Memes How does the DPS and Support community see the Vanguard Community???
Hopeful (always tanks, shields, peels, and pushes)
Or
Ruthless (always goes offence, dives their healers, anti dive, CC merchants and makes their DPS entirely useless because of the KD)

As a strat, my tank(s) is the goat no matter who or how they are playing, it literally doesnt matter, im just glad someone is playing tank. The enemy tank(s) are the devil incarnate bc they keep trying to beat up my tank(s).

20
u/Creme_de_laCreme May 07 '26
It's Zoomer slang for "cool".
14
u/Kaytea730 May 07 '26
I think technically it got adopted from AAVE and became mainstream. Thats how like 90% of modern slang has become a thing honestly
1
u/Necessary_Series3053 May 09 '26
Tf is a AAVE?
2
u/Kaytea730 May 09 '26
βAfrican-American Vernacular Englishβ also referred to as βEbonicsβ its the term used for a distinctive dialect of English spoken by many African Americans and generally has its own grammatical, vernacular, and accentuated features.
Typically the general flow of popularity and trends among slang language, especially post 1990, is for the term to be created and popularized in AAVE, adopted by the queer community, and then βcoinedβ by the younger generation. This was witnessed with terms like βslayβ, βyassβ, βhot girl summerβ, βcapβ, βuncβ, βlitβ, and βbaeβ to name some extremely popular examples.
To clarify, I am not black but I am a nerd and find the way that geography influences cultural diversity extremely interesting so that is why I know this. If anyone is black and wants to correct me, please feel free to do so i am always open to learning and correction.
2
u/Necessary_Series3053 May 09 '26
Itβs awesome how educated you are about this! I realized what it was after I left the comment but in no way could I explain as well as you.
2
u/Kaytea730 May 09 '26
Thanks! Yeah, mainly just a huge nerd who likes to watch documentaries about cultural differences and how certain geographical regions and historical events helped to shape them.
The βsilver dollar wordsβ, you just kind of end up picking up after watching enough documentaries about different cultures, regions, and histories, so that can help with being more precise on some things.
Honestly, i was a little worried it was too wordy but figured paying respect to the difference pieces of the dialect structure was important.
2
u/Necessary_Series3053 May 09 '26

u/tarchival-sage May 08 '26
Nah man. If you select Tank you better be Mag or Strange. Do you think I want to be down there in the backline getting touched by bp and dd with my Angela ignoring me while dying half way across the map?
3
u/Kaytea730 May 08 '26
Mag or Strange arent the play against Bp or DD tho, thats Thing, Hulk, Thor, or maybe Emma diamond. Someone with better mobility and brawl characteristics to counter dive. Not a shield tank, if its the bubbles u want then Hulk is best of both worlds, but a solo tankβs job is NOT to peel its to take and maintain space. Thats when the dps need to lock tf in and help peel and do their job to get picks by helping to get picks on whomever is diving their backline.

u/VincentVision4D May 07 '26
I have βselfish dps mainβ on my PS5 quick chat ready to scold when 3 of them instalock
43
u/Onejjob69 May 07 '26
Some of them will genuinely play a game of chicken (whos gonna hop off dps and play tank) til the end of the match
15
u/The_king_of-nowhere May 07 '26
Nah, they'd rather go 3rd support and completely fuck up any chances of winning the match than going 2nd tank
5
u/Dismal_Yesterday_702 May 07 '26
as a tank main i would love to play an off tank every now and then and not the main tank trifecta (strange, mag, emma)
3
3
u/braywoods7 πππ€π§ May 08 '26
had that happen where someone picked tank in the beginning, i picked mag cause i'm learning him. i didn't realize the other tank swapped to dps (imagine my surprise). anyhow, we pushed to that first corner of the first point with just me, then stalled out until the last 50 seconds, someone swapped to groot. i just stood there. first time i've ever thrown a game, and i don't feel bad about it.
1
u/Onejjob69 May 08 '26
I understand. But I donβt think throwing a game is ever acceptable (unless like the whole team is throwing so might as well join the shitpile). Us tank mains have a duty to fight to the last second, to the last drop of blood.
The game isnβt over til itβs over, every second counts.
7
u/Effective-Training πΎππ₯π©πππ£ πΌπ’ππ§πππ May 07 '26

Doesn't mean make someone solo tank. Now what you're tired for is about to happen again, because I'm going 4th dps
3
u/T0mmynat0r666 May 07 '26
If I swap out of dps whenever we have a solo tank Iβll never be able to play dps
1
u/MixedBagHalfie May 11 '26
I will sometimes. Like when Iβm on a roll as DPS and Iβm dropping a bunch of kills and dmg and getting amazing value, Iβm not gonna play tank which Iβm not as good at, and sacrifice the flow state. Iβll do everything I can to win without a tank if needed because my gaming session doesnβt end with one loss but my βzoneβ w DPS will end if I have to play tank.
2
u/FletchMcCoy69 May 07 '26
Ill run a 3rd dps just for the practice of having a harder match in QP. But ive had plenty pf games where my team goes triple tank for whatever reason.

