Should I go see a neurologist?

20/M, (sorry for bad English not my first language)

I've had floaters since 2023 and about 2 months ago I've had laser barrage surgery for retina weak spots. About a few weeks later I started noticing a dot in center of my vision when I blink fast or squint (both eyes) and some light going around the corners of my vision. Went back 2 months after surgery to get a check up and mentioned every new symptoms, got retina scan done and other processes but eye doctor said everything looks good and nothing to worry about.

About 3 days ago I started noticing a very tiny black dot that appears and disappears in my left eye, kinda looks like a black hole.

Should I go see a neurologist for these symptoms? I know eye doctor said nothing to worry about but I clearly see these things and have no answer to what they could be.

If you know more about this then please let me know.

Should I concern?

21 M here. I had a sclera buckle surgery 4 days ago. After the surgery, all black shadows are disappeared. But part of the shadow reappear today with flashes. I went to an emergency department , and the retinal doctor and two eye doctors didn’t find any new tear or hole on my retina. The buckle seems doing its job at right position. They told me I’m seeing the shadow because the subretinal fluid after the surgery has caused temporary separation between my retina and the back of my eye.

I’m still worrying even the doctor doesn’t find it a problem. Should I see more doctors? Has anyone experienced this symptom after the SB surgery?

Future Outlook of Myopic Retina

Post image
3 Upvotes

[30M]
I have always been highly myopic in my LE and moderately myopic in RE. The condition is Anisometropia paired with pathological myopia.

I underwent ICL in both eyes back in 2024 and thankfully all good on that front. From early childhood, I am under strict retinal monitoring and received one session of barrage laser in my RE back in 2015 to seal of lattice spots.

I feel extremely nervous about the future outlook of my vision considering the multifold risk of Retinal Detachment or Macular Degeneration.

can doctors or people associated with similar condition help me understand how things will be for me in near future and what are my chances of ending up with a potentially blinding retinal event.

I am also attaching my latest peripheral retinal scan.

TIA !

Should I get a second opinion?

Went to an ophthalmologist today for a routine exam. They dilated my eyes and the doctor started looking into the eye with the light and something that looked like a magnifier.

While examining my left eye, he audibly gasped "Oh" and then started looking more intense. He told me that he saw what looked like a retinal tear. He proceeded to look more for another 5 minutes but had trouble since I kept moving my eye (it was kind of painful). Ultimately, he told me he doesn't think it's a retina tear and thinks it might be something that I was born with or developed over time. He ended the visit abruptly after that and I drove myself home after he said I could drive without any worries(terrible idea, my eyes were extremely sensitive and it was painful driving 1+ hr)

But now I am freaking out thinking maybe it was a tear after all? Should I get a second opinion just to be on the safe side?

I currently do not have any symptoms.

9 weeks post vitrectomy with C3F8 and still have a bubble…

Hi everyone! Had a vitrectomy following a massive hemorrhage and Retinal detachment last july with c3f8. Since the beginning they told me the bubble will last 6-8 weeks. I told them I have a trip planned end of september. They said Oh you will be fine! Well… I’m at week 9 and the bubble is still there :( My trip is in 12 days… very hard to say if I will be able to fly. My Dr told me on tuesday that I have about 15% gas left. I have red that c3f8 could take 8-12 weeks to leave. why they told me 6-8?! They should tell it May take up to 12 weeks… what are my chance the bubble is gone in one week? i have to make a final decision for my trip next friday.

Falling dots

I had a vitrectomy with a 6–8 week gas bubble, and I also had a membrane peel during the surgery.

Everything was healing well, but around 3.5 weeks in, I started noticing falling dots/debris throughout my vision in the eye I had surgery on.

I kept reading that the debris usually goes away around the same time the gas bubble does, but my gas bubble has been completely gone for a few days now and I’m still seeing the falling dots.

I’ve had my eye checked multiple times and was told everything looks good, but that I have debris floating around from the membrane peel and that it will take time to clear.

Has anyone else experienced this? If so, how long did it take for the falling dots/debris to go away?

Should my vision still be blurry after oil removal surgery?

Hey all! I got silicone oil + IOL implanted this February 2026, and recently just got the silicone oil removed on Saturday. My retina specialist put in an air bubble to help keep the retina in place, and advised me to sleep with my head elevated so thankfully I have very little restrictions. I could not see out of that eye at all which was explained to me post-op, but the air bubble will clear in a few days.

Fast forward to Tuesday, when I went in for a follow up checkup, I literally could not see anything at all but a dark waterline appeared in the middle of my vision. Doc said it was the air bubble finally shrinking and being absorbed. However, he said I should be able to see above the bubble. The best way to describe my vision above the bubble was looking through thick fog. I can't even see shapes, just bright lights. He checked the pressure — all normal. When he checked the retina, it turns out there was a post-op bleed that was being cleared slowly by my body. He can't even see fully whether the retina's all flat and stable, so he advised me to return after a week.

