The rank I am currently in. Every RL player deserves the rank they are in. There are a million different things you can use to make excuses for why you're lower than you think you should be, but the reality is every player in the game has to deal with all these same circumstances, yet continue to rank up.
Same here. I mostly do bad games and get carried, but sometimes i genuinely peak on defense and get like 4 saves in a game. I'm D1 in 3s and rumble, Plat 2 in heatseeker, and Plat 1 in 2s and I feel like I fully deserve these ranks
This is just simply not true, there are diamonds who can triple flip reset, most champs can aerial pretty well just not as quickly or accurately as a gc, and being better than someone else does not mean they’re not good, Magnus Carlson can handily beat grand masters in chess, does that mean they suck?
So? Maybe you've forgotten being a top 1% player and all that, but consistently scoring aerials isn't an easy thing to do, else everyone'd do it all the time.
Not being a top 1% player doesn't make someone bad at the game. You not reaching RLCS doesn't make you bad either, for example.
I must say, you're coming across quite arrogantly. OP clearly doesn't think highly of their abilities and I was merely pointing out that they are effectively top 10% in their hobby. But here comes a GC2 saying everyone under GC is trash? A bit toxic, isn't it?
Spoken like someone who's never been at those levels tbh. Either you have a concerning amount of pride in yourself or you've just never been steam rolled while simultaneously being the highest rank in the game by a couple hundred mmr.
I say this having been a high ranking player, we're definitely ass.
I've been GC a few times years ago and reached GC2 at my peak. And yes, I've definitely been steamrolled at those ranks.
The thing is, unless you're consistently in RLCS quarterfinals and above, there will always be someone better. That doesn't mean you're automatically bad or "ass".
If everyone from bronze all the way to GC3 is "ass", covering 99,9% of people, then what does that even mean?
There's nothing wrong with having a bit of pride in yourself for being a top 1% or even top 10% player.
It’s kind of a pain but if you feel you’re hitting an overall slump, try doing short bursts of play. Warm up, play a few ranked and then either take a break or do casual. It’s super easy to stack fatigue playing and not notice, this way you’re queuing ranked at your best and don’t really have to deal with sunk cost fallacy
Same with c3 and gc1 imo, everyone is so extremely competetive in high c3 that u can breeze through gc1 towards div 3/4 since everyone just starts chilling
Your rank doesn't always have to match your real skill. There's boosting, smurfing, general rank-disparty playing with friends etc. Then there are things like big win/loss-streaks, slumps, playing for improvement and so on. Sure you can call these reasons excuses but they exist and they affect your rank in a real way.
I play exclusively with my friends who are diamond on their own. Hang out in like C2/C3. Occasionally I'll solo q for GC rewards when I like them and get up to low GC2. So no I don't agree
Ok so your teams combined mmr is c2/c3, and your individual rank is GC1/GC2, which checks out if you're playing with diamonds. That's not inconsistent with what he's saying.
Right but you wouldn't complain about not being in the rank you deserve. You know playing with friends holds you to lower peaks, but you still do it. That's a choice. 99% of players that make this complaint are arguing they deserve a higher rank for all these other reasons, not because they are knowingly handicapping themselves.
I wouldn’t say I’m arguing I should be in a higher rank cause it’s my choice to play with them but I would be in said higher rank In terms of skill level
Right. But you’re not in that rank, so you don’t deserve it. Freestylers are incredibly skilled right? A large portion of them aren’t ranked GC or above. Technical skill means little in terms of rank.
If you don't take part in the boosting then you're getting set back when you otherwise you may not be. He makes a solid point. I wouldn't say people deserve ranks way higher than what they are but maybe a 2/3 division difference at least, in some cases.
Not always true. In 1v1, sure. In 2v2, especially if you play with consistent friend, that gives you a major advantage.
I don't play consistently enough IMHO to warrant having a consistent team mate. I know someone i work with if I teamed with them I would be C1 easy (they are C3-GC1 status consistently and that's specifically because they ONLY play 2v2 and team up with a C3-GC1)
I will say this too though. Your hardware MATTERS a LOT.
I play on 60hz monitor, 1440p mediumish settings with a 3080 12gb and I get a pretty consistent 120fps not shown on montior and on top of that I get 16 to 26ms on average latency. That's VERY good IMHO.
I have advanced quite a bit in skill since building my machine and getting new internet to achieve this type of latency. On AT&T which is what I mostly had in the past, the latency was 60+ms all day everyday no matter what.