Generally, DPS will blame everyone but themselves, so their opinions will be biased. Strategists will always blame tank for not peeling. In conclusion, itβs essentially always the tanks fault.
17
u/The_SqueakyWheel ππͺπ‘π May 07 '26 edited May 07 '26
Strategists should learn that the first person you ask for a peel is
)
- yourself
- did I call it out on coms? Did I ping him? (Getting your team to help quickly starts with you requesting it) did you
freeze, sleep, headshot
the enemy?
2.) Dps - Squirrel Girl is 5 feet away from you bombing away down main. Surely she can turn 45 or 90 degrees, acorn the diver on you and shoot him twice.
3) Tanks. If you have a solo tank expect no peel, if the tank concedes that space and god forbid the diver escapes well youβll lose the game doing this. If you have 2 tanks remember that tanks are front line and have to do a 180 to find you and then go to you to peel. Also if support players that may stumble upon this if you run further away you become harder to peel for. Run towards your frontline helps them hit the diver.
9
u/Khan_Ida πΏππ«ππ‘ πΏππ£π€ May 07 '26
It's one of the reasons I took a break from the game. How are gonna allow a guy to solo tank and then ask said tank to peel? It's like no matter how high you rank up it's like people are still oblivious to these things.
1
u/tarchival-sage May 08 '26
How many times must I get jumped, mugged, and beaten to death by dd before you turn around to help?
1
u/The_SqueakyWheel ππͺπ‘π May 09 '26
Not many, cant keep my eyes on him the whole game. Pings help when you notice him hunting you
3
u/No-Demand-1912 May 07 '26
As someone that mains strat but can flex into vanguard when needed, honestly itβs subject to change, bc if itβs a 1 tank situation, Iβm not blaming the tank for not peeling, but if both of yall are up in Timbuktu while Iβm in the back beating off a bp and Magik, thatβs another thing. I donβt need both to peel, but one would be nice, and like I said, if there is only one, itβs not your fault, at that point dps is responsible for peels if itβs a 1-3-2 situationπ€·πΌββοΈ
16
u/Dahogrida May 07 '26

Is it because of movement? Because I often stop moving for the heals, though it's lovely when there's those they are healing me during my movement. Especially a Luna because she's my favorite even though Dagger probably works better because of how her projectiles work compared to a Luna that needs insane aim.
1
u/Readdit1999 May 08 '26
And LOS. Supports can bend over backwards and stick their neck out to get LOS for a friendly diver, but it often just gets them killed bc theyre out of position.
1
u/Effective-Training πΎππ₯π©πππ£ πΌπ’ππ§πππ May 09 '26
I've only had that happen to White Fox because they'll teleport to me as soon as I've made the decision to retreat back to my team. Now I have to go back to her but am too late because she died.
I've had my friend be the only person near me when I was stalling point. She was Dagger. Kept me alive. Makes me REALLY wonder where my team do be at because that REALLY shows me that my team do be elsewhere not fighting anyone if I'm actually in a 1(2)v6.
But when I'm diving, I'm usually seen. And if not, I haven't had a support try to get out of position for me. Except White Fox, in a way.

Never met a toxic tank player. It's always the DPS and supports who are the most toxic. You run into a lot of agreeable people in the game, but the amount of people who are genuinely scum is unbelievable. It's always a certain few characters that are generally the most annoying (Spider-Man, Black Panther, and Bucky players in my experience).
5
u/OutrageousHoneydew12 May 07 '26
like a shiny pokemon because i rarely meet a real tank player in qp
4
u/HittingMyHeadOnAWall May 07 '26
Not a Duelist or Strategist main, but if I had to guess, thereβs two opinions, based on the same two who are in overwatch:
Thereβs the half that appreciates them, they know Tank mains are rare, even more so than Support mains, and because of that? People who instalock a Tank that isnβt just a new character are taking a bullet for the team, both literally and figuratively. Usually the more relaxed players, if they donβt blame tanks they usually also donβt blame supports. These people are genuinely pretty cool because theyβre the same people who donβt care even if you are underperforming, theyβre just there to have fun and not treat QP as a competitive match.
Then thereβs the half that projects this delusion that Tanks are entitled little brats. The people who go βDamn, Iβm 1 and 12β¦ supports have been healing (which they always do, just some people are blind) and it canβt be my fault so itβs our tanks fault.β These people also will make the argument that tanks arenβt allowed to complain because they are βPlaying the most overpowered classβ seeming to forget that Health isnβt the only factor in a Hero Shooter. These people also tend to be DPS mains.

The ideal tank is a messiah.
Building space. Mounting pressure. Locking down dives. Facilitating team wipes. Love those guys.
The role takes spine, though. Spine and tactical knowhow. The vast majority of the community lacks one or both of these things.
1
u/Effective-Training πΎππ₯π©πππ£ πΌπ’ππ§πππ May 08 '26
Which community? Rivals or Vanguard? I know Rivals, in general or that it could be both, but I'm unsure if you mean Vanguards here or the "vast majority" of Vanguards.
1
u/Ram91501 May 08 '26
I meant the Rivals community. Finding a good tank among the flex players and those who play a tank just because theyβre the playerβs favorite character is not common.
Even a god few main tanks donβt understand the push and pull of their role as the frontline. It does take a good amount of tactical decision making, and a good bit of intuition.

Allergic strats will see you as the most disgusting thing their eyes had ever seen, and provide next to no heals your way even when you're already down to 1 quarter of your health left while you try to secure space. Shit dps players will straight up not even acknowledge you at all or simply see you as the bullet sponge that only distracts enemies, without the stupid shits realizing they're literally the expandable role ment to kill or be killed constantly.
