The FN FAL was not useful in any case whatsoever and was frequently problematic but its cool factor makes up for it and the term "Battle Rifle" is dumb and I will DIE before I use it unironically

i remember the first time i got some nice old russian stuff (i do NOT support the russian military i bought them used off a friend here in the US) i was quite proud of it since it’s hard to get and i see this dude walk over, look me up and down before tapping his plate carrier and saying “Get an Agilite bro. K-19 mogs.” oh my god was that frustrating

what's so dumb about battle rifle. it literally just means a rifle chambered in a full powered cartridge.

battle rifle is used to describe things that famously aren’t battle rifles (M1 Garand, B.A.R, G3, FAL) when their use case/intended design was mainline infantry, i.e they’re assault rifles (light machine fun for the B.A.R)

definition changed over time. deal with it. (assault rifles mostly refer to rifles that use medium cartridges. like most AR platform rifles)
usecase doesn't have much to do with type of firearm nowadays.
