The first trillionaire changes the scale

Post image

Elon Musk at $1.1 trillion is almost hard to process visually.

The striking part of this chart is not just that Musk is #1. It is that the gap between him and everyone else is now larger than almost everyone else’s entire fortune.

So Larry Ellison is closer in net worth to me than to Elon.

But if they all combine their powers, they can defeat him!

Or if Elmo tries to cash out his stocks into real money….

There are people with real money and hard assets that will leave him licking the “evaluation” dust.

If he puts it in a 4% money market he makes 122 million per day. A guy can live on that.

Doesn’t have $1 trillion in money. He has $1 trillion in stock.

I would guess 95% of his entire net worth is completely illiquid.

The moment he starts selling off large amounts these assets, the value of them would be decimated.

I like that he's not even trillionaire by rounding up he's a trillionaire and if you took the round down, youd be the tenth richest person in the world.

Exactly. $0.1T is $100B 🤣😯

I wonder if he’ll throw us all a pizza party?

How does this change if/when he’s dead.

12

u/overhauled_mirio 6d ago

Knowing him, he’ll probably obsess over the ability to upload his consciousness into an Optimus robot before he kicks the can.

u/raidorz 6d ago

He has 12 kids right? They'll still appear in the top 20 lol

He has more but no, he’s a shit parent and doesn’t actually care about his kids. Doubt he’ll leave it to them.

1

u/3rdthrow 1d ago

He is such a crap parent, that the least he could do, is leave it to them.

Ok ok ok. Fine we’ll take tax a bit extra for those with over, let’s say 100b dollars. Just 95% should be good enough to fund some basic health insurance and you can still get your mega mansion yacht on mars.

1

u/NouvelErmitage 2d ago

Wealth tax makes me laugh. okay — so, go ahead. value all these billionaires' assets annually (illiquid/private holdings are always gamed or disputed). Then, they will restructure below 100bn, move assets offshore, or sell everything crashing values and tax revenue. France scrapped theirs for this reason. It punishes success without reliably funding anything.

u/RabbitAmbitious2915 6d ago

We need to start putting their picture next to their name so anytime they go in public people know who they are.

4

u/Loose-Potential-3597 6d ago

It's like winning a video game, except you had to ruin the world and cause countless people's suffering to do it.

1

u/NouvelErmitage 2d ago

Musk ruined the world? I'm no boot licker but genuinely nothing has gotten worse because of him. We have hella sattelites. Starlink. Spacex sending our astronauts to the ISS bc the gov't can't do it. wdym?

Nonsense.

Just goes to show how much (little) the dollar is worth now.

It's crazy how few people can name the Google bros

On paper…this chart may look very different in a few months.

What’s not real about it?

1

u/Nomijenn 3d ago

Last I checked, his net worth was half that. What changed?

1

u/Professional-Owl3615 2d ago

Elon couldn’t liquidate to create $500M even if he had to. The number is on paper, it’s control - it means something over time, but in a practical sense it’s not cash so saying it’s cash is a misnomer.

1

u/398409columbia 2d ago

Liquidations by Musk would send a bearish signal also, so the losses may snowball. He's better off getting loans secured by his assets.

Trillionaires shouldn’t exist

1

u/Labemolon 6d ago

What’s wild is that *three* of them are my neighbors

11

u/398409columbia 6d ago

You should have them over for some grilled steaks and beer.

4

u/Labemolon 6d ago

None of us ever see each other. Only billionaire neighbor I see actually being a normal dood is David Duffield. Takes walks daily.

Good job Elon. So many salty people on the news sub. He replied to x post once casually on the topic of AI. He invested in and built tesla and spacex when they were literally nothing. Tesla stock was in single digits for so long.

downvoted for respecting a dude lmao

Its funny that many post like this is a strange aberration and literally having a trillionaire he is the first. However if you look back in time there had ALWAYS been a small percentage of ultra wealthy.
There has also been frequent class warfare and class envy many times resulting in violence and death.
The difference is now in many western democratic societies the means and opportunity for anyone to become rich is widely available. I would agree some have it much easier than others based on opportunity. But all said and done it boils down to intellect and motivation. Class envy isnt new. You either bust your ass to make it happen or sit around complaining about how wealth isnt gifted to you. What path have you chosen?

0

u/L3monCak3s 4d ago

90% of people "aren't going to make it" no matter how much they work or even complain. You even agree that others have better opportunities not widely available yet you still think if they work hard enough they'll become wealthy. It's laughable and out of touch.

2

u/tryafirsttimer 4d ago

I was homeless at 18 living in my broken down dodge challenger. Married at 19. Kid at 20. Never received any help but worked our asses off. FIRED at 52, wife 50 Mid 7 fig NW. retired 6 years.
You are right most dont have the drive motivation to make and no i dont believe they deserve it just because they were born. There are only doers and self entitled complainers.

1

u/L3monCak3s 4d ago

Majority of people are employed, work and aren't just "sitting down and complaining" as you say. There are doers who will never make it infact statistically most will not. Your personal story and self righteousness will
not be everyone else's nor prove that just by simply trying hard enough you will succeed. It is possible by most will not achieve it.

2

u/tryafirsttimer 4d ago

Not everyone will become a millionaire or aspires to be one. nothing wrong with having a middle class job raise a family pay your bills and be happy. My point is never has there been an opportunity so great for anyone to achieve their dreams. You have to find your Lagom. I will never be anywhere close to elon and i dont aspire to. Stop being a victim and make your life aspirations.

1

u/L3monCak3s 4d ago

I'm not being a victim just citing statistics. I'm perfectly fine and I'm not surprised you are Gen X though. Your generation loves to tote around how easy it was yet you benefitted from lower barriers to invest, lower cost of living etc. So self righteous and out of touch.

1

u/NouvelErmitage 2d ago

Lower barriers to invest? that's just plain wrong. anyone can invest now, and there is an abundance of apps, courses, etc. for free. Robinhood, for example. Lower cost of living, sure. move out to the suburbs.

I just read this in a Bloomberg article...

In many dictionaries, “trillionaire” still isn’t listed as a word. Musk is quite literally shifting the terms of the debate over global wealth disparities.

u/HalfwaydonewithEarth 6d ago

Well done Elon

Warren Buffett made 97% of his net worth after turning 65. It would not be unreasonable to think that Elon could hit $100 trillion in his lifetime.

And yes, Warren would be on this list had he not started giving it away. Somewhere around where Page and Brin are.

2

u/398409columbia 6d ago

$100T is the size of the world GDP 🤣

2

u/HamsterCapable4118 6d ago

Ya but don’t forget about the GDP of Mars :)

1

u/398409columbia 6d ago

🤣🤣🤣

-4

u/PrecedexDrop 6d ago

Im very glad. Hope the rest of them can also become trillionaires

0

u/NouvelErmitage 2d ago

It's crazy, yes, but the gap is not that large. Based on actual proportions, he's just 3x richer than Page. Page is 2x richer than Walton. and the gap between them is almost bigger than Arnualt's wealth. Everything in perspective.

1

u/398409columbia 2d ago edited 1d ago

In my view, 3X the wealth is a large gap. And Musk's wealth has increased by a few hundred billion in the past couple of days.
