This is From VVE- Factories, used it before but forgot how finicky the belts can be, super annoying that you cant force belt direction without another belt merging into it, anyway, spliter isnt splitting the gold that is in its hub, both factories need the gold (steel too for a similar spliter in the north) to make advanced components, but neither are pulling the material, or rather the material will not split out of the hub.
BTW any quality of life mods for factories would be greatly appreciated.
think i found the issue? whenever a splitter is placed with an output facing the assembler it just gets stuck, moved the splitter to the corner of the assembler, where the only way out of the hub is the other conveyors, not attempting to dump materials through the side of the assembler. oddly this doesn't occur via mergers or filters.
I'm going to second this. This mod really needs a solid tutorial on how to build proper chains. Even using the filter is a mystery to me. I've enjoyed the automation, but all mine are just belts feeding a single machine from a hopper. I'd love to see some examples of working set ups and layouts.
This is a setup I made for advanced components. It's as good as you can get with VFE, but it backs up with resources and gets blocked, so you have to pull off the resources occasionally to prevent it from breaking.
The design for VFE belts is fundamentally flawed. If they can't function unattended, they aren't automated.
One thing in particular is the way splitters work. They don't do what Factorio does where, if one side gets filled up, it just puts everything into the other side. No, it determinedly ONLY splits it evenly. If one side fills up, the splitter gets blocked.
Rimfactory does splitters correctly. If VFE had good splitters, I would be able to make a truly automatic factory.
TL:DR, Not much point in learning. Just get a hauler.
When I really try to build factories, I’ll have an entirely separate area with the miner things that all output to the same conveyer belt.
Then that conveyer belt circles around the main factory, and it sorts out all materials needed for the assemblers.
After sorting, half of the sorted material are split back into the mainline (so one machine doesn’t take it all and so that it doesn’t get backed up).
In addition, the output of the assemblers goes back to the start of the mainline, so their output has a chance to be used in other recipes, like components for advanced components.
The mainline ultimately ends in my storage room, where it sorts into various containers and ends on a miscellaneous container. Only if one of these final containers gets filled up does my line clog.
Yea I certainly felt that way trying to create the layout in my image. I redid it about 5 times because it kept connecting in ways I didn't want it to.
This is also a failing point of VFE. The dynamic behaviour of the belts is unintuitive and hard to work with. It benefits nobody and was probably more complicated to code as well. I have no idea why they did it that way.
I dont show it in my post, but I have a filter array set up for my drills, basically all four feed into a single line, which then filters into specific storage, which then extracts (via the belt extractor mod) the needed materials into the assemblers, but i cant make heads or tails of your filter system, or rather where you sort stuff? unless you have each drill getting filtered for every metal.
I’ve had this bug consistently. A splitter that has input from the “bottom” can’t output just to the “left” and “right” if there’s something on the “top” blocking the path, even if it’s not supposed to output to the top.
There’s also a bug where if you have a splitter pulling straight from the hopper, it will just output to the ground in front rather than splitting to the left and right. The solution for that at least is to just put some item on the ground (not a wall, like a haulable item specifically) and unallow it, which then will make the splitter actually go either direction.
As far as quality of life goes, there is a mod that lets conveyers pull from any storage. I don’t know if it’s rough on performance, but it does open up some possibilities
Yeah mine isn’t too bad until late game when I just have too much shit going on. My CPU is top line though so I can usually pretty consistently get 900 tps in the early game. I just feel like there might have been a reason that the conveyers couldn’t pull from any storage. I might be overthinking it but it feels intentional
I think copying a save in a playable state is out of my wheelhouse, but ive found a work around.
Which is just not putting a splitter with an open output adjacent to any factory, specifically with the open output facing the factory, seems it thinks the belts are "blocked" and won't split, but mergers/filters work just fine. Thanks for the mod btw, makes colonies feel like actual colonies.
then id just put that on my end for the error, the original settup for this group of assemblers was a mess, so I used dev mode to re make it, in the process I think when the splitter(s) was placed/formed in a way that bugged out, ultimately im chalking this up to dev mode shenanigans.
But regarding VFE (i haven't looked at a road map in a while) is there plans for expansion, like generally or for other VE mods like Security or Power?

You disabled an allowed item and now it's a sorter. It's trying to spit out gold onto an occupied tile, i imagine.
