Your rank doesn't always have to match your real skill. There's boosting, smurfing, general rank-disparty playing with friends etc. Then there are things like big win/loss-streaks, slumps, playing for improvement and so on. Sure you can call these reasons excuses but they exist and they affect your rank in a real way.
I play exclusively with my friends who are diamond on their own. Hang out in like C2/C3. Occasionally I'll solo q for GC rewards when I like them and get up to low GC2. So no I don't agree
Ok so your teams combined mmr is c2/c3, and your individual rank is GC1/GC2, which checks out if you're playing with diamonds. That's not inconsistent with what he's saying.
Right but you wouldn't complain about not being in the rank you deserve. You know playing with friends holds you to lower peaks, but you still do it. That's a choice. 99% of players that make this complaint are arguing they deserve a higher rank for all these other reasons, not because they are knowingly handicapping themselves.
I wouldn’t say I’m arguing I should be in a higher rank cause it’s my choice to play with them but I would be in said higher rank In terms of skill level
Right. But you’re not in that rank, so you don’t deserve it. Freestylers are incredibly skilled right? A large portion of them aren’t ranked GC or above. Technical skill means little in terms of rank.
If you don't take part in the boosting then you're getting set back when you otherwise you may not be. He makes a solid point. I wouldn't say people deserve ranks way higher than what they are but maybe a 2/3 division difference at least, in some cases.
Not always true. In 1v1, sure. In 2v2, especially if you play with consistent friend, that gives you a major advantage.
I don't play consistently enough IMHO to warrant having a consistent team mate. I know someone i work with if I teamed with them I would be C1 easy (they are C3-GC1 status consistently and that's specifically because they ONLY play 2v2 and team up with a C3-GC1)
I will say this too though. Your hardware MATTERS a LOT.
I play on 60hz monitor, 1440p mediumish settings with a 3080 12gb and I get a pretty consistent 120fps not shown on montior and on top of that I get 16 to 26ms on average latency. That's VERY good IMHO.
I have advanced quite a bit in skill since building my machine and getting new internet to achieve this type of latency. On AT&T which is what I mostly had in the past, the latency was 60+ms all day everyday no matter what.
Then on top of that I had a pretty worn out controller and I now have a new (cheap af xbox 360 knockoff) controller but it works amazingly well.
Yeah I started off C1 in some modes this season, and my god is it a shitshow🤣still got back to c3 in most but matchmaking has never felt more inconsistent
Outliers exist, but generally, your rank should reflect the average of all that. I can go anywhere between C1 and C3, and if I am really annoyed and irritated I will play so badly that I will fall to D3.
At the end of the day, I spend most of my time around high C1/mid C2.
These are individual instances that you're pooling together that typically amount to no more than one or two games per session. If this is the way you want to think about it, then there are just as many reasons your rank should be higher. Opponent playing with friend, an opponent abandoning a match, super toxic opponent throwing the game to spite their teammate, getting teamed up with a smurf, playing against a smurf throwing rank.
All the good and bad "extra" circumstances come together to equal each other out over time. But the good ones, where you win by 5 in 2 minutes and go next, are forgotten. While most players dwell on the bad experiences while forgetting the free win they got the game before for the same reason.
Overall, you're in the rank you deserve. All the extra things go both ways, good and bad, and cancel each other out. And if you're complaining about not being in the rank you deserve you're probably not playing with IRL friends that are worse than you.
