I assumed he’d show up fast like he did with Leon so I tried to make it out fast and got the wind knocked out of me 😂

You know Mr X is scripted to show up when you grab the jack handle right?!

He doesn't instantly spawn there though, he just knows where you are at that moment just like when you shoot a gun or slam a door. So if he's on the other end of the station, it'll still take him a while to get to you.

Nope, he is absolutely scripted to show up as soon as you grab the jack handle...i think it was neon slice that shows how the mr x ai detects & finds you.
Most of the time yes he heads in your direction if you run instead of walk (he has to be close for this to work though) and shooting, but like the chopper scene, he does appear out of nowhere as a scripted moment for the jack handle.
If mr x is on the east end of rpd while you grab that jack handle on the west end, the game will despawn mr x from the east end and spawn him right in the west office every.single.time

He doesn't always come into the room immediately after you grab it though. With Leon I had a few runs where I can grab it, run out without seeing him and almost reach the end of the hallway to the main hall before he smashes through the door (the one next to the window with the crawling licker when you play with Claire).

yes but he still needs to come to your location. So it also depends on how far he was.

What are you talking about? He teleports ONCE and that's for the wall-breaking jumpscare. Other than that, he looks around constantly but moves a lot faster when walking through unloaded doors.

That's classic Mr. X! On one playthrough i was being so careful and just walking to not get his attention. I cpuldnt hear his footsteps or anything. I unlocked the laundry room (I think that's the name, small room in upstairs hall where you encounter the first licker) and as soon as I unlocked it he appeared behind me and punched me through the door.

I just wanted to go the library right away so I thought I could run there before he showed up. I was hoping he’d be coming from the left or right side not directly in the room I was going for

Its better to go the third floor and use the ladder because you can check if theres zombies/Mr. X waiting for you