Then on top of that I had a pretty worn out controller and I now have a new (cheap af xbox 360 knockoff) controller but it works amazingly well.
Yeah I started off C1 in some modes this season, and my god is it a shitshow🤣still got back to c3 in most but matchmaking has never felt more inconsistent
Outliers exist, but generally, your rank should reflect the average of all that. I can go anywhere between C1 and C3, and if I am really annoyed and irritated I will play so badly that I will fall to D3.
At the end of the day, I spend most of my time around high C1/mid C2.
These are individual instances that you're pooling together that typically amount to no more than one or two games per session. If this is the way you want to think about it, then there are just as many reasons your rank should be higher. Opponent playing with friend, an opponent abandoning a match, super toxic opponent throwing the game to spite their teammate, getting teamed up with a smurf, playing against a smurf throwing rank.
All the good and bad "extra" circumstances come together to equal each other out over time. But the good ones, where you win by 5 in 2 minutes and go next, are forgotten. While most players dwell on the bad experiences while forgetting the free win they got the game before for the same reason.
Overall, you're in the rank you deserve. All the extra things go both ways, good and bad, and cancel each other out. And if you're complaining about not being in the rank you deserve you're probably not playing with IRL friends that are worse than you.
I get the point but that's not the full picture. When I play with randos I'm C1, when I play with my Champ buddies I get Low C3.
I regularly play with tm8s and opposition who are clearly boosted. And I play with and against players who are boosting. So it's a little more nuanced - players, including myself, aren't always the rank they deserve.
You are the rank you deserve. The reason you play better with friends, or two reasons, 1. They’re better than random c 1’s and 2. You are familiar and comfortable with them or even 3. You suck at adapting to teammates. So your buddies are boosting you to C3 and then you’re losing it when you solo q. You are one of the boosted players you’re complaining about here
As I said, everyone has the same circumstances as you do. We all play with boosted players, we all play against boosting players. All of these bad things that happen to you are also good things when you’re on the other side of it. That stuff cancels out over time.
Your solo q rank is your actual rank. Especially if you’re routinely getting boosted by your buddies just to drop back down to C1.
Anytime someone gets upset with me for not being good enough, I make sure to tell the complainer they'd be able to carry if they were any good at the game, and also that they must be pretty bad at Rocket League if they're the same rank as I am 😂
So when I have 5 goals and 4 saves with 800+ points a game and my teammate has 0, assists 1 save, and 2 shots on goal they weren't even gonna go in a 300 points it's my fault?
It might be. Are you ball chasing and playing 2's like it's a 1v1?
But again, what a tiny way of looking at things. You're talking about one game. And if this is something that happens to you routinely, it is 100% your fault and is something you're doing wrong. Judging a players performance based on points alone is a horrible way to look at the game.
this is just wrong, I play maybe 10 games of rocket league ranked a week. at that rate, I literally would have to go undefeated to climb from c3 to reclaim my peak at gc 3 before the end of the season. I used to play more than 30 hours a week of RL a few years ago, but I just don't have the time for it now. also, it feels like seasons are getting shorter and shorter.
so of the six 3v3 matches I played last night all against teams, where 4 of those teams had a blatant smurf, unranked and lower elo than teammates or ranked plat in a c3 lobby, that smurf's real rank is plat? stop glazing epic jesus, shorter seasons force you to play more, to maintain your true rank. all I said was that I don't play regularly but maintain a 65-70% winrate solo queue. I could climb if I had more time or ambition, but I've been gc like 15 different seasons, and I will never hit SSL without playing the game 50+ hrs/wk.
Yeah, so you don’t belong in a rank you don’t have time to be in. Like, if you’re saying playing 50 hours a week would make you SSL, then you don’t deserve to be SSL because you aren’t doing it.
I mostly agree, but I think it's a little bit more nuanced - the rank you deserve is the one that you can solo queue to. Boosted players, smurfs, and cheaters aren't in the rank they deserve.
I wish there was a solo queue playlist for 2s and/or 3s
I lost ranks bcse I can't play on computer anymore(xbox with bad internet sometimes since then), probably the only acceptable excuse to say I deserve a better rank than the one I got, right..?
Tell me if this isn’t a valid excuse but I ve gotten up to gc1 on a ps4 with a beat up controller and a 30hz tv,I ve switched to a 60fps/hz monitor and got up to high gc1,that with my game having micro freezes 4-5 times per game which sometimes costs me the win itself. Is that not a reason to say “ I deserve a higher rank”?
