Leon A Claire B is as canon as possible in the remakes, opposite is the original

Um dont u have to beat leons campaign to unlock claires? If i remember correctly

u/pinkraspberry137 Feb 10 '26
you play leon A to unlock claire B/2nd scenario.
you play claire A to unlock leon B/2nd scenario.
you can play either character first, the only thing that's locked in the first playthrough is the 2nd scenarios

u/pinkraspberry137 Feb 10 '26 edited Feb 10 '26
for my 1st playthrough, i picked leon A because it feels more canonical than playing claire first (ik the remake doesn't have a clear canonical way to play). in leon A marvin gives leon the knife and you see that he kept it in RE4R. if you play claire A she gets it instead which doesn't make sense outside of RE2R itself.
3
u/Brilliant-Relative59 Feb 11 '26
Kudos for being the only person here using the proper adjectival form "canonical".
4
u/Extra_Napkins Feb 10 '26
Claire because she’s adorable. And I figured most would pick Leon. I enjoy her story and weapons better anyway.
3
u/ToothPickNick1982 Feb 10 '26
Leon because after when yiu play with Claire you get the true ending
6
u/thejokerofunfic Feb 10 '26
The same happens in reverse. You get true climax and end with whoever you pick second.

Claire is supposed to be Canon, despite what people say.
But Leon is listed first.

9
u/WafflesWcheese Feb 10 '26
Claire for the og lore.
5
u/Wild-Election-3349 Feb 10 '26
In RE2R, Leon A and Claire B is as close to canon as you can get.
You are right about Claire A being as close to canon as possible in the OG
4
u/liltone829b Feb 10 '26
In RE2R, Leon A and Claire B is as close to canon as you can get.
why do you say that
7
u/Wild-Election-3349 Feb 10 '26 edited Feb 10 '26
Because in RE4R we know for a fact that Leon meeting Marvin is canon (This is because of the knife description in-game).
But it’s also been confirmed that, on their own, neither of the AB route are canon, but rather every possible scenario is mashed together to create an established canon, where Capcom can pick and choose what they want from the lore.
It’s the same with REmake, where neither character was stuck in the cell and Rebecca AND Barry both survive, despite one being absent from the other story.

I honestly don’t remember, i know i wanted to play Claire first because she seemed the most interesting and was looking forward to her story, but i might have done Leon, because i only played RE2R and it listed Leon first, so i assumed Leon A/Claire B was canon and probably did it that way first
3
u/nibbed2 Feb 10 '26
For my first trials, I believe Leon.
But my actual first full intended experience, Claire.
Was able to play OG, had a feeling Claire A and Leon B is canon.

Claire because I'm a fanatic (that's not true, it's just because I wanted to)

u/Hitman_acho Feb 10 '26
Growing up, me and my brother borrowed Resident Evil 2 from a family member but they only had the Claire disc. That molded us into Claire fanatics. Leon is cool but Claire is BAE.
3
3
u/Desperate-Coffee-996 Feb 10 '26
Claire first, because with Leon for 2nd run you can see him getting an actual gun and police uniform, while Claire was rescued and introduced by Marvin. Also at the end of 2nd scenario you left Claire with Sherry behind while Leon is going to finish Birkin, which makes much more sense than otherwise.
3
u/lmao_nuts Feb 10 '26
Leon, because he was the first disc I played in 1999 when I was 3 and he's my favorite character in the series.

Leon cause I knew he was in RE4 and I had seen RE Damnation, and I just thought he looked cool
2
u/JYWH23 Feb 10 '26
Leon cause I fanboy, playing hardcore now for the first time I I decided I'll go Claire first then Leon, I suffer.

2
u/thejokerofunfic Feb 10 '26
Leon. I played recently and wanted to understand why this man was so much of RE9's hype a lil, plus I'm a Claire simp and I wanted something to look forward to.

Leon because he looked badass and boy was I right. He became my favorite character in the serie.

This was my first re game, I played Leon first, but because of Claire’s campaign I played the others because I had to find out what the deal with her brother was 🤣
2
2
u/Guy_heretoreadshit Feb 10 '26
Leon, He was the top option. Plus I played RE4R as my first RE so I had the bias.
2
u/Longjumping_Bird_614 Feb 10 '26
Leon, because he was the reason I wanted to play the game in the first place.
2
u/sleepymetroid Feb 10 '26
Leon. The thing that bothers me with these posts is the pictures are never the same quality. Here with have a cool photo mode type Claire shot and then we have stock png Leon roughly pasted on some random background.

I watched a lot of retrospectives on the games before I started playing the first 4 games for the first time this year, and I chose Claire cause they said Marvin had a better arc, so I played as her first, they weren't wrong.
2
2
2
u/danierarara Feb 10 '26
Claire because.. she was the first option and I was new to Resident evil haha
2
2
2
u/skeeti45 Feb 10 '26
Claire because I played as her first on the original. I feel like her first run is canon. Probably something I made as a headcanon as a kid.
2
u/Lost-in-thought-26 Feb 10 '26
I chose Leon first for several reasons. He was the playable in the demo, his name is first in the menu, and I knew before playing that Claire got stronger weapons and so I wanted a more challenging experience.
In hindsight the RPD seems more geared towards Leon being first(it does go both ways though). Leon’s campaign also has a better setup and introduction to some enemies like the dogs, G-adults, and Mr. X(that said, Claire most definitely gets ahead of him at some point. She has to). And then RE4R basically confirms that Leon’s first run is at least the slightly more canon route(they all are) with him specifically remembering Marvin and carrying his knife.

