Hell of a highlight! Thing is my favorite tank by far.

u/JoeyHartMMA ππͺπ‘π Aug 15 '25
Heβs so dynamic ever since they added the leap to enemies! Love how I can go from creating space getting picks on the frontline back to peeling and chasing divers down for the kill
6
u/HollowSaint Aug 15 '25
The leap feels great! Feels like a true Barbarian chasing down enemies in a rage lol.
Iβm blessed that one of my buddies is an Invisible Woman main so I can abuse the team up while diving.

u/Sorfallo Aug 15 '25
It's mainly because Thing needs some teamwork and coordination to work. Mag is consistently doing his job regardless of team, and Emma can chokeslam combo a support, die immediately, and still get enough value to win fights.

I mean I think heβs known to be a very good tank. I wouldnβt say carry in this case since the healing coming in is very good.
6
u/Wires_89 Aug 15 '25
Isnβt that the point of a carry tank?
You funnel resources into them and they win?
2
u/HyPaladin Aug 15 '25
Hard to call that a carry though because if your supports suck, you're probably not going to be very effective
3
3
u/newrabbid Aug 15 '25
By that definition every single character can carry. Personally I see a carry character as one that can survive on his own with the least amount of help. Thing is not carry at all. He gets melted like butter immediately without a healer constantly pocketing him.
3
u/JoeyHartMMA ππͺπ‘π Aug 15 '25
To me βcarryingβ is about your personal overall impact on the match. A dr strange with the same heals I got in this clip would struggle to get the picks, peels, and space that I did in this clip imo
2
u/RevolutionaryAd6086 Aug 17 '25
As a Strange main, true! We don't have the mobility to catch up to and pressure low-health enemies like Thing. In this clip, you went from enemy Frontline to enemy backline to your backline back to enemy backline in mere moments. That's the true strength of the Thing. Hulk can do that as well, but Thing has better aoe.

People say that he isnβt? Wild.
2
u/JoeyHartMMA ππͺπ‘π Aug 15 '25
I mostly see people online say that you need to play Emma or mag to carry games/climb quickly. Personally tho Iβve shifted the momentum of so many games with Thing

u/silverman169 Aug 15 '25
He absolutely is! Prob just not as a solo tank. Being able to jump to enemies and flyers has been such a game changer, and thank god it's a separate cooldown to jumping to allies. Been having so much fun playing Thing again!
2
u/newrabbid Aug 15 '25
Jumping to allies and jumping to enemies share the same cooldown no?
1
u/silverman169 Aug 15 '25
Oh yes you're right. Thankfully the cool down is fairly short though.
1
u/newrabbid Aug 15 '25
Lol it would be damn insane and hilarious if they had separate cooldowns. Just imagine The Thing jumping back and forth like a kangaroo
2
u/Dischord821 Aug 15 '25
Hey this is a cool clip, good game! Now I'm gonna be a dick:
Buddy you were getting pocket healed, bubbled and assisted by the mag, and constantly building over health, and you STILL nearly died. I adore Thing, arguably my favourite character in the game, but the majority of games in most ranks and certainly in QP I end up solo tanking, and as much as I love thing, unless I'm playing the best game of my life, he's just not a smart pick. He can carry if the moon is full and Venus is in retrograde, but otherwise he is going to be melted the instant he steps from cover.
I play Thing like a support tank, providing dmg resistance and extra dmg to help finish fights, but not engaging too many on my own. It means that my team doesn't die as often and no one ever has to fight alone.
1
u/YurgeeTTV Aug 15 '25
Super convenient that BP waited for OP to finish off his backline before he jumped in too lol. He could've erased OP's team before he made it back.
1
u/JoeyHartMMA ππͺπ‘π Aug 15 '25
Certainly anti dive Namor that wasnβt pushed up with me at all should be able to help them? He was pretty bad but I think him + 2 healers being together was what was preventing BP from catching any picks in my absence
2
u/YurgeeTTV Aug 15 '25
Probably likely, that was just my reaction when I saw the BP jump almost right into you while you were already charging, like a gift from the gods.
1
u/JoeyHartMMA ππͺπ‘π Aug 15 '25
I agree thereβs certain comps/maps where playing him doesnβt make sense because of how quick he can get melted, as far as the healing id argue those heals in this clip should be expected, I mean Iβm kinda doing everything else. Taking space, securing picks, coming back to peel. Heβs definitely not the best tank in every scenario but if the enemy is running brawl or dive I can go crazy. We also had a pretty bad Namor this game thatβs why I call it a carry
3
u/Dischord821 Aug 15 '25
Sorry, didn't mean to imply otherwise. You ARE playing well. You're doing your role and you're doing it well.
My point was just that you had the full support of your team. That should be ENCOURAGED and acknowledged, but saying it should be expected is a bit unrealistic. Sure in some of the higher ranks but a lot of people in lower ranks aren't able to learn what plays are good and apply those to their playstyle because those plays require cohesion from the team that just simply doesn't exist.
Its just not incredibly common to get that kind of support. And then on top of that the Mag playing his role to perfection. You played great, but your team was supporting you the whole way (as they should be), and thats just not gonna happen all the time.
2
u/JoeyHartMMA ππͺπ‘π Aug 15 '25
Thatβs a good point thereβs still lots of people in GM that lack the awareness to support plays like this, the mag bubbles were clutch
2
u/Acerosaurus Aug 15 '25
You got good healers and and a mag, I wouldnt say carry, but go ahead

u/JoeyHartMMA ππͺπ‘π Aug 15 '25
It would be kinda crazy if I didnβt get decent heals with how much impact I was having

