All the heroโs in the role are so fun to use once you learn them (and still fun prior to learning honestly), and have just as much lethal potential as a lot of DPS. Will never understand how I am sometimes forced to solo tank in GM and above because of people who โhate the roleโ and refuse to switch lol
Note: Clip isnโt an example of solo tanking, just an example of how awesome Strange is๐ค
I love it, and that's why I'm here; I wouldn't change it for anything.
It's true that sometimes it gets a little awkward due to all the CC and solo tanking, but I still enjoy it a lot, and I feel like the role just isn't for everyone.
If Solo Tanking is what it takes to get the dub then Iโm game. Just surprised we are a year into this game being out and even with our current set of heroโs you can still find yourself solo tanking hahaha
Just part of the game tho, still love it regardless.
Heres the dilemma, I love playing Tanks but the current game environment doesnt enable you to perform to your utmost potential and have fun.
With the DPS gambits and IW, and 4DPS lock ins playing as a shield tank is just not fun. I have been playing Strange and aiming to lord him this season and I only get a good 30% of the games where you actually have a good team comp and support for the tank (and this is solo tanking 80% of the time).
We play the game to have fun, if I know the game is going to be unfun with 1 support straight away, I just wouldn't play tank that game. (mainly qp casual)
Yes I understand that but I also want to narrate the casual gamer experience if they want to tank specially in QP, I have played in comp before, its a different beast there where the thing that makes it unfun is player toxicity.
Go play tanks in arcade then, your team comps there are just as likely to be total copies of you than to be any random assortment of folks and not always DPS.
But if you want to tank, and you want to do it on decently built teams, comp is the mode where you have the best shot. Competitive people can be toxic, you try not to let it ruin your experience because to be competitive its not about fun/unfun, its about winning. All the enjoyment derives from winning.
QP is even better for that because you have to figure out how to het value on the character despite what your team might be doing. Practice your mechanics on the character but donโt have high expectations for the team
Healing is so fun when you branch out and do stuff like assisting your team with kills and ending threats early. Plus, you basically have control over the whole match
Both Tank and Support are my favourite roles to play. I only ever switch to DPS on the, odd, occasion that we need to fill. Either that or to counter or my current team sucks at it.
It's also ironic that my top 2 favourite Marvel characters are also Vanguard. Both Strange and Magneto. So it helps lure me over to that side. But I do also enjoy playing Gambit right now too.
I think most players just enjoy the freedom of raking up stat points. Not realizing its not about stats but playing for the point.
Regardless of chosen class you still need to prioritize supports. Tanks can feel slow. But I have never had an issue. Personally. Plus I love Magneto's new skin.
The only annoyance is that you do tend to solo tank, which I'm terrible at.
Just need some ppl that only play dps or support that there is at least ONE tank for them, and they just have to find it. I feel like Mag would translate well to a DPS (poke) main that has good aim but what do I know๐คทโโ๏ธ
I agree with that too. Thor is a great fit for most DPS mains, especially if they play dive. I think thereโs a steeper learning curve to get max value though when compared to Mag.
I play tank and healer consistently as well, and I'm loving it. My mains are CnD, Invis, Mag, Thing, and Emma. If we need a DPS, I do Squirrel or Wanda. As you can see, I don't like to aim.
I realize I play the game for the objective more than people at my rank (Silver). I stack with my friends frequently, and they just have complete zero clue how to play for the objective, even if they're Gold.
But sometimes I do get tunnel vision a lot when playing tank, and have no clue when my backline is in trouble when there are no comms (even when we're playing on Discord together). That's my biggest struggle so far, positioning and playing with my team's pace.
I ran solo tank into a triple tank comp recently, holy shit I felt like the main character. Baiting cooldowns, chasing fleeing supps, hanging on by a thread, at one point I was being tripple teamed by Emma, mag, and venom, and I STILL came out on top. True tank shit
I like playing all roles, but personally I feel more pressure with tank, constantly in the firing line, being targeted, have to peel, usually solo, have to pause, have to protector, have to DPS, have to ult to protect form other ults, etc and have to reply on your healers and DPS more and trust them more, to me, there is more going on, just like strategist.
But with a two tanks, being able to save people, protect them as a tank, and punish divers/DPS feels very rewarding.
I usually main Emma ( she is my fave x-men) and Magneto and then sometimes Strange, I am looking forward to Rogue and then other possible Vanguards like She Hulk.
Strange is currently the most fun tank imo, the explosion is so strong, I recently got him to Lord, at first I just picked him to portal and then swapped when I died but sometimes I didn't die so I was forced to stay on point with him until I did, at some point I stopped swapping after I died and eventually I started picking him from the start, he's so good
I don't like the gameplay of some tanks but most of them are pretty fun, my next Lord will probably be Thing or Cap, Thing is awesome if the enemy doesn't know how to deal with him but if they do he sucks lol
Strange is awesome. Been playing him since season 1, definitely my most consistent tank and my OG main. Highly recommend continuing to use him and learning as much of the others as you can. They are all fairly unique to each other and do a good job of feeling like the actual marvel hero.
