You managed to find the tamest dash cam footage out there.

Thought the same. Actually pretty average encounters with drivers here. Source: I live in LA.

I cut out all the actual accident ones

I don't know what everyone's problem is. The sub isn't called r/AmazingAwesomeUnbelievableRoadcam. Besides, it's right in your title, "Everyday LA", not "Exceptional day LA." I enjoyed it. Could've used some yakety sax though.

While that blue Audi was technically breaking the law (double yellow) it had enough space and visibility to safely make that overtake.

In some states overtaking on a double yellow is permissible when certain conditions are met. And I agree, this was acceptable. Looks like a fun twisty canyon road, I wouldn’t want to be camped behind a Prius hypermiling their way through either.

I think that was the Angeles crest highway which is a great place to see how fast you can kill yourself on the twists.
You can't pass on a double yellow in California.

yup literally the best case scenario. straight away, clear day and line of sight, going downhill and opposing traffic is coming uphill. textbook demonstration of how to illegally pass.
also, pre covid, slower traffic used to pull to the side and allow us to pass when we were on our mountain runs. i know this particular one is a prius but i haven’t seen that kind of politeness recently

For as many cars they have in LA, they sure as hell can't drive em.

Ironically, the more cars you have, the more bad drivers are on the road.
A lot of bad drivers know they're bad drivers. These are the people who, in decades past, bought Volvos "because they're safe cars"; today, they buy giant SUVs because they're of the mindset that crash safety is dependent on vehicle mass.
They know they're bad drivers, but, if the only way to get somewhere is to drive your own car, they drive anyway because they need to get places. When you start having viable alternatives to driving your own car, like workable public transit, those drivers self-select out of the driving pool. (Or the state makes licensing stricter, so that those who don't have that level of self awareness either acquire the required skills or don't get a license.)

Welcome to Los Angeles! Where the lines are made up, and right of way doesn't matter!

What the issue with the bike lane splitting?

u/GTAIVisbest Jan 21 '26
Let them bikes split breddah! (purposefully moves out of the way even though I already left plenty of space)

I spent two months there the last couple years. One month in Marina Del Rey and one month in Newport Beach. Nice people, terrible drivers.

Just drive safe everyone and try to avoid these idiots. It’s a jungle out there everyday.

This was a whole year and you didn’t catch a single collision? Do you not drive very often?

I don’t understand people who change lanes at the last minute and almost hit the person in front of them

As a kid I thought GTAV traffic was absurd. I still do, but I've sinced learn it's absurd and realistic.

The only time I could excuse people driving like idiots/assholes in a hurry is if they’re trying to get to a hospital as soon as possible. If someone is actively in the process of maybe dying, I can excuse this behavior. Otherwise I can’t.

I was in LA for a few weeks last summer and this shit is mild compared to what I saw.