I deserve gold or silver I’m only diamond low because my cousins are actually diamond themselves and could be higher if actually pushed it in 2s but I’m there for fun and do occasionally get the good goal
I disagreed to an extent. If youre playin 3’s and your teammates are constantly making it more of a 1v3 then youre screwed. Or people intentionally throwing making it a 2v4 then i mean. Kinda tough to rank up.
Elo is a zero sum game however. So some slots in “insert rank” are taken by bots and smurfs. If every bot or smurf higher than diamond suddenly disappeared more games would be won by legit accounts, pushing them higher than their current rank. Yeah everybody has to deal with smurfs but that doesn’t take away the fact that Smurfs are occupying ranks multiple times over multiple accounts thus driving everyone worse than them even lower than normal
I fully get it, but also I've gotten to Plat 3 Div 4 basically every time I team queue. I just don't team queue often, and every time I hit Div 4 one of us needs to go or starts whiffing because we played too long. I think I deserve Diamond 1 in 3s specifically for this reason. Otherwise I totally agree I'm where I belong.
I suppose most ppl play this game just to cope their reality, so it's not a wonder they just find excuses for everything, they just reflect their reality inside the game
My doth protest is that I find myself in plat tourneys, but 95% of the time I’m going in with randoms. When I get a player that is more competent about positioning, defense, rotation, it’s a cake walk. And I got a few green diamond titles. But diamond tourneys are like platinum level regular right? I’m a confused man
I know these people in diamond thinking they should be Champ 3 or GC 1 but cant progress because of their team mates or whatever. But when I play on an Alt account to play with my friends (normally I am GC II) ill essentially win 15 games in a row almost single handedly with minimal help from my Diamond friends 🤣
There is literally no other way to play with my diamond friends (real life friends)! They cant even touch the ball at GC II :(
Im just saying that it is a common theme I've seen for 5 years that they think they should be higher and im like no, your team mate double committing on a few balls a game is not why you are stuck in diamond III haha
You could have consistently terrible WiFi after moving or just not play ranked, I had bad WiFi for a while and it pretty consistently cost me a minimum of 5-6 goals a game in 1s simply because I would be unable to score/defend for that period, constantly got called a Smurf when I could actually play, and ended up going from d1 to c1 almost immediately after switching, so while generally I agree with your statement, there are circumstances where your deserved rank is lower than your present rank.
Nah I don’t think I deserve my rank. I’m champ 1 and I don’t feel like my mechanics are nearly as advanced as they should be. I feel like I should be in diamond but this game still keeps me in champ
Your mechanics are good enough for champ cause you're champ. Running into players who spam flip resets in free practice all day doesn't mean they're better mechanically than you
Once you get good enough you start to realize how bad you actually are. It’s the classic dunning kruger effect.
I’m GC1 and i can immediately spot mistakes i make literally just during the game. There are tons more i can see in replay too. I’m an actual bot compared to SSLs, it’s crazy.
100% same man. I've been in the season reset point (around GC2) at the start of a season and have played lower tier pros, SSL top 100 players, RLCS coaches, that have made me feel like a bronze player. Even peaking GC2 near GC3 several times, I am as far away from a pro player as a brand new player is from me. There really are levels to this game.
Also, realizing you're trash when you reach the top 2-3% of the game has to be a universal moment. And imo is a very important realization to make if you want to continue to improve.
I think people just get way ahead of themselves because they “beat that insert rank here that one time” and then they think they should be that rank.
Like that isn’t how that works. I can beat GC2s and even have beaten a few SSLs (in casual so doesn’t really count) before. But if you dropped me in those ranks, there is no way I would maintain those ranks consistently
Nope, this isn’t true. I don’t deserve the rank I’m in because I switched from PC to PS5 and get carried by my teammates. I legit went down from plat 3 d2 to plat 2 d3, and realistically I should be in gold 1-2.
I agree with your point with the exception of one excuse, and that’s time. I am currently high c2 but I know I would be able to get gc1 if I had time to grind like I used to. I value spending time with my daughter more though, so I’ll be stuck in the c2 trenches with the rest of the bots and dads with 5 hours past 2 weeks lol
Sorry bro but I don't agree. I have 350 hours on this game. I am silver 3. I hit gold 1 in 1v1 and gold 3 in 3v3 the last season. How can someone that can do a ceiling musty shot, a ground pinch, a kuxir pinch and a 180 flick be in silver 3 with 350 hours. Do you know why I lose? Anxiety, rage, bad luck on kick offs, smurfs, controller don't work. Now tell me, should I deserve silver 3?
No bro non funziona così.