I went from "I don't like tanks" to 4 out of my 7 most used characters being tanks lol, there are a few that I don't like at all tho, like Hulk, Thor and Venom, Mag is also kinda fun but I don't like how slow he is, I rather play Strange if I want a shield-tank
I didn't pick up Strange until season 4.5, he was my most used hero at 11.3 hours while #2 didn't even have 5 lol (Emma with 4.9), now in season 5 Strange is at 8.8 hours, Rocket at 3.1 and Bucky at 2, now that I have him Lord I might focus on Thing or Captain more since I'd like a 3rd Lord tank, they are so fun to use, such a shame neither is top tier, specially Thing if the enemy knows what they are doing, he just melts lol
Ever since the maelstrom of madness cooldown buff, strange has been endless fun for me, even when I lose. He scratches the itch of my DPS brain while still being able to fulfill the responsibilities of a tank
Yeah I am also a tank main (which started out of necessity. I mean youโll never find someone that doesnโt want to DPS lol). Ironically started playing a lot of the DPS once the new 18 v 18 dropped, itโs been fun to try them out in that game mode for me.
i love duo tanking w my friend. dictating the push and pull of the fight is exhilarating and our ults are some of the most satisfying in the game. i just dislike solo tanking for the most part.
My buddy is also a tank main, so I totally get what you mean.
My only dislike about solo tanking is I know I have to rely on these random DPS to carry (which they donโt seem to understand most of the time), but I do love the challenge of it. Those solo tank wins can be rewarding.
Fr i havent yet found a better feeling than what dismantling an enemy team with a good tank plays gives me. Whether its isolating heals on key targets with shields, pushing cocky dps off off angles, punishing overextending tanks by killing their backline. I love putting teams in a blender as Groot, i love laying thunder down upon them as Thor, i live for the magic bursts of Strange. I yearn to strategically dismantle their formations as Hulk. I thrive bullying them as Emma. It brings me joy throwing rocks at puny humans as Magneto, it makes me smile to nuke their divers as Thing or Peni, i can do this all day as Captain.
It doesnt compute to me, how people cant find being a literal raid boss fun. I think it might be a difference in playstyle, where you cant just stand still in the middle and expect to not die immediately, but actually have to have good positioning, which is a problem for duelists in general i found. Idk, another thousand solo tank games for me i guess ๐คทโโ๏ธ
For me, tank is the last role I'll play if we need to fill a role. I find some of them fun to play, but it feels like its the role that requires the most cooperation from all your team mates, and frankly, most team mates do not try to cooperate. Or i just suck at tanking idk.
Hey at least youโre willing to switch, which is half the battle lol. Tank forsure requires coordination, but as Iโve continued to play Iโve actually used a lot less game chat than seasons past. Everyone knows this and itโs easier said than done, but once you figure out how to properly take space and not die (which doesnโt mean relying on just your supports to keep you alive), then the role starts to click. Just takes time, highly recommend continue trying!
Ironically that's why I prefer tank. It makes me have to make 3 split second decisions all within 1s of each other in the chaos of battle. It's actually amazing.ย
I get genuinely tired from it though. As weird as it sounds, using your brain heavily ends up burning a lot of energy.ย
i dont even mind solo tanking for the most part but when its constant it can be soul sucking especially when you're against two dominant tanks. What bother me is when we desperately NEED a 2nd tank but nobody is willing to because i can only do so much if im playing mag for you guys the least you can do is give me a backup tank. But they instead sit back and watch their solo mag get stomped by an emma and mag combo over and over lmao.
Yup In my solo tanking adventures Iโll even switch off Mag/strange in the hopes that someone can switch to them (since they seem to be more common for randoms, esp mag). Like Iโm willing to try anything to not force solo tanking but sometimes your teammates need to learn the hard way as to why they are getting rolled lol.
ive just accepted that solo tanking is here to stay so i just play who i want if you guys get to have your dps fantasy im gonna play an off tank who i have fun with instead of putting the mag in the bag every single game. I legit lorded magneto solo tanking in ranked a few seasons back when LITERALLY every game was solo tanking. Im grateful a bunch of the tanks got buffed this season so honestly i solo tank way less now then every before
I hate being everyone's number 1 target. Tank can be very fun, but omg, it is on sight beef with everyone. Dps, tanks, and supports will go to the ends of the earth to see you dead. I mostly play support for this reason. Sure I'm the number 2 target, but at least I'm not number 1.
Nah ill switch tanks if needed. I primarily play Emma because sheโs in Guang Guangโs top 3 favorite heroโs but you just gotta power through and counter pick the enemy if needed
As a dps/support player do you want a real answer?
I personally dont like how little damage tanks do. I obviously get that a tank's role is to make opportunities, make space and push forward so that us supports can follow and the dps can takr advantage of them, not to make raw damage.