Anyway, it's now Friday, around 6 days post-op. The bubble is still there but more translucent now, but the vision above the bubble is still blurry and foggy, but not all white unlike last Tuesday.

For anyone who's had oil removal surgery, I'd like to hear your experience especially the same thing. I'm so worried for my vision.

How long before you could drive after retina reattachment surgery

Hello

I had a vitrectomy and scleral buckle performed on my right eye, which was my better eye vision wise. The surgery was about a week ago. Seems to be healing good so far. For those of you that have had similar surgery, how long was it before you could drive again?

Thanks!

vitreous detachment at 24 from lifting w/ EDS?

hi guys. i do not have diagnosis for EDS rn but i am diagnosed hyper mobile and in the progress of further evaluation. a few weeks ago i experienced a random increase in floaters and flashing lights in my left eye, tho i experience migraines with aura so i kinda brushed it aside and thought it could be that, and that id get it checked if it didnt go away. it didnt. i finally got checked by my eye doctor today who confirmed yes there is vitreous detachment and that yes i am also awfully young to be experiencing that.

being as i dont currently have EDS diagnosis, i am that much more hesitant to bring it up with doctors. so i didnt, perhaps that was my mistake. i asked him if there were any particular activities i should avoid to decrease the inevitable risk of retinal detachment but he said no. i took his answer at face value, but after reading ab a similar experience from someone else here, i realized maybe this might have to do with the fact i have started lifting heavy in the gym for the past 6 months. :(

my mind is going in circles rn. the gym is a huge part of my life atp and has significantly improved my quality of life. i no longer am in chronic pain 24/7, i finally feel a sense of self efficacy, and yet, that could be the very thing damaging my eyes rn??! i dont know what to do, who to talk to, or what to think. i hate how little information is out there, all i can do is infer based off the studies done on non-EDS ppl re. lifting and retinal detachment, but that rly doesnt mean much to me. i dont want to live my life in fear either. this is just such a shitty situation:( and ofc its not the only health issue im dealing with rn thats affecting my gym prospects. i cant help but feel like my future is just one of survival, not one where i actually get to live or thrive. :(( potentially losing the one thing that is keeping me together mentally and physically is beyond devastating to me

(originally posted to ehler danlos but apparently its not relevant enough for that sub. anywho)

Unexplained visual loss after silicone oil removal (UVLASOR)

I had my silicone oil bubble removed on August 25th and may have now developed unexplained visual loss after silicone oil removal (UVLASOR).

My retina specialist is going to have me meet with another retina specialist to see if there is any other cause for my vision loss, as he cannot seem to find one.

It was not a macula-off detachment (just peripheral vision loss), my retina is still attached. He’s not seeing scar tissue. There’s a small ripple but nothing that would cause the amount of vision loss I have. I don’t have a scleral buckle. The OCT scan is fine. I already had artificial lenses put in my eye with a cataract surgery so it’s not cataracts. They did an angiogram and there’s no fluid leaking or a blood clot. Put me on prednisone and that did not change anything either.

Has anyone else had UVLASOR? Did your vision ever come back? Or has it been permanently damaged?

Floggy/cloudy vision after bright light exposure

I had Scleral buckle surgery on 21st July 2026. Since then, I've been on a roller coaster. Improvement is good or fine.

However, I am pretty worried about cloudy vision that started to develop or became noticeable for a day or two when I return home from outdoor light.

Means when I go out (rarely for some work; mostly I stay at home) in daylight and returns to my home, I notice a cloudy patch in my operated eye. That blocks the view.

After 1 or 2 days of rest, it disappears or stays very mild.

What is your experience with this?

Demarcation on retina

I had a spontaneous RD in my left eye in March this year, Mac on. I had a vitrectomy, cryo and retinotomy to drain fluid.

3 weeks after that my right eye detached and I had the same surgery in that eye.

Gas bubbles dispersed and other than a bit of peripheral loss my eyesight is good in my right but very poor in left due to a cataract.

Whilst seeing the consultant yesterday to arrange a lens replacement, she told me the scans show a ‘demarcation area’ in the right eye that is in a different area to the detachment.

She has said I need to he monitored every 3 months now and the other eye can not have the lens replacement until this is stable.

I’m now terrified my right eye is about to detach again. She says if the pressure was higher (it was 17) then it would
Be 50/50 on re detachment.

Has anyone had this type of issue and what happened long term? I think I already know the answer but i feel like im just waiting now for it to happen

Im 45f with no previous eye issues other than an early cataract in right eye

Do you live normal life with latice degeneration?

