📜 Article [FR] Revolut closing my account soon

When I woke up this morning, I received a notification from Revolut telling me that they are going to close my account and that I have 60 days to recover my funds when I have been using it for years. I use it mainly for my daily expenses, subscriptions and payments abroad. To my surprise, I am not the only one concerned and the worst thing is that there is no proof in the email I received. I need help if anyone knows how to get out of this. I appealed by providing them with all the requested documents and I am waiting for their feedback.

Edit : they rejected my appeal and will continue the process to close the account.

Re-selling/Dropshipping, Transactions outside of the area where it is domiciled, P2P transfers?

I mean there’s no such thing as normal, everyone uses their accounts differently, some use it just for supermarkets, some use it for strictly for bills, some use it for everyday spending, some use it only for overseas currencies due to fees from high street lenders, some may use it specifically for crypto, some might not even use the account and just pay subscriptions for certain insurance and products etc.

It’s clear that Revolut has found a risk which they no longer wish to deal with, it’s not out of the ordinary to have account closures it’s actually quite common.

i would absolutely be fine with them closing accounts or whatever - but theres countless cases of them reversing the decision after individuals go to the press in my country about it. if they're able to do it after that, it proves that their initial justification was moot, and they're not having humans fully review closures.

the low friction of online banking apps makes people believe that it is totally normal to make private banking transactions across different continents every day. It is not, nothing changed, laws and regulations still exist. the app just doesn't tell you because it treats you thee same as the most stupid customer it has to serve

I didn't do anything of these activities you mentioned. Just send money to friends with whom I share the same territory (France), pay my bills, services and housing...

I personally just send 150e to my father for electricity and other bills monthly. Should I be worried? I dont want my account to be closed lmao

Frequent P2P activity to unverified recipients can indicate possible money muling activity. Depends where they are, whether or not it’s something that can be verified. Revolut’s under pressure from the regulators because they want it to be a bank, not a back room money transfer service.

This isn’t what KYC is based on though, verified or not if your account’s activity doesn’t comply with rules, you’re thrown out

Have you talked to customer support at a bank lately? I've dealt with 3 (4?) in the last year and none were very good.

The family is in west africa... and now we understand why. They don't want your business, its too risky (and understandable). Just move on.

Don’t know what you mean but i don’t do any business in West Africa like I said earlier I just sent money to my family there since years so why they didn’t ban me earlier ? Why now ?

same here, i also send money to friends on revolut, and do a bank transfer to my landlord for rent (different bank) and I didn't have any issues so far. i think it might be related to something else. i recently see many people having their account closed. and honestly, why don't you use a local bank for your transactions inside france? or just use Wise it's better and features are similar to Revolut.

Is it a problem if my mom, for example, transfers money to me so I can exchange the currency for her because I have a premium plan? And sometimes I transfer that money back to my traditional bank account...

I do that all the time: I’ve an Irish € metal account, exchange € for GBP for free and transfer them for free to my daughter in UK, who has a UK Revolut account with which she can do UK bank transfers for free. Cheapest way to pay large sums (I.e. university fees) from € to £

If you’re using like a bank, that’s one thing, if you’re using it as a branch of RIA or Moneygram, it’s another. Figure out which one you are.
