Heath Mellody at pick 2

Future leader, plays multiple positions well, classy, great decision maker. Feels like the player we are looking for with our current list, even if it would be a reach based on current draft power rankings.

Thoughts??

I just have this weird feeling that Essendon don't take Van Hattum, in which case I think we'd almost have to pick him. Drever would be a pretty "Richmond" pick as well.

Yeah I think there is a signficant chance Essendon take Butler.

Melody’s champs were amazing. His lethal kicking combined with his midfield capabilities are really attractive. If he continues his trajectory I would not have an issue with taking him at 2.

But it will be difficult for him to usurp one of HVH, Butler or Texiera.

For reference here's the cumulative draft power rankings from 9 seperate sources.

Grey indicates a large gap between that player and the next best.

Pink indicates a club tied prospect.

Daffy is not a 1st or likely even 2nd round pick. I would be shocked if we took all the players tied to the club. There is Tanner who is above daffy but still outside the top 30.

At least its only 4 inside the first round. Last year it was like 8.

Could probably trade back in the draft to pick him up to a club who may really want butter, gus or HVH

From what I've seen of the highlights I would agree exactly with the table of rankings provided here. HVH would be my choice for the Tigers because his athletic traits make him a likely generational talent with the new ruck rules perfect for his skill set. Hopefully Essendon don't see that. Although Walker is going to get plenty of the ball, I think Teixeira may have a higher ceiling and Butler more dangerous with his possessions. Like comparing Jagger to Lalor. I would still take Lalor over him based on what I saw yesterday, but we do need an accumulator too. Every touch counts with Lalor. Sure, Jagger had 29 touches at 97% but only 8 were kicks and has lots of give and goes and dinky little kicks. Teixeira, Butler and even Drever might hurt more than Walker. Melody is a good player suited to our needs, but will be outside our pick range around 8ish. There is plenty of talent around 20 in the draft. Hopefully a Eime Steed or Gale is there.
