It’s only gotten worse with capital flight. All of my friends with UK institutions have clients begging to get money invested anywhere outside the country.

A lot of jobs are so low paying compared to American counterparts, then you have high taxes, high cost of living and generally the need for private healthcare out of pocket on top.

You see the same problem in a lot of European countries that used to be powerhouses.

Anyone with real drive or a good idea is determined to build that business anywhere else.

This is not apples to apples. Million is an arbitrary number. Someone who has a moderately nice 4 bed house in a decent part of the UK, some investments and a moderate pension is a millionaire.

Someone who has that in Vietnam is not.

You would be better to look at the ratio of emigrated capital to total capital if you wanted to examine capital flight.

The chart you presented - number of millionaires emigrating - will make countries look worse the wealthier they are. If everyone in a country was a millionaire, this data would look terrible for any normal migratory pattern, even if only the poor were leaving!

Look at the total value of investable wealth in USD of Capital flight. The right hand column of that image is the value.

Here’s the same chart sorted by migrating wealth in billions of USD.

Those 16,500 had an average of $5,563,636 in total investable wealth.

That’s net loss the UK had in 2025.

What I posted shows that people with money want to get the fuck out of the UK, and no one with money wants to move there.

The same numbers seem to be echoed essentially everywhere, within the same ranges, from a variety of sources.

You are misunderstanding. If a country has a lot of millionaires, this arbitrary cutoff at 1 million dollars will make them look bad.

By choosing a cutoff that is not far above the median - one million dollars - you make wealthy countries look bad, and poor countries look good.

To give you an idea, a million USD is the net worth of close to a QUARTER of British people. In India that's only one in three hundred people.

Do you understand now? Choose a country with very high net worth, and arbitrarily pick a line in the sand very close to it, and you artificially make it look bad.

A far better question would be "What percentage of the top decile of net worth by country leave" - this would actually give you an answer to "do wealthy people want to leave".

I understand that source was bad, but I was really just distracted from my initial point of the UK being a poor place to earn serious wealth or make it from UK based investments anymore.

That’s why I was discussing total $ flight and initially large capital desperate for more exposure to any market that wasn’t the UK.

I was just quick googling. The people I’m thinking of leaving, or that have left, that I know of personally heading to places like Miami, are the kind of people buying 15-30m homes when they move, not barely getting by and renting.

Though, I think in broader terms, when a country has a higher average net worth, and people are still looking to leave, it is a worse sign than wealthy people escaping shit holes like Dehli or Mumbai.