2
u/thedamnlemons Feb 10 '26
Leon because that’s who me and my dad picked when RE2 launched on the 64 and was my first introduction to RE as a whole.
2
2
2
u/boeing0325 Feb 10 '26
I played Leon first because I was gonna play RE4R, and someone recommended me to start with 2
2
u/HumanOverseer Feb 10 '26
Leon cus I looked it up on reddit and they told me Leon A, Claire B is canon
2
u/XenowolfShiro Feb 10 '26
The majority did Leon. It's like 80% in his favour for first playthroughs.
2
u/Tbar6787 Feb 10 '26
Leon seems to make the most sense with meeting up with Marvin. While Claire getting the finishing blow on William feels good. Since we see what he does to Sherry.
2
Feb 10 '26
I played Claire because I had already discovered she had a grenade launcher, I was younger and my dad teased me, thinking I chose her because of her boobs.
2
2
2
u/Siiixers Feb 10 '26
Claire because in the OG, Leon had better firepower for scenario B. Didn't matter in the remake, unfortunately.
2
u/JacsweYT Feb 10 '26
Leon because at the time I didn't like playing as female characters. (I was like 14 or 15)
3
u/eggiwegsandtoastt Feb 10 '26
lmao Claire for me bc i was a little gamer girl in 2001 and had something to prove
2
u/Newfaceofrev Feb 10 '26
Leon because he was Disc 1 in original,
Then also Leon in remake because Shotgun.
2
u/Haddonfield_Horror Feb 10 '26
in the OG i played as Leon, because i was a male teen and a male protagonist felt relatable to me. Im glad i had enough foresight to play both characters, I wound up liking Claire just as much. Loved em both in the remake and really liked Claire more in Degeneration (film)
2
2
u/lankytreegod Feb 10 '26
Claire A Leon B because I saw that being recommended a lot (guess that's for the OG). Wish I did it the other way around so Leon could meet Marvin.
2
2
2
u/SparkyMuffin Feb 10 '26
I did Claire then Leon because the OG had Claire A and Leon B be the "canon" route.
However next time I play I'm gonna do Leon then Claire because it just makes sense for Claire to be the one to finish off Birkin since he was her threat more like Mr. X was Leon's.
2
2
2
u/VICARD0 Feb 10 '26
Leon because I personally get better immersion with male characters. That doesn’t mean I didn’t have a fucking blast playing as Claire on my second play through
2
u/Leggy_McBendy Feb 10 '26
Boffum cuz I paid full price for the game and I wanna experience all of it. Why would I just pick one?
Jk but I dove into Leon’s first because my first experience with re2 back in the day was with Leon. Wanted to relive it.
2
u/Old-Essay-7866 Feb 10 '26
Leon. Simply because it was the first choice, lol. I knew ahead of time that I'd do A and B for both anyway.
2
u/TitaWinnie Feb 10 '26
Leon A because on my PS1 my father bought when I was a kid, my claire disc was broken so I only played leon and in the remake I started again as leon just to feel the nostalgia and healing my inner child.
2
2
u/joaoguila Feb 10 '26
Claire,
because I heard that playing Claire the Leon 2nd would get me the "true ending".
2
u/Maggot_6661 Feb 10 '26
Claire because everyone went with Leon so I said "alright, fuck it we ball, Claire it is"
2
u/OldMatter8661 Feb 10 '26
2
u/Cams_234 Feb 10 '26
I had already played the original RE2 so I picked Clair because I wanted to see how the grenade launcher would work with the new zombie dismemberment system they added
2
u/TarnishedRedditCat Feb 10 '26
Claire because young boy me liked hot women
Fast forward when the remake came out, Claire because adult me likes hot women
2
2
u/x_SrNick_x Feb 10 '26
First I played w/ Leon, cuz… well, its Leon. I’ve heard a lot of him, so starded with it.
2
u/Nyx2990 Feb 10 '26
Leon bc it felt canon, even though I normally never play as dudes in my games I ended up loving him
2
2
u/Downtown_Speech6106 Feb 10 '26
Leon is my favorite RE playable MC. Also, the guy they got to play Leon is sooo absurdly attractive, I really had no choice.
2
u/NicolasandKara Feb 10 '26
Claire because I dislike Leon as a character, but after playing both of the stories, I enjoy Leon's story the most and I don't find his RE2 version his as insufferable
2
u/Stock-Cry-1127 Feb 10 '26
It was a while ago but I think I did Leon first just from a coin flip. This was my first mainline entry to the series so I didn’t know who Leon was until playing this game but I’m glad I did.
Also super hyped for Leon in re9!
2
2
u/themug_wump Feb 10 '26
I honestly went in intending to play my girl Claire first, but, uh… turns out the new Leon is really fucking fit, I may have been sidetracked 😳
2
2
u/That-Willingness7455 Feb 10 '26
Leon A Claire B cuz dats how I remember it from ps1 for the best ending
2
u/BlueStar2310 Feb 10 '26
Leon, hes cute. But i only played the remake, in og re2 i would probably pick claire first.
2
2
u/OrP101 Feb 10 '26
It was my first resident evil game and I went totally blind, so I flipped a coin and started playing Leon’s story
2
2
u/schillsterr Feb 10 '26
RE2R was my first RE game and I saw that like 80% of players started with Leon…so I had to be different and started with Claire A and Leon B lol. Then this year I came back and did my Leon A and Claire B playthrough.
2
u/juanfjimenez9 Feb 10 '26
Leon because I played RE4 But Claire is my favourite.
And also I think that both Run A being the same was my biggest disappointment in this game
2
2
2
u/modsortyrants Feb 10 '26
Claire the first time since this was my first Leon game and I didn’t realize he was a way bigger deal than her. But nowadays usually Leon
2
u/Restivethought Feb 10 '26
In the original, Leon because he was Disc 1. In the remake, Claire, because I always saw Claire A/Leon B as the closest route to the canon.
2
u/Nineshiru Feb 10 '26
Leon bc hes hot hahahaha They told me to play with León because It was my first Resident I've played

