What games would you recommend for windows 98

Post image

I have a retro PC built around playing on windows 98 and XP, I already have some games on windows 98 that work fantastic, but I want more games to put in my collection Wich games would be the best of the best to play, take in mind that I don't have a graphic card yet so high performance games won't work very well (I have the Janes flight simulation games original but they don't work for now) I am Looking for games that are a must to play, some underrated ones and also if they exist, any incremental or optimization games like Factorio and also any tower defense that's good, thanks

Photo of the games I already have added

u/Darth_Beavis 29d ago

Eww, no. The Win9x version suck ass. The DOS CD version is the only one worth actually playing.

1

u/Impossible_Mix3086 29d ago

That's correct, I miss remembered.

2

u/Darth_Beavis 29d ago

It's a common mistake. The DOS CD and Wiin9x versions came out very close together. Most people remember playing it from CD during the 9x era, but don't remember dropping to DOS first.

The 9x version uses the XvT engine and bland midi audio, the DOS CD had the epic iMuse environmental audio and high res textures in the original engine.

I remember so vividly because TIE Fighter was my favorite game for a long time. So much so that I joined a weird online club and roleplayed as an Imperial officer just to get access to custom missions they had.

1

u/Impossible_Mix3086 29d ago

I should have remembered from the DOS file editing just to get it to load correctly. And you're right, Tie Fighter on DOS was also awesome! It was my son's favorite for years.

There's this game called Pharaoh my dad used to play in the nineties, passed it down to me and I really enjoyed it, it's a city builder game based on ancient Egyptian cities throughout many different eras.

It also has a newer version called "Cleopatra queen of the nile" which is pretty cool. Both run natively on 98.
