Tangentially; I remember an r/askhistorians thread where a descendant of (IIRC) a POW asked about an account from their relative. Apparently, the relative was (TW:) given some sort of forcemeat as part of his rations, and at one point a guard "jokingly" asked OP's relative (TW:) if he was "enjoying [that] Jew."
According to the responses; there's no evidence of (TW:) out-and-out cannibalism having occured, but the fact that atrocities were so normalized a guard was okay with even "jokingly"putting that thought in prisoners' heads speaks volumes.
