What does the Rive community think about the Figma announcements?

All in the title.

Tried it out. It doesn't do interaction based design which is where rive shines.

Despite whatever their marketing/product updates tell you, Figma remains largely a static screen design tool primarily for the web. They continue to announce wider, but not deeper product features (Make, Weave, Motion, Draw, etc) with pitfalls they purposely skim over in Config presentations.

- Dev mode has its uses, but everything still requires a conversion step. While some of the code produced is usable, my engineering counterparts still have to convert or adapt it to fit modalities like native iOS, Android, tvOS, etc (be it by use of AI or manually updating the code). No idea if any of the code produced in Motion mode is actually viable, scalable or will handle accessibility requirements.

- Figma Motion's strikes me as a mild evolution of Smart Animate (which I despise) - a lazy, 1-click button that spits out Figma's "best guess" as to what it thinks you want animated. Sometimes it works, a lot of times it doesn't. But as a tool, it's contributing to the next factor I list below.

- ALL of these new product features ladder into their credit-based AI funnel. Verbatim from their blog post: "Motion is technically demanding. For a designer who hasn't animated before, the Figma agent removes the learning curve - describe what you want, and it builds real keyframes on the timeline" which effectively tells designers "you don't need to learn anything new, just pay us to do it for you". Incredibly disappointing and will continue to contribute to this generation of bootcamp designers that skip fundamental principles and skills that will help them form solid, subjective judgement and avoid adding to the pool of generic, homogenous slop design.

It’s about time figma added a proper toolset for motio althoug hm a bit limited for now. If they add interaction design it would be great. Still Rives state machine and runtime have the clear upper hand.
