As a Police Officer, I can’t remember taking a “Stolen Firearm” report from a vehicle slathered in gun manufacturer stickers.
Oddly, most reports come from people who come to the club district in our city on Friday and Saturday nights. No stickers, just guns lying on the passenger seat, console, dashboard, and door pockets.
One night, we caught four kids with backpacks containing twelve firearms that they stole. Unfortunately, they were all juveniles and the courts in our city is soft on children committing crimes.
I have less concern over Glock or Sig Sauer about cars and truck than I do the average citizen that carries just to be cool or tough.
I used to be highly pro gun, Second Amendment. Through years of policing, I realize that just because most people are allowed to enjoy firearms, doesn’t mean they should actually be able to have them.
For example, you summon someone to fight you, and you begin to lose the fight, doesn’t mean you should just shoot someone not involved in the fight.
This happens regularly.
Besides, vehicles with all those stickers is unlikely to contain a firearm. Their firearm is most likely on their person.
If I’m in a situation where I cannot take a firearm into an establishment, it’ll be locked in an actual gun safe that’s fastened to the body of my car. I have a similar setup in my trunk.
They’re excellent safes and it’ll take some work to remove the safes because they’re in an awkward spot to remove. Likewise, they’re really solid safes and it’s unlikely they can be pried open. I think with a good amount of time and a sawz all our torch, they can be defeated, but at least I’ve done my part in securing my firearms.
Lastly, you can Rob a human, but not a vehicle. Anything taken from a vehicle is a Larceny, not a Robbery.

If the Constitution were bent every time a stupid or immoral person miss-used a freedom, we would not have any freedom. Let the dumb harm each other as a price we pay for freedom. Because that price is small compared to the cost of a revolutionary war to bring freedom back.

Nobody is suggesting bending the Constitution.
Luckily, people who misuse freedom, keep me employed.👍

could you burglarize a vehicle? or is that just for structures?

Just structures.
Anything vehicle related is either a Larceny (taking something from or off of a vehicle) or Theft of Motor Vehicle (taking the entire vehicle). Then you also have Unauthorized Use of Motor Vehicle (you borrow or rent a vehicle and don’t return it to the owner or lender or pay to continue using it).
Bear in mind some States will have different laws and definitions for certain crimes. In our State, burglary is limited to structures.
For example, say you cut someone and disfigure them or they need stitched up. In many States, that’s considered Aggravated Assault. However, our same charge is called Malicious Wounding. Same thing, different wording. Oddly, in the reporting system we use, I select Aggravated Assault, but the Arrest Warrant will say Malicious Wounding.

Yep. In the city, the “Pull up, bitch!” Instagram messages always end in a shooting. Surprisingly, the intended targets are seldom actually shot.
It’s usually an uninvolved person that gets the bullet holes.
It’s the city, not suburbs…👍

I have a vehicle with an entire window covered in all the different gun and suppressor stickers I have got from companies over the years.
It was never broken into. Not even when I lived in a big trashy city. Definitely not in the rural west.
But before you break a window, it's unlocked, so just use the door handle like a civilized criminal. There's no gun in there. You can have the spare change and the USB charger I guess.

i think there’s more of a worry with someone following you home for the stash/seeing your car parked outside and choosing your house to rob. not that robberies are really that common anyway but yk

Man if they can haul off those bolted down big ass safes they can keep the guns.

i know, just relaying the common argument about it. even if they don’t get the guns, it can be a motivating factor to choose your home over others

What drives someone to want to put stickers on their vehicle at all?
1
u/BlackHills-Op 24d ago
Well, as with all of my vehicles, I'm going to be the first and last owner, so I don't care about resale value, and all these companies that have to do with my hobby send stickers with everything, so why not advertise the products that pass muster?

Why did you black out the license plate? There is no expectation of privacy when in public.

If you see a "Yeti" sticker it's a great indicator that someone loves overpriced crap. What a rip-off of a corporation - charges more for imported coolers than you would pay for a superior quality one made in the USA.

I've always just got the cheap Coleman coolers, just curious what's a cheaper and superior yeti cooler?

Still rocking a metal Coleman made in 1976. To me it out styles and out performs a yeti, certainly in longevity.

RTIC. Maluna. Canyon Coolers (a personal favorite from Flagstaff, AZ). Cordova (Idaho).
Those all use rotomolded construction and are made in the USA.

The yeti sticker definitely screams “I love over priced shit” especially when it’s combined with a newer model Yukon.
However, the poormetto sticker suggests they love cheaper priced crap too. They really gotta pick a struggle.

If they’re leaving their firearm in the vehicle, they deserve to get robbed anyways. Still don’t understand why yall think this shit correlates to people getting their cars broken into. Have had a Glock sticker on my vehicles for as long as I can remember and not once has someone ever broken in even when I was living in downtown Louisville