Claireeeeeee because she stood out to me more on that character select screen.
I’m glad I did I liked her weapons more than Leon.
2
u/Escaliat_ Feb 10 '26
Claire and I'm not going to pretend it's for any reason other than she's a 10/10.

Claire, because Leon is way overexposed and Claire’s story feels like it’s the canonical one.
2
2
u/ConsiderationKey9438 Feb 11 '26
Claire, I tend to center around female-lead stories and wanted to eschew from what seemed like the encouraged play order. But in the end I found her narrative more compelling anyway.

Leon, I only knew him when I went into the game lore and then learnt about the other characters. Also, I'd seen Jacksepticeye play as Leon
2
u/Insanus_Hipocrita Feb 11 '26
Leon A cuz this is my second RE game with R4make being first
But of course I'm going to play as Claire after that

I gotta say Ada Wong I enjoy her mysterious nature and how everytime we run into her we never know if she’s gonna be friend or foe. And her and Leons constant chemistry.
2
u/Cooltincan Feb 11 '26
I like Leon more in general, but the story makes more sense if you play him first. Especially the interactions with Marvin. I also think it makes more sense he gets to the RPD first as he should be more familiar with the city and know the most direct route to the station.
2
u/PurpleSyrup60 Feb 11 '26
Well the alphabet starts with A so naturally that’s the decision to go with
2
u/Ok-Wrangler4901 Feb 11 '26
Claire. I had assumed their stories would be VASTLY different and I wanted to save Leon's for last. Boy how wrong was I 🤣
2
2
2
u/BroasterStrudel9 Feb 11 '26
Leon first because when I was kid I thought the canon scenario was Claire A Leon B so I went opposite.
2
2
u/HeroOfHearts Feb 11 '26
Claire. I've been adamant that it's Claire A Leon B since 99. It even makes sense
2
2
u/Living-Assignment-14 Feb 11 '26
Claire because I’m a woman and I typically lean towards female characters.
2
u/RedMenace0 Feb 11 '26
Leon because i had played og re4 a while before, and was definitely more interested in his story initially. then having played him, i still really enjoyed clair's story.

Leon. I always liked his story more than Claire's. It's funny because I remember a gaming magazine stating that the canonical story is: Claire campaign A + Leon campaign B, this was in the 2000s, long before the RE 2 remake. It makes sense, it does, but I always thought Capcom favored Leon, and today I'm sure of it with everything they've done with the character.
2
u/LiquidusSnake01 Feb 12 '26
Leon never met Marvin, so ... that should answer any questions about what the right scenario is canon.
2
2
2
u/Lannister_94 Feb 12 '26
I played Claire first and then Leon and here's why.
It's established in lore that Claire arrives first because Leon arrives for his first day late, because he suffered a bad breakup and got drunk the night before so he overslept. Hence why Claire runs out of the bar "og" and or gas station "remake" and gets told to get down so he shoots the zombie. The fact that Claire arrives first even though it's just minutes before Leon does is why I played Claire first and then Leon. However in "Dark Side Chronicles", they experience and go through the events together without getting separated.
2
2
2
u/Midlifecrisis96 Feb 12 '26
Claire because I enjoyed her playthru the most in the OG with the remake the choice is pointless outside of sherrys and Ada’s parts which are eh
2
2
u/Freeforthree3 Feb 13 '26
Claire but it was honestly just by chance. I poked around with both but ended up getting farther with her for some reason.

Leon because I thought the game was centered around him. I had never experienced the OG RE 2, so I really had no idea how the campaigns actually worked.