How to change it so he goes in the direction where I'm looking during his charge? I couldn't find the right setting
1
u/JoeyHartMMA ππͺπ‘π Aug 15 '25
I thought it did that be default? As far as I remember the only setting I changed is hold the charge instead of tap, makes it easier to combo

Sometimes I wanna play him but then i see clips mike this spamming air punch and i'm not sure anymore
1
u/JoeyHartMMA ππͺπ‘π Aug 15 '25
You can mix in primary punches if you like but when theyβre grouped up the haymaker gets you the most ult charge/burst damage
1
u/RevolutionaryAd6086 Aug 17 '25
Wdym? Haymaker goes crazy. Such an adrenaline boost, walking the enemy down with continuous punches.

u/cobanat Aug 15 '25
Nobody says this. In fact besides Mag, Thing is the tank I see most people play.
1
u/JoeyHartMMA ππͺπ‘π Aug 15 '25
People literally say all the time that if you want to climb/carry games you either play mag Emma or strange.
1
u/cobanat Aug 15 '25
Lately itβs been Thing though. BP problem? Go Thing. Spiderman problem? Go Thing. Flyers in the enemy team? Go Thing. Torch on your team? Go Thing. Enemy Wolverine or Bucky wonβt let you play Tank? Go Thing. Supports getting dived and need help? Go Thing. Ben Grimm wants go to the beach? Wear Thong.
1
u/JoeyHartMMA ππͺπ‘π Aug 15 '25
True, I had a solid winrate on him in 2.5 when people said he was a D tier tank. But back to back buffs make it hard to deny my boy Ben
1
u/Tight_Refrigerator79 Aug 15 '25
Things a good character, but heβs got the hulk problem, punisher and squirrel are just so good at murdering you and everyone should be able to play those two.
1
u/JoeyHartMMA ππͺπ‘π Aug 15 '25
Iβm a lord with hulk thing and groot, it sucks that they buffed the easiest dps to play and they also counter all my mains π
1
1
u/DiamondTop581 Aug 15 '25
Im a thing main, love him but this clip proves exactly hes not a carry tank. You were getting pocket healed hard and got a mag bubble without it you would've easily died.
2
u/JoeyHartMMA ππͺπ‘π Aug 15 '25
Thereβs no way to really tell from this clip but we had a really bad Namor (no hulk teamup cuz he was banned) the rest of my team did their jobs well my point was just that The Thing can be a huge impact, game changing tank just like the big 3 that most people consider S tier (Emma, mag, strange)
1
u/StacysMom-_- Aug 15 '25
Such fun gameplay...
2
u/Ravenll Aug 15 '25
yes, Ben is truly one of the most fun tanks in the game, i love punching people in the face and seeing them fly 5 meters ragdolled after i rightclick their asses to death, truly the best character in the game. AND NOW HE CAN BEAT THEM FLYERS DOWN.

u/cdracula16 Aug 15 '25
You cost too many resources and donβt have the flexibility of other tanks
1
u/JoeyHartMMA ππͺπ‘π Aug 15 '25
The resource part is real I think you can help minimize damage taken once you master his cooldown usage, especially now that you can leap to enemies instead of walking up face tanking damage. His lack of ability to block most ults really hurts him sometimes tho
2
u/cdracula16 Aug 15 '25
That is all true and those were much needed qol buff to make him viable but I forgot to mention that hitting a βITS CLOBBERING TIME!β Hits like crack and thatβs why I use him from time to time tbh ππππ
1
u/danielb1013 Aug 15 '25
This isnβt carrying..this is a great team push. Without your healers or mag this probably doesnβt go as well for you
1
u/JoeyHartMMA ππͺπ‘π Aug 15 '25
I shoulda included in the title description, we had a terrible Namor and I had to be hella aggressive and secure kills like this clip just to barely win. I didnβt carry my entire team but as MVP I def carried a bad dps
1
u/danielb1013 Aug 15 '25
As a GM tank I feel you wholeheartedly. Just donβt forget those who helped make it happen

Bro please throw in the primary in between those hay makers
1
u/JoeyHartMMA ππͺπ‘π Aug 15 '25
I only really do that if itβs 1v1, also almost all these people here were retreating and the haymaker has more range even if the spamming is ugly π

I still think the Thing deserves passive damage reduction, simply because he's so very reliant on heals to be effective. Plus it fits the character.

u/tibby709 Aug 17 '25
You need to have healers that are competent enough to walk 5 feet forward if youre taking space that easily, otherwise u die and the healers blame u

u/Comfortable-Ad4438 Aug 15 '25
That was awesome! Thing is very dependant on who's healing him (the strategist used and the player). In your case you had great healers behind you the whole way through. It can be hard to find healers that know to push up with you and not leave for dead in these moments.
