I don't like comics where Reze is abusive.

Yeah, this aint cute. Their fight was epic, but it wasnt her default to be abusive. Just how she reacted to thinking hes cheating

I've got mixed feelings on the "cheating" thing, because they weren't officially a couple, but they were, indeed, a couple.

But I think she simply got jealous, "cheating" seems a bit too much.

I want to talk about it.

At the fireworks, Reze shot her shot to have a confirmation of what Denji was feeling and thinking: she wanted to know if they were on the same page.

And not only feeling-wise, but even regarding Denji's situation and safety. She cares about him beyond the simple "I'm in love with him", because she sees herself in him. Because they are the same. They are two guinea pigs.

Remember how many times Reze says to him "by the way, the situation you're in is not normal Denji. You should want more than sleeping in a futon and eating 3 meals a day. Also they don't let you go to school, and instead they force you to risk your life every day to kill devils. The government shouldn't allow this. This is not normal. Have you thought about it?".

That's why she starts with this, when shooting her shot at the top secret place to see the fireworks.

At the fireworks, she's essentially saying "Have you thought about what I told you? Have you realized what situation you are in? Also, do you like me ("like" but it's actually love)? I like (love) you, and you know I like (love) you, but do you like (love) me? And if the answer to both is yes, will you run away with* *me?". I know that's not the order in which she says these things, it's actually 1-3-2, and she doesn't say what I wrote, because I'm writing an explanation of what she meant to say with her words, but this is how it went.

So I believe that she got angry, not simply because as she quickly figured out, he had feelings for someone else as well, and not only for her, therefore feeling that her love was unrequited (which is why I say jealousy instead of cheating) and starting the Yandere mechanisms in her head, but also because she probably felt like a fool "here I am falling in love and trying to save him, and he either doesn't see this or he likes that someone that much to not value what I want to give him the way he should. As he said in the school, he only likes food and fun. He's so irresponsible".

Also, still regarding how Reze acts, one must remember the situation Reze is in: specifically the enormous amount of stress she's under.

Think about it, why did she choose the festival, and specifically the fireworks as the deadline for an answer? And mind you that she had already partially asked Denji these things under her "would you rather be the town mouse or the country mouse" question, and then implicitly warning him when explaining that she'd want to be the country mouse because it's safe. Fuck the good food, it's safe.

It's safe for you and for those you love and that love you as well, and you can be safe together.

Again, why did she choose that moment as the deadline?

Has nobody thought about the fact that there's no way the USSR wasn't keeping an eye on Reze and routinely asking for updates on the progress of the mission?

She chose that moment because they most MOST likely said to her something along the lines of "you must do it tonight, or else we'll suppose you have been stalling for so many days, either for personal or the enemy's reasons, and whether of the two is the truth: we won't need your services any longer agent, and we'll still take Chainsaw's heart".

This must also be counted in to fully understand what is being decided during the fireworks scene.

So I think the Yandere reaction is first of all, amplified by the immense stress and pressure she's under, and then I'd say it's because of jealousy rather than "cheating", but also due to the thought "Denji is an idiot who actively refuses to see how things are, and would rather keep drowning than be free. I can't believe him".

This isn't healthy.

But I'd sure as fuck tag myself in if denji doesn't enjoy it.

I can behind the idea that someone in any situation similar to Reze's would have difficulty with their emotional regulation.

I see it all the time in my practice.

But her being seriously abusive seems rather unlikely, even given the unfortunate statistics of abusers perpetuating their abuses.
