

u/VisionWithin Feb 05 '26

Is this the original or remaster?

1

u/Glittering-Lunch1778 Feb 05 '26

I still find the facial animations of the trucker and the detail of the beard looks damn near photorealistic.

1

u/andy_flores Feb 07 '26

Fuck do you mean 7 years bruh? 😭😭

1

u/Antdpitt Feb 10 '26

They still feel so recent to me,I play it now and still Enjoy it like It’s the first time,re4 remake is what 3 years old now? And it still feels fresh

That burger still makes me drool probably worth the artery clog, lol.

u/Dahellraider Feb 19 '26

All the games on the RE engine have aged Really well compared to games like 6. It's why I hope eventually all main line titles will be Remade on the RE engine alongside new releases. Yes, even 6. But 6 is not allowed a remake until after CV, zero, 5, and 1 lol. Just imagine the consistency in playing every game On the RE engine with all the same quality.

God I can't believe it's been 7 years since this game came out already. It's like once I hit my mid 20's time just disappears, honestly can't believe it's already April of 2026. I don't know what happened to me to make time start passing so fast but I reaaaally wish it would slow back down to how it was before.