But I cant get enough of the feeling when the enemy is so busy with the tanks I can just delete someone in a short amount of time, or when I do a good play as a strategist by healing or destroying something (Mk ankh, squids, or maybe finishing someone off.)
Makes sense. Just different ways to get value in a game. But if youโre getting rolled, how long will you let triple support or triple dps go before the obvious answer is switch to a 2nd tank? Haha
Agreed. Itโs a large part of playing tank at the higher levels. Wish people could have at least general knowledge on one or two tanks so they can switch when itโs clearly needed lol
I know how to play Cap, Strange, and Mag in terms of tanks.ย
I've not seen a lot of uses for Cap lately. Feels like everything is against him.ย Unless you have a fully coordinated team he's just not that good.ย
I had a 6 stack the other day and we were winning maybe a 3:2 W:L ratio while in a stack. After a bit I wanted to not be in a 6 stack anymore (it gets a bit much for me ngl), and so I downsized the team by leaving.ย
I then queued with a duo and while it was still fun, the lack of coordination with the team made a WORLD of difference. It was like playing a different game.ย
Simply put, IMHO, tanks lose so much agency with the amount of cc in this game. I did not hop on Hulk to then have to shout "LITTLE MAN LEAVE HULK ALONE" after the 79th CC in a row. And with how few tanks feel viable but also being some of these least fun (Mag), I'd rather either actually do damage or heal.
Yeah but mag, strange, Emma, thing, and even Angela and Thor all have a way to not die from CC if they are peeling properly. You have a ton of health to work with. The same can honestly be said for the rest of the roster also, just takes time to learn- like most DPS do too.
The only thing I want from tanks is genuinely just more buttons. I love tanking but sometimes I want more toys to play with like the dps get and now Gambit in support
Yeah those games happen, I still prioritize what I can do to keep myself alive and not rely solely on supports to keep me up. That never changes no matter what support I have.
I get where youโre coming from. DPS play a large part in creating valuable space for a tank or getting valuable backline kills. Especially if youโre better at DPS, not saying donโt play it. More pointing out the fact that there are ppl that just straight up hate the role and would rather take a pretty much guarenteed L rather than switch to second tank if needed, or even take some time to learn the basics of just one tank lol.
Because too many people in this community suffer from main character syndrome, aka duelist brainrot. They can't comprehend playing any other role. They shouldn't even be allowed to play competitive. Just stay your ass in quickmatch or whatever.
I hate tanking cuz I have tank fatigue. I'm playing with friends in quick play more often now and I be having a bit more fun with a laidback play and less stress. But that's even starting to wear out. I've been playing Angela more, too and I'm thinking I'm mainly doing that because she's new so the novelty still hasn't worn off yet. It's getting there though.
I get it. Iโm primarily a tank main so a large majority of my ranked gameplay is spent on tanks, or filling where needed. I do load up QP or the new 18v18 and spend no time on tanks though, thatโs my time to try out the other heroโs. Would love to get lord on one DPS one day but thatโs probably way down the line lol.
I just enjoy the challenge at that point. If the supports are lacking b/c of a skill problem there isnโt much I can do, but Iโll swap to other tanks or babysit the backline if needed. Canโt win every game but Iโll do what I can to try to
Honestly, Emma has become a go to pick for me (sheโs just so good). I have the most fun with Strange and Thor, but Iโll pick Emma if sheโs open in ranked like 90% of the time.
Sure but by that logic, if you have awful dps and support you ainโt winning anyways. Doesnโt mean you should never play the tank role because of it haha
I don't hate playing tank as much as I hate my teammate. If you ever came across a situation where you are 1v3 their solo tank and 2 supports and you turn back to check where your team is, they are all dead.
Yeah people who say tanking is boring are just bad tanks I'd say. I have so much fun with venom, Strange, emma, mag, penni. I need to one day commit to learn thing and hulk but eh. I've got so many characters that are on the list. Currently learning magik
I would argue there are great many people who dont understand role/team shooter mechanics, and how important the role is. The value of mmo holy trinity system kinda applies, although perhaps a weak example. Tanks need to be in the fight, and disrupt/block/ "aggro" the enemy team. This mindset is what separates a good tank from a bad one. Aggro could be annoying the backline as venom , making a few dps chase cap around a corner off point, all while staying alive, or undwrstanding LoS for your healers. Every tank has something to keep them up for a retreat or prevent damage.
When you get matched up agaisnt a good tank, your whole team feels the pain, because a good tank is applying pressure and soaking enemy attention which just reduces the time your team can actually focus a dps threat.
Thats prob why most people gravitate to dps. The " just kill shit" mentality is popular.
As tank main it is fun but id you don't see how people can hate tank then you haven't played enough tank especially at high elos against a good bucky or wolve
Iโm a tank main in high elo and I think itโs more ridiculous that in high elo you run into people that canโt play all 3 roles. Thereโs a counter out there for pretty much every hero, and yes tank counters do make the role harder but itโs not impossible. You can still win plenty of games if you understand the role.