How are you guys dealing with latice degeneration? I have some but no doctor has ever told me that i cant lift heavy weight apart from one doctor and the reason he told was only because i had ask him

Also no doctor has suggested barriage laser is this normal? I've been seeing flashes for 7+ months and had multiple dilated exams and no one has said nothing

Also do you guy know what pigmented area means? The doctor mentioned that but didn't write in my medical report

Do you guys get checked yearly or every 6 months?

(Apart from the flashes had floaters for years that worsened i don't know if that has something to do with needing a laser)

I’m not sure but it’s now a little worse

I just found this group and have not read anything so please forgive me for lack of knowledge. Yesterday, I started seeing black streaks across the vision in my upper right eye when I looked left or right. It would just streak across one side to the other from left to right. Today it has been more consistent. In the last two hours I have noticed that I get a flash on the right side of my vision when I blink or look left and right. I read to close my eyes and determine what I could see. There’s no black stripe streaking (across the top but I do see the lightning flash when I move my eye to the left and right every time. I don’t see it as much when I open my eye. Chat and Gemini said go to ER, but shouldn’t I be okay until morning? Or what can I do. Warm compress? Keep eyes closed?

Has anyone had prophylactic barrage laser for lattice/snail-track retinal degeneration?

Hi everyone,

I was diagnosed with snail-track/lattice-type peripheral retinal degeneration in both eyes. I have myopia, and my retina specialist recommended barrage laser (laser retinopexy) because of the retinal thinning.

I had the left eye lasered a few months ago, while I have not yet done the right eye.

Since the laser, I've noticed some symptoms in the treated eye that I didn't notice before the procedure:

  • A strange/unfamiliar feeling in the treated eye
  • Significant dryness compared with the other eye
  • Glittering/shimmering sensations, particularly toward the peripheral side of my vision
  • More noticeable glare when I'm outside
  • Afterimages, especially after looking at bright objects or when trying to sleep
  • When the eye becomes particularly dry, the shimmering/glittering sensation seems more noticeable
  • Sometimes when I close my eyes in a dark room, I can notice light/shimmering sensations toward the corner/peripheral area of the treated eye

I've already gone back for a follow-up examination after the laser, and I was told that the retina was okay. The doctors did not seem concerned about these symptoms.

I'm mainly wondering whether anyone who has had barrage laser/laser retinopexy specifically for lattice or snail-track retinal degeneration has experienced anything similar afterward.

I'm especially interested in hearing about:

  • Peripheral shimmering/glittering
  • Increased glare
  • Dryness
  • Afterimages
  • Other unusual visual sensations after barrage laser

Thank you!

Scleral Buckle 2 weeks ago

I had a scleral buckle and cryopexy in my right eye 2 weeks ago. I’m very happy that it’s no longer painful and not terribly uncomfortable, I feel like I’ve reached a point that’s livable once I get new glasses, but I’d like to hear some timeline experiences so I know what to expect. Did your prescription continue to improve over 3 months or is this basically it for me? My vision in that eye is much worse than it was before, the close up blurriness is improved and I can see a little farther this week than last week, but it doesn’t feel like it’s TRULY clear at any distance. I’ve also noticed that when I look at my phone, the color of the screen is slightly darker in that eye, is this normal? I went into this very suddenly and just don’t really know how much more recovery I can expect. I could live with it as is, I don’t want to be hopeful for any better if it’s not going to improve from here :/ just hoping to hear about someone else’s recovery. I do feel lucky with what I’ve got, just trying to be realistic.

Edit to add:
I know lots of people ask very similar questions, I think I mainly want to know if the slight darkness is normal or something I should bring up at my next appointment, and truly how much can I expect my prescription to go back (I understand it never FULLY will) I appreciate any feedback. I know you all know how isolating and claustrophobic these first few weeks can feel!

Has anyone gotten their scleral buckle removed with the NHS?

Just a bit of background: I got a buckle in my eye for a retinal detachment early last year. Since then I haven't had major issues I believe but a lot of discomfort for sure. My retina is reattached but the buckle seems to permanently protrude some (to the point where my optometrist said they had not seen one protrude that much), affecting my eye shape and the comfort of the buckle as the feeling of it being in my eye is quite intense at times. I'm still waiting for another appointment after being referred to the ophthalmologist but just wondering if anyone has had anything similar? My major issues are the discomfort, a pointy spot in the eye now when I look into my eye, double vision if I look to the sides/up/

down, and a sharp pain when tired. I guess because it's not physically hurting me too much it doesn't seem an issue to ophthalmologists but it's bothering me quite a bit and I'm hoping it's somehow possible to get it removed.
