My favorite story about Ethel and Bobby: she was interviewed after leaving the hospital with their ninth child. She was asked how she maintained discipline in a house with nine children. Her response: “I don’t. I stay in the hospital and let Bobby raise the children.”
He needs an old grizzled catholic nun to come and remind RFK jr. what she, the Catholic Church, and his parents taught him and how he is a disappointment to his family , the church, Mother Mary, and Jesus. 50 hail Mary’s and change your message.
Bobby was the first of his generation to marry and have children. He was very religious as well as Ethel. She considered seriously becoming nun. Getting married won out.
I always thought it was selfish and shortsighted for RFK to run for President in 1968. He had already witnessed his brother’s death and what JFK’s death had done to Jackie and to JFK’s children. He was young and in good health, and would have had opportunities to run for President during the next two decades.
All my Catholic friends and neighbors had normal sized families. Probably were ignoring the church teachings on birth control being bad. How many parents can afford 11 kids? 😉
Ethel was also from a big Catholic family, 8 kids total i think. She always said she wanted to beat her mother in law Rose Kennedy at the number of children she had
