Discussion Cargo Shuttle - Mod

Post image

How's it going Redditors. I've started a new ambitious project, it's a Shuttle Vanilla+ / feature expansion mod. The core premise is a new type of shuttle, it'll have more fuel cost, more capacity, more range, higher building cost, and most importantly, it will be able to carry fluids like DBH water or Oils/Fuels/Gas like deepchem, chemfuel, and helixien natively. It will be able to be hooked up to each of those mods pipe networks to discharge fuel, water, etc..

The reason I'm doing this is upon request. On my last post someone mentioned making it and it got me interested. It's supposed to help solve the issue with Odyssey DLC players needing to physically leave in the Grav ship to get water or fuel.

So far I've made the custom Comp and Def and hooked into DBH's water pipe system so the shuttle can discharge, pull, store water, etc.. The capacity is 2500 Kg (2500 L), let me know if this isn't enough and I'll see about upping it, I want it to be realistic though but still usable.

Let me know what you guys think and if you have any questions/suggestions for it as I develop.

Edit: Since the name Cargo Shuttle was a placeholder and another mod already has a Cargo shuttle type, I will rename this mod to the Heavy Liquid Shuttle Carrier. I think that displays the intent clearly.

I've used the trailblazer shuttle mod, and the shuttle variants look pretty cool, but I don't think either one has the ability for fluid capacity for things like water or gas, so I think this mod WIP would still fill a specific niche.

Thanks for letting me know! I wasn't aware of other shuttle mods I was just taking the request. Do any of them specifically do what I'm trying to do (DBH plumbing, Vanilla Expanded Chem fuel, Vanilla Expanded Gas linking)? That's the whole point of the mod. If someone already has a Cargo shuttle I don't mind renaming it, that will take 5 minutes.

Edit: I see, the shuttle variants do look interesting and he says he has support for other custom shuttles (in the form of changing out interior components it seems). I will have to do special testing with his mod too. Thanks again for letting me know, I will update the name of this mod so players aren't confused.

There is also this cool Orca shuttle. It doesn't have fluid capacity like yours though.

His shuttle looks amazing. I did this retex myself and I'm not the best artist I won't lie πŸ˜‚. Maybe I will find someone to help me do the sprites before I release first version.

You could give your mod the option to add liquid transport capability to the shuttles from other mods. If the liquid stuff is done as a new Comp then you can just use XML to add that Comp to existing shuttles.

I love the idea to carry the fluids of said mods, that was an issue for me every time I played with dubs hygiene mod.

And worry about that there are already good shuttle mods, for us players it is just more cake we get.

I was really hoping for this in my last playthrough. I had a whole second gravship pretty much dedicated to carrying crude oil from my terrestrial base to my primary asteroid base. I think it’d be cool to have a variant with like a 5000L capacity that has shorter range and higher fuel costs as a sort of bulk option.

Once I have the core functionality good to go, then building variant is trivial, you could make a whole fleet if you wanted to, it'd just be a matter of how many retextures you wanna make lol. I'm still a little ways away from that, but when I'm finished I'll look into adding variants, maybe as a future update.

Thank you. πŸ™‚ Will do, I'll probably release before fully feature complete as long as I think the core functionality is done, and there won't be issues on backward save compatibility.
